Another great hotel in Puerto Rico! A large group of our dragon boat team opt to stay here instead of the place across the street. From booking to check-out, the staff was always concerned about our needs.
Pros:
1. Lovely hotel in Old San Juan on a one way street. You can stop in front of the hotel, take your luggage out, and then find parking or pull into the small alley on your left as to not block traffic.
2. No elevator, but we are a fit and hardy bunch of paddlers so this was not a problem. The staff is more than happy to help with luggage. Loved the people at the front desk - helpful, friendly, and took the time to make great suggestions about restaurants, parking, etc. Ask for a hair dryer when you check in and before you go upstairs.
3. Smallish, but well-appointed rooms in the spirit of Casablanca. Each room was individualized with nice touches and a warm feeling. The lobby had the movie Casablanca showing. Bogart never looked better.
4. Great breakfast at the hotel. Make sure you have a drink at the bar in the evening and talk to the sweet woman who tended bar for the hotel. She was absolutely charming and she made a mean drink to boot. Everyone at this hotel always had a smile to share and really cared about the guests. She was absolutely charming and she made a mean drink to boot. Everyone at this hotel always had a smile to share and really cared about the guests. On the last day, the manager asked me was everything taken care of as I expected since I had sent a few emails a month before.
5. Parking garage is 2 blocks from the hotel: Dona Fela, about $12/day. There is another garage adjacent to it priced at $ 60-80/day so make sure you enter the right one. Parking is also allowed on the street after 8 pm. Once you find a parking spot, it's yours unless you move your car - no time limit. We asked the police on patrol in the area.
6. Restaurants favorites: Mojito's Restaurant, El Jibarito, Restaurant Barrachina (great pina coladas) - all within walking distance from the hotel. Get the map from the front desk.
7. See the sunrise on the roof deck in the early morning. Take a snack and drink and see the great sunset in the evening.
Cons:
1. We didn't stay long enough.
2. We didn't have time to do the Zipline tour.
3. Weather cancelled the Bioluminescence tour on Vieques Island
Our team will be headed back to Puerto Rico for the 2015 dragon boat races and we will make Casablanca our top choice in hotel accommodation.More
