“FDR Resort and Spa #1”
Reviewed 3 May 2012

My husband and I and my mom and our 6 year old daughter stayed at the FDR Resort and Spa in Runaway Bay, Jamaica at the end of April. Our experience there was awesome! Upon arriving at FDR you are greeted by friendly staff. Shout out to Conrad, Kimberley, Daicia and Sophine. You are all awesome people! Our suite had magnificent views of the ocean. We loved everything about the Resort. The food was excellent! The servers were very friendly. Shout out to Andre, Chrissy, Sabrina, Roberta. You know how to take care of everyone and make us all feel special. Our daughter loved the pool, she was in it everyday. The big pool and the kiddie pool. Our nanny, Shanique, was the best. Our daughter was glued to her. She loved her so much! They did everything together. We can't forget Harry! Harry has been at the Resort for years. He took us for a ride on the glass bottom boat. The sea was so beautiful! So clean and blue. We won't forget you guys! We'll be back someday!

Getting ready for another wonderful vacation at FDR this will be our 10th trip there, my granddaughters are looking forward to July. We can never get them to leave. The staff knows their names the nanny knows what they like to eat and do. This year we are planning on going to Dolphin Cove again, they have never been to Dunns River what is also on our list.
I cannot praise the staff at FDR they are all super people.
See you soon.

We had been to Pebbles twice and finally decided to return to Jamaica and try FDR this time. We had a wonderful time. Our family (5yr old and 8 yr old) along with another family with 4 and 3 year old stayed from April 1-8. The combination of family time and adult time was perfect! There really is no other resort where you can have this balance!

We enjoyed pool time with the kids every day as well as a glass bottom boat with the kids, flying kites that the kids made with their nannies in the kids club, and playing some tennis. We even joined in on beach goat races and crab races with the kids.

But we also got some important adult only time too where we were able to work out each day. Yoga and Spin Class as well a a morning bike tour were the highlights for us! Asha is a great fitness coordinator.

Adult only restaurants were very good. We could always find something we liked on the menu. We were lucky to get the same waiter, Aaron, every night at the adult restaurant. He was great!

A massage and facial out on the pier with the water and breeze was perfect.

The entertainment crew worked very hard to keep things going day and night. We joined in but never really felt pressured. Tamika was fun and made sure we were always having a good time!

Craig, Kameron, and Shane made just sitting at the bar in the evening fun and by mid-week they had drinks waiting for us as we walked up!

We usually had lunch at the grill each day. It can get busy at 12:30 and you have a bit of a wait but Bosco on the grill worked very hard to keep up with all the orders!

The real highlight of the entire trip was, of course, our nanny! Celine was wonderful! My kids fell in love with her immediately! My daughter cried when she had to leave her! She really did whatever it took to make sure our entire family, as well as the other family we were traveling with, had everything we needed the entire week! These nannies are the heart and soul of this resort! Celine stayed every night we were there so we could enjoy dinner alone or with her help when we did the family buffets! She felt like family by the time we left! We can't say enough great things about her and Saneek, our friend's nanny! The two nannies worked together as team helping with all 4 kids whenever all week long! They made our vacation!

We are not a fussy family who needs 4 star accommodations so FDR was really a great vacation for us! We know our kids are getting old so we are going to try and take full advantage of least one more of these trips while we can! I would not hesitate to recommend FDR to anyone with young children looking for a vacation where everyone can relax a bit and have fun!

We just got back from our 3rd trip to FDR, and it was as amazing as ever. We have a 6 year old and twin 3 year olds, and this is the only way we can get a really relaxing and fun vacation. Our nanny (the same one for 3 years in a row) is fantastic with the kids - keeps them entertained and happy. And the kids have a blast, love doing their own thing and then meeting up with us for swimming and meals.

This is definitely not a 4-star hotel, but it is a relaxed setting with wonderful staff and completely child and family friendly. The food is good - not the best, but definitely better than some other all-inclusive hotels we have stayed at. They understand that kids need food choices - and need them all day long - and are set up for that (again, unlike some other resorts where you can't really get food other than mealtimes). The pools are fine, and the beach is sort of small, but the experience of being able to have a real vacation makes FDR the greatest place on earth.

