My husband and I vacationed here in the beginning of June. We have been to Jamaica two times before at a different resort. We would not return to Bahia Principe. All of the buildings (with the exception of our room) were so hot. You could not enjoy your meals because you have sweat dripping down your back and face. This is not comfortable for their guests and unfair to their employees. We went one afternoon to get jerk chicken (which was good) the poor guy who was cutting up the chicken did not even have a fan. It had to be over 100 degrees with no breeze. The food in the restaurants was fair to good not excellent. The Don Pablo restaurant was good and the Japanese restaurant was also good. The first night we ate at the Japanese restaurant it had to be 90 degrees so we ate quick and got out. We were told that the air conditioner was broken.
The staff is friendly but I would not say they went out of their way for us. One afternoon we ordered a pot of coffee from room service. I told them that we need cups also (we had a pot delivered in the morning and it was very good). When we answered the door they where standing there with bags of coffee and no cups. I explained that we wanted a pot of coffee. A little while later they returned with two cups of coffee that were the consistency of mud. I guess it was left over from the morning. How hard is it to make a fresh pot of coffee?
Everything in their stores is over priced. We went to the sports bar one night to watch a hockey game. We were drinking beer and we wanted a snack (they had no snacks on the bar) so I went over to one of the stores that had snacks and picked up a bag of lays potato chips. The girl said $7. I asked her how much the smaller bag was (single serving size) and she said $3. I can see raising the prices a little but it is horrible how they gouge you. They only serve Red Stripe beer. We found you could go to the sports bar and they have a few other choices, but you have to pay for them. But it was reasonably priced.
The office arranges when and where you will dine. They where not able to make our requested changes for different restaurants and times.
The beach was just okay. The Don Pablo section is sectioned off and no children are allowed within the ropes however there are screaming children in the water. I love children but when I am on vacation without my own I do not want to hear other children screaming.
The pool was really nice.
When we checked out our bill had drinks charged to it from the sports bar (which were ours) and drinks from the disco which where not ours. The girls at the front desk had to speak with a manager before they could take the charges off. The manager was no where to be found so I wound up standing there for about a half hour. Not the way to treat your guests.
We came to this resort because of the reviews we read. After experiencing it for ourselves we would not go back.
