The hotel was lovely ,well situated for taking a bus into old San Juan, and service was good. We booked through Cheap Caribbean and were given a total price. Upon check-in the clerk said there would be an additional 16% resort fee and an additional 11% tax. The resort fee was to cover a safe in the room, 2 casino passes, two rum and cokes in the lobby bar, and a few other trival additions. We called Cheap Caribbeaan and they said the resort fee was in their posting which I could not find upon rechecking the site. Cheap Caribbean said they would check into this problem and did call back the following morning saying it was all a mistake. However you book, check to see if resort fees and taxes are included in the price of your booking. As a bonus, the pina coladas were the best we have ever had.

Room Tip: If you have traveled often to the Caribbean, an ocean view may not be necessary. The city view was m...

A typical solid marriot however the lobby bar was really fun at nite with bands and is connected to the casino. Nice pool and beach. Great location in san juan with plenty of bars and eateries in walking distance.
My only beef with the place is that the pool bar is lame and it is hard to get service. The hotel charges $8.50 a beer and $14 cocktails......so hopefully you have a weak tolerance or it will cost yo $$.

We booked this hotel because of its location, its beachfront and because it had a casino. The hotel certainly met our expectations too! Location was great to get to Old San Juan, the air port and they offered many tours that were about 1 hour from the hotel. The Concierge was very helpful and gave us a lot of tips. Thank you Waldo! They have happy hour every day and the bar staff was friendly. We had never been to Puerto Rico but when we go we would stay here again. Negative was the room's view which looked at the AC unit but we were only in our room at night so it didn't matter. We went to a lot of the nearby restaurants and none really hit us but we did like Orozco's, Buns and of course, Starbucks!

Room Tip: If you want an ocean view, you should book one, otherwise, just enjoy the hotel pool, beach and comm...

We spent 5 nights here and enjoyed it a lot. The room was reasonably sized and comfortable. I screwed up the reservation by asking for two double beds rather than a King, but the front desk remedied that for us upon our request and got us a King bed room without mentioning my mistake.

The location and service (with 2 exceptions--see below) were excellent. There were several very good restaurants in walking distance and the proximity to the airport (which is not present with several other Puerto Rican resorts) meant we actually were able to spend a large portion of the day we arrived and the day we left on the beach. The service in the beachfront restaurant was top notch--all six days we enjoyed our lunch there.

Curiously, though, the one really difficult experience came from what I believe is the same kitchen for dinner. On our first day there, we were a bit tired so we decided to eat at the hotel restaurant. I must say that that was the worst experience I have ever had at a Marriott (where we stay frequently). The service was awful (order for drinks not taken for 45 minutes, salads delivered 15 minutes later, wine (with dirty glasses) 15 minutes after that, and cooler for the wine 15 minutes after that. This, in a restaurant with almost no diners. Our party of 4 had mixed reviews on the meal quality, but my swordfish was incredibly tough. The good news is that when we let the front desk know of our disappointment in that experience, after ironically being offered a free dinner the next day (which we declined), we were told that the dinner was complimentary (which was, in my judgment, the appropriate thing to do). We lost the opportunity to have a good dinner elsewhere, which is a negative, but, in the way this hotel handled the situation, I do not have hard feelings, as my experience with Marriott overall tells me this was an aberration that I would not expect to be repeated and we were treated fairly.

A minor other negative was in the hotel maid service. The maid who serviced our room a couple of times forgot to leave shampoo and soap. Also there was a call made from our room while we were not on the premises, which I have to suspect was done while the room was being cleaned--although I do not know that for sure. In any event, the hotel got us the bathroom items and took the charge for the telephone call off our bill without any question.

I am not someone who expects perfection, and the way the hotel handled our issues shows me it is a place where fair treatment is given and makeups for flaws are made. So, while I cannot based on this trip give this property a 5, to me it gets a 4 and, given all of the positives, we would definitely go back again.

Just got back unfortunely from a Anniversary trip/ getaway from th cold. We always stay at this hotel and the reason is always the people that work there. The people that work there always treat us like family and have truly become family. Sonny ( La Vista rest.) along with his cohort Angelo are by far the best servers you can ever have. Hector and Leonel at the bech and pool bars will make you feel like your the only person they are serving due to the personal service. Richard at the beach will have your chairs and umbrella set up for you. In the lobby bar there is Jose the Bartender and of course the spitfire Andrea she is like our daughter now. You will be meet by Mahindra, the best bellman on the Island. These are the guys and gals we now call family and if you choose this hotel will also make you feel like family. The hotel is laid out great with a bar, live music, casino, and a great beach and pool. stop in and relax. My wife and I recommend it.

The good - it's beachfront! And even you don't like the beach, it has a good pool. The service is very good - from check in, to room service, to bell man, all are very kind.
The bad - it is a very old building. I believe they are going thought some kind of remodeling. Well, they better get it done quick.

Overall, we are happy we choose Marriott instead of La concha because most reviews say Marriott is better for family and kids. As we came with two under age kids, we agree Marriott is a good choice for family for a vacation in San Juan. Would like to come back again, especially after it completes the remodeling.

Pretty much a typical Marriott so no surprises in store.

Efficient check-in, the room was ready and everything we wanted was there - plenty of storage space, coffee machine and an ironing board (which is good when you are travelling to several destinations so packing and unpacking a lot).

The staff are all cheerful, efficient and helpful.

The lobby area is busy with a bar and the casino and a coffee shop off to one side. In the evenings there is also entertainment in the lobby so it can be quite noisy. However at the back of the lobby is a very peaceful lounge area with very comfortable sofas and free wi-fi so ideal for catching up on emails or reading.

A free casino lesson was on offer - my husband and son took it up and enjoyed the experience.

The pool area is quite small and most of it can be in the shade but there are lots of hotel sun beds on the beach. Beach towels are supplied.

When we were there - in January - it was quite windy, especially near to the hotel building itself.

There are a couple of on-site restaurants which are perfectly adequate but also many others nearby and everything is just a short walk away.

If you want a taxi they are always ready at the entrance.

San Juan is an interesting town and a visit to the 'Old Town' a must if you like history - there is a free 'pop on pop off' bus which gives you a good tour. But there is a lot more to explore on foot.

If shopping makes your holiday head for the Ralph Lauren outlet shop on the front on the old town - very good prices and a lot of choice.

Room Tip: Definitely ask for a sea view! The higher floors are better too.
