I am really sorry to say this, but Santurce is just a shadow of what is used to be. This is a large area with a blending of busnisses, residential facilities (condos & houses), educational institutions, and recreational facilities. The one thing that stills stands out is "La Placita". You can find bars, restaurants, and a farmers market with a lot of Puerto Rican natural food and condiments. Also, it is a great place to have a drink, eat "criollo" food and listen to latino music then this is the place.

We went to the Placita de Santurce on a Friday night, and it was an amazing experience! This is where the locals go for some good basic food (alcapurrias in a chinchorro, yum!), for music and dancing. It is best to go with a group, as it adds more to the experience, but it would be fine for couples as well. There were lots of little bars where musicians were playing from the heart, with people watching from chairs or just daicing on the sidewalk or even in the street. It was a very festive atmoshpere, lively and fun! It was mostly salsa music, but there were also places playing bachata music. There were a lot of good looking men that I was assured were there just to be with friends- it might be considered a PR version of "Jersey Shore"- working class people out to have a good time on the town.

Some parts dirty, some parts lavish, but the center of many circles, this is where art, music & culture collide.
