My husband and I just returned from a quick trip to San Juan for the Rolling Stones Concert... which was fantastic, however our hotel choice was the pits, outragous in price $330 base rate, after a movie, a quick phone call, and 2 glasses of wine and taxes $466!!! One night, The Ritz it was not, Check in, hands full, no one to open the door, the lobby, where the bar tables practically meet you at the door were covered with reserved signs, there was a private party later there that night, in the very small Lobby!, not at all elegent like The Ritz, Caribe Hilton, or El COnvento where we often stay. Long lines at the check in, luggage everywhere, apparantly the cruise passangers are fond of this place, at check in our guaranteed king size bed was not available, 2 doubles, not at that price, eventually they did change our room, large bed, very small balcony, view of the very crowded pool, no chairs available and the packed beach, chairs side by side. Upon returning to the hotel after the concert (asked if the hotel could recommend transportation, they could not) we found the lobby full, all those who had attended the private party, and tons of locals dancing to salsa, standing room only, no seats for the guests, upon grabbing a table after a couple left, 20 minutes went by, we asked waiters to stop, got the "just a minute" they never returned, my husband went to the bar and asked for a drink in Spanish, he was told to sit and wait for the waiter, exasberated, I went to the bar and in English requested 2 glasses of wine and was served, 30 minutes after starting out, I timed it, we then went in the Casino where they had a noodle bar, ordered appetizer's, and when we tried to order dinner were told it would be at least an hour! Apparently the Noodle bar was servicing another dining area turning out frozen chicken fingers and french fries, exhausted and starved we returned to our rooms, skipped breakfast the next moring, breakfast was not included, room service prices started at $15 per person, based on our prior nights experience we decided not worth it, we checked out and headed to our favoirite Spanish bakery in Ocean Park. Typically you would expect a Marriot to offer above average service, clearly this was not the case, this sold out hotel herded their guests like cows while accommodating a local clientel as well, compounding the overcrowded facility and overwhelmed staff, look elsewhere like Caribe Hilton, Interconttinental, RItz, Condado is a fun area, the new hotels they are building look beautiful, the MArriot should look into beefing up or I expect will be loosing many customers.

My husband and I just got back from a 5 day stay at the San Juan Marriott. This hotel had a great location. It was located right on the beach, which was absolutely beautiful. The water can be a bit rough there, but most people swam in it anyway (us included). The front of the hotel faces a great strip filled with resturaunts (everything from burger king to local puerto rican food spots to lovely sea food resturaunts), gift shops, a bank, and a Walgreens pharmacy - that really came in handy for buying items we forgot as well as water and snacks for the room. I was a little suprised at the size of the room, which was a bit small, but it didnt really matter, because you are only really in the room to sleep, and the bed was very comfortable! Definately use the hotel concierge, who were so nice and helpful!! We weren't really planning on going on any of the day trips but then endeded up going on 2- an all day snorkeling trip which was beautiful and a really great value, and the 3 hour city tour of old san juan. There is really just too much stuff to mention, but I would definately recommend this hotel!! Have Fun!!

Our family of four spent last Saturday night at the Marriott Stellaris and were not disappointed. We used Marriott points to stay for free and were given an oceanview (from the side) room instead of the city view we were supposed to get. The hotel was seven minutes and $17.50 from the airport and we were able to check in at 1 p.m. on a very busy day for them (cruise ship turnover day during Northeast schools' vacation week). Check in took only five minutes.
The room was just like most Marriotts. Could use newer carpet but the rest was fine. Bathroom was updated but only had one sink (but a big vanity). Nice balcony with a view.
The resort bustles with activity which we enjoyed for one night (it's not the type of place we would want to spend our vacation but that's just our preference). Pool area was crowded but fun--loved having live music with a Latin flair, poolside lunch service was quick, expensive and server was very friendly. Tough finding chaise lounges but that was to be expected. Kids enjoyed the pool slide and swimming in the ocean--great waves!
Wish we'd had another night to enjoy the hotel and Old San Juan. Was surprised how much I enjoyed all of it after a lazy week on St. Croix. Would definitely go back to the Marriott and San Juan.
One note: be sure to give yourself PLENTY of time to check into the airport--all lines are long!--thank goodness we get to speed through them due to husband's gold status on American. Should have arrived at least 1 1/2 hours early.