This was our 2nd visit to FDR and once again it was excellent! This time we brought the grandparent and we all had the best time! The room was spacious, bright, comfortable, and easily accommodated 4 adults and 2 kids. Not to mention we had an amazing view of gardens and ocean. The staff is so incredible! They work hard to make sure you have all you need in order to have a perfect vacation. They wait on you all day and accommodate your needs. For instance, our son is a very picky eater and the gentleman working the grill was happy to make him fresh chicken nuggets just about every day we were there. There are activities for all! The adults can take exercise classes, play games, music, trivia, karaoke, dance and more. We love winning bottles of yummy Jamaica Rum! The kids do tye-dye, have tennis lessons, swim-swim-swim, enjoy games, contests, shows, goat racing and more. This time we took advantage of the spa and we enjoyed a very peaceful couples massage. Nothing like having a great massage while listening to waves crashing and feeling a light wind. Incredible! The food is good. We liked both adult restaurants, had a great ime at the beach bash and indulged in scrumptious desserts. We went snorkeling, the kids loved the waterslide and the grandparents enjoyed lounging by the pool. The nanny, Tashawna, was fabulous. She was a big part of why our vacation was so wonderful! Our kids loved her! They wanted to spend as much time with her as possible so she would watch them at night as well. They couldn't wait for her to pick them up for dinner. We can't stop bragging about our favorite vacation place: FDR. We are already planning a trip back next Spring. When we left we felt as if we were leaving family! Families especially with young kids must go to FDR - the entire family has an unforgettable vacation.

Room Tip: We had a tour of rooms and we really liked the one story 2 bedroom oceanfront rooms. These have been...

Many reviews have been written here about trips to FDR with small children and about the nannies at the resort. Here is a review with a different perspective because the seven children that we traveled with were older.

We spent a week at FDR from March 23 to March 31, 2012. Our traveling group consisted of eleven adults (parents and grandparents and one uncle) and seven children ranging in age from eleven to sixteen. Everyone had a wonderful time.

RESORT-
This was my first vacation at FDR. The resort is small with a small beach front. We had a two bedroom suite. The suite had a kitchen w/refrigerate, a dining room with six chairs and table and a living room along with the two bedrooms. There was a balcony off the living room. The suite had a generous amount of room for four adults and two children. Our suite looked recently decorated and the furnishings were in great shape. Some of the other suites looked a little more worn than ours.

BEACH-
On the property at FDR the beach is very small but, never seemed to be extremely crowded. If you walk a very short distance to the end of the FDR property, you walk onto a fantastic, long and wide beach. If you like long beach walks, that is easy to do while staying at FDR.

SNORKELING-
Right off shore at FDR is some fun snorkeling. Twice each day a boat takes you out to a reef a few minutes away. All you have to do is show up at the dock at the appointed time and get on the boat. This was a plus for us on this vacation. Twice each day this boat went out as a glass bottom boat. That was another fun inclusion to our vacation.

AMIMATION TEAM-
There seemed to be something going on for the guests of FDR to get involved in all day long. There was no pressure to participate but, the fun was there for you if you wanted to join in. The many daily events were for both adults and children. Most games had prizes for children and for adults.

Along with the games on the resort some days there were off resort trips for the teens to take with the animation team. Each day the resort had a bike ride that went into the surrounding areas of Jamaica near FDR.

FDR has a teen center with a coordinator. I was very impressed with the teen center. There were pool tables as well as other table games and computers. All of this was in a very large open air area with a gorgeous Caribbean view. Each night the coordinator had a special reserved table for the teens that wanted to eat dinner together.

FOOD-
Here is the one and only problem that this resort seems to have. I felt that the quality of the food was not the best. I was amazed at the poor quality of SOME of the food items considering that FDR is not an inexpensive place. The menus which changed each night were still redundant. Chicken with a sauce is chicken with a sauce no matter how much you change the sauce. Roasted pork is roasted pork no matter what you name it.............and on and on and on.

BAR-
The bar was well staffed so, you never waited for a drink. The alcohol was a nice variety and consisted of Appleton, Grey Goose, Bombay Safire, Tanquerey, Jack Daniels as well as many other liquors. The one problem here at the bar was that when the bar ran out of a certain kind of alcohol, it sometimes took a few days to get the alcohol stocked again.

The area where the bar was located had a wonderful view of the ocean as well as sunsets over the ocean. It was open air but shaded from the sun at all times of the day.

STAFF-
I have nothing but praise for the staff at FDR. Everyone that I encountered at this small resort was friendly, well trained and seemed happy. They were all great at what they did.

To me there are three kinds of vacations. When you get home from the first kind of vacation, even though you enjoyed yourself, you are looking for where you will vacation next. The second is a vacation where you say that "someday" you may return to that resort. The kind of vacation that I had at FDR made me feel as though I can't wait to get back to FDR.
