Fortaleza street has nice shops you can check out, both souvenir and retail stores. The street is currently under construction so do not expect to drive up and down the street; you'll be better off walking.

We love checking out local shops and buying souvenirs. This is a great place to check out local and touristy shops. You can find your typical generic souvenirs and you can find unique and interesting shops and items here as well. There are lots of great restaurants to pop into as well.

Too many touristy shops/souvenir shops. Some good restaurants and bars are here. Very safe for wandering around.

We've walked this street by day and night. It's crowded with shoppers and tourists, especially when the cruise ships are in, which seems like almost every day! Lots of jewelry stores but also familiar name brand stores like Polo and Coach. The vibe at night is different, more night clubby as most of the shop keepers have closed up and gone home. Do get off the beaten path a bit to explore the interesting bars and restaurants. We love a little bar in the courtyard behind El Convento. During the day it's hot, hot, hot, but almost all the shops have AC. Check out the artisan shops, which have more interesting and better quality merchandise than the tourist traps. But hey, if you just have to have a tee shirt, you won't be disappointed. Love the architecture and the blue stone streets and after many visits have not tired of this. Do wear comfortable walking shoes and if you've got kids, keep in mind that their attention span will flag sooner than yours. And if you kids are not up to trying new foods, no worries, it's America, plenty of fast food places they'll know and love.

Fun! Full of lots of stuff that I really am not interested in Purchasing. I like the store on the corner. The Natural Home Store. The owner is very nice and they are all so crafty!