We stayed in the Marriott one evening as we arrived on day before our cruise departure. Our room class was pool/ocean and we have a full ocean view visible beyond the pool. Room was spacious and clean and we enjoyed the ocean view from our balcony. So often we have been disappointed in room views but in this case we were very happy with our view. Common areas of the hotel were nicely appointed and the pool area was nice and well maintained. Would definitely stay here again.

I am taking the time to write this review because Tripadvisor has helped me out so much as far as finding good hotels. I think people are easily compelled to write a bad review, but seldom take the time to write a good review.

We were pleasantly surprised with Puerto Rico and the Marriott Resort and Stellais Casino. The rooms are 5-star but they are a good solid 4 star. Our first room was on the second floor which I found a little noisy and musty smelling, but they happily changed us to a 9th floor room which was clean, comfortable, and well-suited. We had a beautiful ocean and pool view.

The service was wonderful. Everyone was extremely friendly and helpful from the restaurant, front desk, housekeeping, and bellmen.

Old San Juan is about 4 miles away. A bus cost 75 cents and a taxi costs $14. Problem is, the bus drives by the hotel about every hour or so. It can be a long wait. Be sure to have exact change or they won't they you on.

We had cloudy and rainy weather the 4 days we were there, but we still had a great time. Old San Juan was very quaint. We loved it more than New Orleans (before the hurricane of course). The architecture, bar, shops, people, etc. were great. We had complete strangers ask us if we needed help finding our way around. We felt safe and not threatened at all--even walking around at night in Old San Juan.

As you're walking our of the Marriott, make a left down the street. There are plenty of restaurants and shops with better prices and food than the Marriott.

We went on the bio-luminescent tour that was coordinated by the Marriott tour guide. It was a lot of fun. Be sure to bring water shoes and wear a bathing suit--you will get wet in your kajak. It's about a 30 minute non-stop paddle out and back so be worned if you're not in shape. We left about 7:00 p.m. and got back to the hotel (via bus) at around 12:45.

There is something going on in the bar and nightclub at the hotel every night. We loved dancing to the live band. Even some folks who were staying at the Ritz Carlton (they were on our bio-luminescent bus) couldn't believe how "happening" our hotel was.

The casino is small compared to a Las Vegas casino. We had fun playing 3-card poker. They had slots, blackjack, routlette, craps, etc.

There were people of all ages at the Marriott. Mostly Americans and more kids than I thought for late January (Friday through Monday). I love the fact that it only took us a little over 3 hours non-stop (American Airlines) to travel from BWI airport. The hotel was only about 15 minutes from the airport too.

The beach wasn't the greatest outside our hotel. It wasn't very big and it's a public beach so it's a little cluttered. They make a lot of effort to keep it clean, but it's still a bit littered. Also, the water wasn't calm when we were there because storms were coming in, but I'm not sure if it would have been much better otherwise. We had 15-20 mph winds while we were there and rainy conditions so it's difficult to tell.

We rented a car on Sunday and traveled the island. That's what is nice about Puerto Rico, you're not trapped at your resort. You can travel freely without any problems. My husband is a police officer, so believe me when I say he felt comfortable traveling by car. Ponce wasn't worth stopping by, but we did go to Guanica (Dry Forest)which was pretty nice. We had lunch at the Copamarina Resort which was very quiet and secluded, but there is nothing going on around the resort. The weather was great on that part of the island (southwest) and the water was calm, but there was no place to go other than the resort. At least at the Marriott you could shop, visit Old San Juan, walk around, etc.

We will definitely go back to Puerto Rico. Brush up on your Spanish (although everyone spoke at least a little bit of English). Enjoy the friendly people and wonderful atmosphere.

We would definitely stay at the Marriott Resort again.

