I had called the hotel earlier to alert them that I would be seeking an early arrival check-in time.
When we arrived there was no wait time to speak of.
The room was adequate with a partial ocean view. We were only interested in sleeping there.
We went to san Juan strictly for R &R in a warm climate. We were not interested in sightseeing.
I had worked in San Juan years before and was just interested in the pool, casino, and a place to eat for 4 or 5 days.
We enjoyed the pool area and the casino.

My husband and I had been on a 7 day cruise, and stayed over in San Juan for 4 days. The first two days we stayed in Old San Juan then moved here for the last two days. It is a slightly disappointing for us having just spent time at El Convento, since we are a couple and it was so charming and romantic. This hotel is more modern, hip, and much bigger/busier, so I would say it is better for families or people who prefer those traits over smaller and charming. Also, rain and storms intensified over these two days so the beach wasn't the best place to be. So keep that in mind. However, this is a beautiful hotel. The lobby has been recently updated and is very nice. Check-in was very easy and as we are Platinum Elite they upgraded us to a nice, corner room that overlooked the city and mountains. It also had a balcony that overlooked the ocean. We were on the 11th floor. I will say I was a little disappointed in their turndown service. As is often the case these days in big hotels, they do it "on request only". They did not come when they were supposed to, but to their credit guest services stayed on it until they did, and followed up to make sure it got done. I also asked for it to be done for both nights of our stay, but they did not come the second night and I decided not to deal with it. Also, they actually didn't turndown the bed. They freshened the bathroom and closed the drapes.

As I said the beach is small and while the walk on the beach is nice, it is not a long one. We really didn't like how all the beach lounge chairs where crowded so close together. We opted to use the pool area. It is very nice with great servers, but at times it got so busy that the two of them could barely keep up. Pedro especially was very friendly. We went for breakfast at the La Vista Latin Grill one morning and it was very good. The Coffee Merchant in the lobby was okay. I ordered an Americano and I am sure it was brewed coffee and not espresso with hot water added. I went to the Starbucks across the street the next morning. The concierges were very lively and helpful. We went into the casino one night, and found it to be more relaxed than it would be in Las Vegas. We enjoyed it. We went to two restaurants in the area for dinners and they were both EXCELLENT. The first was Raos by Piccolo E Posto. It was one of the best Italian meals we have ever had, shock! The second was Yerba Buena. They had great Puerto Rican food, atmosphere and very friendly staff. They stay busy so I would recommend reservations. We went to Blondas for breakfast and it was so good, although a little expensive.

It costs about $15 each way to Old San Juan (w/o luggage), $19 with 4 pieces of luggage, and $21 to the airport with luggage. Overall, we probably would go back there again, but if we had more time we most likely would go to a beach that was more picturesque and not as crowded.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are especially nice with two balconies.

This is good hotel in San Juan situated between the airport and the old town of San Juan. Very nice rooms and an active pool area with bar that opens onto a long sandy beach. Casino is attached (although we did not go to it). Friendly front desk staff, clean, modern rooms with upgraded décor. This is exactly what you want from a reliable American brand hotel.

Room Tip: Be sure to get a room on the ocean side

We stayed 1 Saturday night before we boarded a cruise ship on Sunday. This place is hopping on a Saturday night! The lobby bar had live salsa music, tons of people all dressed to the nines. Upon check-in, they gave us complimentary drink tickets for a rum and coke, it was great. The room itself was a nice, oceanfront / pool view. Clean, safe and Starbucks right across the street. I would stay here again. The sushi bar in the lobby is really fun and good too (it's just outside the casio)

Room Tip: as for an ocean view room

We stayed at Marriott San Juan Resort for 10 days in August. Despite the property's somewhat dated look, overall it's a great hotel: for those that want proximity to the city's restaurants and sights, while having easy access to a nice beach, this is the place to go. Marriott seems to cater to an extremely diverse group of visitors - families with kids, couples, businesspeople, people from Caribbean cruises just staying for a night or two and wedding guests.

Resort area is relatively small, but due to a very smart layout area around the pool seems much bigger than it actually is. There is also a smallish casino that I frequented with mixed results. Stuff was extremely friendly.

Location was great for us - Old San Juan is just 15 minutes away and there are a couple of dozen restaurants within a walking distance - from upscale eateries such as Argentinian steakhouse Ummo to the likes of Starbucks, Baskin Robins and Burger King. And the local burger chain Buns just across the road from the hotel is not to be missed - their fries and hot dogs are to die for. Hotel food is OK, but among the most expensive I've come across for a hotel anywhere: we ate at the Italian place next to the pool once and also ordered to our room once (a very basic lunch for two with no alcohol set us back $100). All other times we ate out.

The biggest downside has to be the ocean - winds and waves are almost always very strong (in out 10 days the flag was red 8 days and yellow 2), making it dangerous for kids and absolutely no fun for adults. I assumed that was seasonal, but I've been told this seems to be problem unique to Condado for most of the year due to geography. So if you love swimming, I strongly advise you to look elsewhere. For everything else, this Marriott was great.

Dear Denis M;

Thank you for the feedback regarding your stay with us in August. We would like to let you know that our rooms were recently renovated in January and now feature a more modern and elegant feel. As you mention, our property is centrally located on Ashford Avenue with many restaurant options within walking distance from the hotel.

We are sorry to hear you weren't able to enjoy the Condado Beach.

Once again thank you for your review! We hope to see you back soon so you are able to enjoy our new room product!

This is our first time at the hotel. We arrived to learn that the room we'd reserved didn't exist (king bed plus pullout for our kids). Apparently there's been a renovation and there aren't pull outs any more. Instead we got stuck with a small room overlooking a gross rooftop with 2 hard-to-share double beds plus periodic loud mechanical noises. That said, I agree with others that the location is great. Best of all is the beach. Nice sand, tons of shade and great waves for body surfing and boogie boarding. (Pick up a board for $17 at Walgreens.) Unfortunately the pool is too cold, especially in the morning. (Others were commenting on this - not just my family.) Also, the housekeeping has been very erratic. If we could secure a better room, we'd probably come back.

We stayed at this property from Dec 15-20th. Like all Marriott properties, this one is clean, well kept and has attentive staff. However, I think what makes it stand out is its family friendly location, being in the heart of the Condado beach area. There is a Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts across the street alongwith a walgreens ( extremely handy when travelling with a toddler). Add to it a whole bunch of restaurants and a small park ( which our son loved) within walking distance.
We wanted to avoid a resort which was cut off from the rest of the city and staying at the Marriott Stellaris gave us the opportunity to explore San Juan at our own pace ( actually our son's pace) plus interact with the locals.
The few cons I can think of are:
1. Lack of kid friendly food options in the hotel. We used to spend a few hours during the day on the beach and there was nothing except french fries that our son could eat hence had to step out every afternoon for lunch.
2. The rooms are very small. This is the smallest room at a Marriott we have stayed in and I have stayed at the Marriott in Europe also.
3. A real kiddie pool.
Overall I do think this is a good family friendly property and would recommend it highly.
