“We are going back”
Reviewed 7 May 2014

We stayed for 3 weeks in January.
The staff are amazing. They all work very hard. Management even took time out to talk to the guests.
The food is great ( I never once had to resort to the pizza bar. The choice and quality were so good).
Local brand drinks but mostly ok, Red Stripe is a lot better from bottles than on draft.
The huts are good. some are dated but they are upgrading them all.
The gardens are well kept and relaxing just to sit in.
Noise ! We heard dogs barking but we hear that at home too. One morning we woke to the sound of school children singing which was amazing.
TRIPS.
Blue mountain bike ride is a must.
Its very relaxing just cruising down the mountain. You get the chance to buy coffee/pepper. We also called at a school.

9 Mile ( Bob Marleys birth place).
Worth a visit if you like the music, just be careful what you buy !!! We paid extra to visit a "plantation". This was just some plants in someones back garden.

Ocho Rios.
We took a taxi that we arranged from just beyond the gate. Its a good place to shop, haggle hard though. We ate in Mama Marleys, food was great priced well.

As the title says we will be going back to the Royal Decameron. We hope this will be for our wedding.

To sum up.
Its small but a fantastic place don't let the bad reviews put you off. Don't forget to have a walk round Salem. Go into the local shops they are a lot cheaper than the hotel one.
"Up grades" were offered to us, we didn't take it up.

Just returned from an amazing trip here.
The staff are amazing, the rooms clean, spacious and comfy. The food is fine and varied, there is always something that you can fancy and the restaurants are good, overall quality of the food is excellent for an all inclusive hotel. The beaches are brill and always being cleaned. The pools are ok, but to be fair we had a beach front bungalow so tended to just use the beach. There are plenty of sunbeds on the beaches so no problem finding somewhere, the hotel is spotlessly clean, the bars are great with good choice of drinks. The entertainment at night is generally good (compared to other similar hotel entertainment) and the resident team do a good job each evening. There is plenty of day time activity if you want to take part. I know I mentioned it earlier but the staff really are superb and don't ask for tips, when you consider the work they put in for the salary they get you can feel a little guilty so we did tend to tip them but waited until the last few days then gave them a decent amount, we were curious if we would get a 'reduced service' if we didn't tip daily but can honestly say that we didn't and all they wanted to do is ensure you were happy.
What wasn't so good, well nothing to do with the hotel but there were a lot of groups of French teenagers who were stoned and drunk and asking everyone for cigarettes and to get them an alcoholic drink. No problem with this as we were all that age once, but we found that the only time we ever saw them with their parents was arriving and leaving so it would have been good to see them keeping a bit of an eye on them whilst they are there
If there is anything missing its a little more drawer space in the bungalows (there was only 1 drawer) and also as there are a number of bays it would be good to make one of them adult only, there is an adult only pool so this doesn't appear unreasonable and would provide somewhere quiet to chill for the day.
Overall we rate this as one of the best holidays we have ever had, this is in comparison to Thompson Sensatori hotels in Egypt, 5* in Gran Canaria and Cuba and countless Greek and Spanish vacations
We will definitely be going back and are already counting the days
Don't be put of by what some people write, although everyone bases their review on their own experience we can honestly say that this is an amazing place and if you go to enjoy yourself you definitely will
Hope the review is helpful

Room Tip: We had a beach front bungalow and this was great, try to avoid those near the main bar and stage if...

my husband and I went back to Jamaica for my birthday. We have been to Jamaica before but not to the Decameron. We read the reviews and had mixed feelings about it but took the chance and booked. When we arrived we fell in love with it straight away. It was not what we expected at all. The room was room 123 and was a little cottage which was three away from the beach and beach bar. We had for beaches. One of them had a swing bar where you could sit and swing all day. So relaxing. Staff are so friendly but we feel all Jamaicans are. I would recommend the Bob Marley trip, that is a must. Also the jeap safari and Dunes River. I would defo recommend this hotel to anyone and if anyone is thinking of going here and have any questions just drop me a question and i will answer it for you. I would not be put of by any reviews.