Before I left for my stay, I was always looking at this hotel's review. I have to say that most of them were accurate. I especially found the advise on the trip to the Bacardi Factory. Follow the previous advise. Do not pay for the hotel package trip to the factory, you can do it on your own, by taking the B21 bus to down town San Juan ( stop right outside the Marriot), get off at the last stop down and walk down the hill- turn right to Pier #2 and take the Ferry over for .50 cents. Oh! the bus is .75 cents. make sure and have exact change (No bills). When you get off the ferry, take a right towards a blue building, there will be taxi drivers there that will take you to the Bacardi factory for 3.00....much less than the hotel tour. Coming back, you have to pick up the B21 bus at the terminal to Condado.

The hotel stay was great. Very busy and crowded on the weekends, with the locals, who love to dance, so this was entertaining. The staff was pleasant and the concierge was always helpful. Everything is as stated in previous posts. Starbucks across the street with free Wi-Fi. Walgreen’s right down the street for Misc. stuff like juices and water...Too expensive at the hotel. Be warned that if you will not be using the pool towels, and free water, you do not have to accept the 10% resort fee. The hotel tries to cater for business folks, so the fee is not mandatory, if you are not using all of their services.

What else...the food was expensive so if you are on a budget, their are some reasonable American places, Burger King, Uno's etc. We slept most of the time, and got up late, so these were savers for us for dinner. Then we had a nice dinner at Ajili Mójili, but it was way overprice and the food was noting to write home about. Old San Juan was very nice to visit and walk around and window shop,,,, the prices were not very attractive, since they cater for people visiting on the cruise ships. However, there were plenty of restaurants down town. The cab is $12.00 per trip. We visited the La Plaza American mall...very huge...$12.00 one way in a cab..you can take the same B21 bus, but it take an hour on the bus, as oppose to $12.00 in the cab ( depends on your fancy and time constraints).

All in all good get-away for a four day weekend for our anniversary.

I am Marriott platinum member too and I had exactly the opposite experience with this Marriott (as compared to the person who wrote the review before me). We stayed at this hotel from Jan 21-27th. Our check in took less than 5 minutes, room was average size and very clean. No issues with the water pressure or room service. Our room was cleaned everyday by 10am and the hotel staff was very friendly. House keeping usually came back in late evening for the turndown service. Lobby does get VERY crowded on the weekends and that is mainly because they have a live band and even getting out of the lobby can be a chore. You will see lots of people dancing and it was fun to watch. I don’t think that hotel really should be listed as CAT 6 but it was not bad at all.
They have 2 swimming pools and the swim up bar is only opened on the weekends; they never have people available to open the slide on time and they close is before time.
The beach was nice and clean and the hotel staff was always available to find chairs for us. Be ready to pay a lot of $$ for drinks and food both inside and outside the hotel. The hotel has a great location and there are tons of good places to eat. Two places that we highly recommend are Yerba Buena (Sp?), Miros (make a left at the Walgreens light and walk 2 blocks) . Walgreens was a life saver for water, snacks, beach stuff etc. There is a starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Wendys, Subway just a little walking distance away. We did not rent a car because parking is a big problem and the hotel will charge you 14 bucks per day to park. There is a Hertz counter in the hotel itself and we rented a car for a day to visit the rainforest. If you are taking the rainforest tour, make sure that take you to the La Mina falls (most tours don’t coz it is a 30 min easy hike). The hike is well worth it coz it the most refreshing dip you will have. We took a snorkeling tour, the bus comes and picks you up right from the hotel and it was great way spend the day. We went to Old San Juan a couple of times and always took the bus for 75 cents. We did the Bacardi and the Fort tours ourselves and in my opinion taking the tour would not be worth it. For the Bacardi tour, take the bus to Old San Juan and walk over to the Ferry terminal, take the ferry for 50 cents and take a $3 cab ride from the other side to the distillery. Your room will have a copy of Que Pasa magazine and it is very helpful. It has a great detail about the walking Tour of Old San Juan and also had a rating for the restaurants in the hotel area. I recommend reading the walking tour if you plan to visit the forts yourself.
Overall, people were very friendly and always pointed us in the right direction.
