“Great Location!!”
Reviewed 31 October 2013

I researched my trip to PR for months; I was looking for a hotel located right in the heart of Old San Juan affordably priced without sacrificing comfort. We were very happy with our stay at the hotel, we stayed in room 2I it was clean & since it’s located to the back of the hotel it remained quiet even with the construction going on outside. The breakfast was delicious and guests receive 20% off their bill. There is no elevator so if you are unable to walk up stairs I would suggest you stay on a lower floor, but do attempt to climb to the top at least once to enjoy the rooftop view. The only thing that bugged me was the window in our room that looked out to the hallway, it needs a curtain because it lit up the room at night, I had to put a towel over it to block out some of the light. One last thing I have to mention is hotel employee Miguel, he was so kind in helping us plan our stay in PR, he helped us map out sites, and gave us advice on where to eat and drink. He is very polite and gracious.

Room Tip: No Elevator so stay on lower floor. Fortaleza street is currently being repaved until December 2013...

Dear Kareen,

Thank you so much for your review! We are so happy you had a chance to enjoy our breakfast and the view from our rooftop. We have installed a curtain in 2I today thanks to your comment and have made a list of other rooms that might have this same issue so it can be fixed for future guests. It is incredible all the little things that can slip out attention and this is why we really like Trip Advisor as a tool for communication.

You guys make us better with every review!

We hope to see you back in PR soon,

This is a great boutique hotel in the main street in old sj. Is a 5 floor biulding in the old centre, so don't expect an elevator here or in any old centre in any part of the world. Great rest and family like service. Say Hi to the chef!!!

My boyfriend and I recently stayed for 2 nights in a standard queen after having spend a few days doing the "beach resort" thing on the east end of the island. I'm definitely glad we decided to stay in Old San Juan itself instead of nearby - was great to have a home base to drop stuff off and take a break during the day - location is fantastic!

The Casablanca appealed to us because of it's uniqueness and affordability and it delivered on that. We'd been a little spoiled at the beach resort with a free upgrade to premium ocean view balcony room so in comparison, the room seemed a little cramped, but I know it's not a fair comparison. The decor in the room/bathroom was fun, the A/C worked great, and it wasn't too noisy despite the construction. The bed was ok - frame was a little creaky but the mattress was ok. Pillows were a little flat for me but I like them really fluffy. A wardrobe or closet would have been nice and I did miss having a hair dryer and an iron in the room. We might have been able to get one at the front desk - we didn't follow up to ask and there wasn't any kind of "welcome" book in the room that we could find out about amenities available; that's an easy fix that would be nice.

Overall: good value, great location, unique rooms. Some small things to improve on but nothing critical.

We had a brief tour last May when we had a day stop over and I fell in love that day but we never saw our room. I imagined for 5 months what our room looked like and we were not disappointed.
Check in was a breeze as we had already paid in advance. Now for the trip up to the fourth floor.
I had the two carry on bags, two shoulder bags and my husband had the 50 pound suitcase. If you've read other reviews, you know there is no elevator. Yes, its true... the stairs are BRUTAL.

Got to our room, 4G and knew that every step we took up to our room was more than worth it!
Our room was actually on the larger side with a large wardrobe and a smaller desk with the tv on it. Bathroom was good size but there is no counter space like everyone states. But there is a stand in the corner that you can place your toiletries on.

We had a walk out with our room. It was a large space with four lounge chairs. We spent a lot of time out there. Noise wasn't an issue inside the room but you could hear the street noise from our walk out balcony.
Almost forgot about the rooftop. Great views of the city.
There were imperfections with the room, peeling paint but to me, it was part of the charm. The linens were clean, bed was comfortable, was in Old San Juan... why fret about the little stuff.

We had breakfast at Ricks Café in the back of the lobby. Guests of the hotel get 20% off their bill. Decent breakfast. Coffee is available to guests 24 hours a day, no charge and my husband who loves his coffee said it was pretty good.

This hotel may not be for everyone but we will definitely be back and we will also book the same room and climb those BRUTAL stairs...

Room Tip: Rooms on the back side are quieter. No elevator.

We stayed here two nights pre-cruise. I reserved through the hotel website and requested a 2nd floor, quiet room which is exactly what we got. I had also emailed ahead of time saying that we would like someone to help us with our luggage. The staff was very accommodating - if you need help with something, just ask...and please be sure to tip appropriately! We even arranged for the bellman to help us walk our luggage to the cruise terminal. Yes, the room was small, but comfortable with plenty of hot water in the shower and an A/C that worked well. We had an inside room which was very quiet. We took advantage of the rooftop view and loved relaxing in the tub while enjoying a bottle of wine. We were the only ones up there so it felt very private and romantic. The location can't be beat for OSJ. We would stay here again.

Room Tip: We had a second floor interior standard room which was small but quiet and comfortable.

We stayed here prior to going on a cruise on the Carnival Valor. The location is perfect to get around old San Juan and the cruise port. The lobby shouts "Eclectic" and keeps your eyes moving trying to take in everything. To the rear of the lobby is "Rick's Cafe America" and the bar does not open until 6PM. They show clips from Casablanca on the wall on the far end of the bar.
We had a basic room which actually had a window that opened to the Lobby. The room was small by American standards but the bed was more than comfortable. The bath was also small but provided a shower, toilet, and wash basin. Our friends had a balcony room which was large and comprised of two rooms plus bath. The rooms are also very eclectic in there decoration.
The one drawback is a lack of elevator but the porter carried all our luggage up to the room.
We also had breakfast here and the food was prepared well and as described in the menu.
The cruise port is a short walk (almost all down hill) from the hotel and took probably ten minutes.

The lobby looks great with all the nice furniture. The room had the pretty plastic cracked bowl for a bathroom sink, the floor was speckled colored cement, bathroom floor had spots of leftover dried spackle, a covered couch 6 inches from the bed, the worst part about the room was the light coming thru the frosted windowpane kept the room lit up all night with no curtain or hardware for us to even throw something over it. The room over looked the lobby. Don't look for perfection here, semi-comfortable, staff was nice & resourceful. My assumption is any hotel under $150 will get you this type of hotel.