Room Tip: ask for the cottages. Dont go to the Court yard as you are not local to the hotel . The court yards...

We have just returned from a two week stay at the Royal Decameron on 24/04/2014. What a great holiday we have had. We are a family with two children 15 & 7 and had a great time. The rooms were basic but very clean and large. The hotel food was very good with a great choice for all tastes and for the children. The staff at the resort were the best I have ever encountered. Everyone was very friendly and went the extra steps to make sure your holiday went well. Location of the hotel was great for trips to the Dunn's river falls and the dolphins only 20 mins away. We stayed in a garden room that was on the beach.

Room Tip: Garden room 22 or 23 they are on the beach

Okay let me start with the basics, firstly reading some reviews I think that either people went to a different hotel or they just expect too much!! my 18 year old son has a British born Jamaican father so I wanted to take him to see his heritage. I chose this hotel because it was a great price. I was in the brand new rooms near the adult pool absolutely great, yes there was noise from the locals, yes dogs barked from time to time so what??? this doesn't happen at home??? of course it does. We slept just fine! There was a large French contingency there and that contract finishes next month, personally I think this will be good for staff morale as they are treated appallingly by them. Okay let me say what I found to be the bad points, adding that it did not really spoil our overall experience, I found the french to be rude, unsmiling with unruly children and no consideration for anyone but themselves, but the contract will finish soon. The main pool entertainment needs to be turned down during the day because it is a little intrusive. The food on the whole was excellent sometimes different than you would eat at home but we are in the Caribbean right??? The complex is extremely well kept there were painters and gardeners everywhere during my two week stay. There were land crabs , geckos , hummingbirds and other birds around the complex and at night the tree frogs beeped along with the crickets humming, just beautiful!! the staff work their butts off for pretty low pay too and it is annoying to see them being treated with indifference some people need to learn some manners!! Why do you need a fridge in your room, or tea and coffee facilities it is all inclusive bring your own if it bothers you that much! Was not a problem for me or my son.
Management need to lay off the staff a little walking around constantly checking up on them with clipboards, they are also there to provide a service to the guests but are frequently checked up on which is quite uncomfortable to see. WIFI is not free and is 5USD per hour which was an added expense if you used it , most all inclusive or less have free WIFI. That said this hotel has fantastic staff and the entertainment if a little cheesy was pretty good. Trips that people are moaning about , prices etc I found them reasonable and good value. We swam a Dolphin Cove with misty the dolphin what an experience!! Bob Marley's house well worth the trip to Nine Mile loved it!!! Dunns River another must . Runaway Bay is reasonably safe and we did visit the British Bulldog bar across the road and the local shops. the residents are friendly and we had no problems at all. If you don't like being approached to buy then do not go on a shopping trip as this is what happens in Jamaica they too have a living to earn, so don't go if you are going to whine about it !!! treat the Jamaicans with respect drop the odd dollar as a tip for good service now and then the staff deserve it here they are fabulous!! Will see you all soon Royal Decameron best holiday EVER !!!! Love Jamaica and love the Jamaicans. See you all soon, thank you everyone, Debs and Tyler X

Room Tip: Rooms near the main pool could be noisy if you want to go to bed early !

Just returned after a 3 week visit with my daughter and grand children for the 4th time. Can't recommend Royal Decameron highly enough. All the staff are so friendly and helpful, when Fitzroy asked if there was anything that could be done to make our holiday better we replied it would be perfect if we had mangos at the next meal he presented us with them. The same service is received by all the staff. The food is excellent with a good choice, the resort is always spotless and the entertainment crew are fantastic at encouraging you to join in. My granddaughter celebrated her 16th birthday and the fuss made of her relly made it memorable. Thank you to all the staff will certainly be visiting again.
