“Very Nice, but noisy”
Reviewed 7 April 2013

There are many things that impress me with this hotel. Yes it was busy, it was spring break yet I felt they handled the crowd well. Lobby, bar area pool area and beach are awesome! Restaurants are nice but pricey, work out room clean and with the latest equipment. There are two convenience stores within a block along with Subway(a savior for breakfast) and a car rental next door. Driving is busy, lots of traffic but doable. Don't plan on parking in OSJ. Take the bus to OSJ, cabs are anywhere from $12-$18 to OSJ and $22(with 4 bags). to the cruise ship... Cabs are expensive in San Juan. The cruise ship is a shorter distance than the airport, but the fare is higher....Our cruise ship did not dock at OSJ but across the bay. Back to the hotel....Our room was on 11th floor and was very noisy, could hear absolutely everything the neighbors on both sides said. We had a room that had doors adjoining those rooms and that may have been the source. Had a nice view of the ocean. Room was clean, yup it needs an update but there are many other pluses to this hotel that make it nice.

Room Tip: Go for higher floors and do your best not to get an adjoining door and hope it's not noisy.

I traveled with friends who have kids. They chose this location. It was centrally located, 5 min cab ride into Old San Juan, or easy 2 mile walk. Beautiful Beach area, nice lagoon with gentle waves great for swimming and for kids. Swimming platform anchored in lagoon, older kids love this. Water toys, inflatables available for rental. Friendly staff. Staff will set up umbrellas for you wherever you like. Beautiful pool area. Short pier to walk out and view the reef with colorful fish! Plenty of areas to be. Palm tree grove with hammocks for relaxing. Basically everything you need to enjoy the sunshine! Starbucks coffee shop in lobby, mornings is busy. Piña Colada cafe had best food available, loved the Caribbean tacos! Other food at this hotel was lacking. The breakfast buffet was just O.K. Not a lot of variety. We were very disappointed with the lack of fresh fruit. Hawaii and Mexico hotels always have an abundance of fresh fruits. The eggs benedict was terrible!!! They used some kind of bread like for bread pudding, mushy and not right, tasted almost moldy. Food service was slow. Cept Piña Coladas was quick. Spa was nice, good massages, but pricey! Our rooms faced east, so lots of morning sun, but no sunset. We were higher floor so great ocean views, but also view over the roofs of conference rooms below, and could not hear waves over the LOUD hum of the building AC units below. Would recommend room on opposite side. Beds were comfy pillow top, and down duvets. Mini fridge in room. Flat screen TV. Clock radio with audio jack to plug in your own portable iPod or similar device. King room plenty spacious, and room for 2 cribs.

Room Tip: Pick a west side room.

We just returned from our visit to Puerto Rico. I loved the lobby area, pool and private beach. However, it was very crowded and the service was not very good. The rooms were small and could use some updating. We felt that we sould have had a better experience for the price we paid.

The "Garden Villas" are very nice but do not have a beach view, and are quite a trek from the lobby, so if you cannot walk far, avoid these rooms.
The rooms in the tower have a beach view but are not as nice in my experience.
Expect slow and relaxed check in experience and at the restaurants.
Great private beach, pool with swim up bar, restaurants are great but a little pricey.
Friendly and sincere service every time I have been there.

Room Tip: Garden rooms are nicer and a good walk from the lobby., tower rooms have a better view.

First, I want to start this review by saying that I visit Puerto Rico three-five times a year. I am a from New York and have stayed at most every hotel in Isla Verde and the Condado area. I have reviews from the Ritz in San Juan on Trip Advisor and La Concha hotel, and others. So you can trust this review as fair. We we went to the Caribe Hilton, and had three rooms, because multiple family members joined us for Easter. This hotel is absolutely outdated, and worse, the staff was rude, cold, and just appeared to "do their job" and provided no service whatsoever. The rooms are hit or miss. For example, my parents had an old, horrid, run down room with two double beds. However, myself and my sisters family had two king bed rooms, which were far and away much nicer than my parents room. My mother's room had two bugs (extremely large) that crawled out of the drain in the shower. By this point, we had 4 rooms in the hotel, because another family member arrived. When my mother asked to move rooms or obtain some type of credit (she was unable to shower as the housekeeping staff sprayed "medicine" in the drain and told her to wait an hour so no more bugs came up), the manager was cold and really not helpful in the least. He offered a 25$ credit. Yes. Just TWENTY FIVE dollar credit when our rooms totalled over $5,000 for the week. Now on to the main restaurant for breakfast. The buffet is pathetic. It is dirty, and most everything is cold. The wait staff is not courteous, although one morning, someone was nice to us. The bread sits out and is old. The other restaurants are not even worthy of discussion. Except for Morton's, which made this trip remotely bearable, since the food was great, and the atmosphere was very nice, in sharp contrast to the hotel. There are FOUR ELEVATORS in the the entire place. You could wait 20 mins for an elevator, especially in the tower building. The check-in "main desk" is utterly pathetic. No one is attentive. You are not welcomed and worse, there are 3-4 "bellmen" who stand around and DONT OPEN ANY CAR DOORS OR TAKE ANY BAGS. They watch the guests pull bags out of the car and then will tag them, if you flag them down and ask. This hotel is not worth a second of your time. If you are travelling with family and can afford it, try the ritz. If that is a little too pricey, which it can be, I highly recommend La Concha, as the beach and pool are great and you are treated like a hotel GUEST and not customer who is renting room, which is how the Hilton makes you feel. For a couple's getaway: DO NOT GO HERE. There are many, many children. I won't even get into the beach service more than saying: non-existent. So pathetic. if they came around to ask for drinks and take food orders, this would be a more pleasant resort. You have to do everything yourself and they actually limit your towels. You should really avoid this hotel, the website is utterly deceptive. The lobby is the best part of this sub-par hotel, but to visit only for a lobby is a waste. If anything, visit Morton's, and that's it. The front driveway is so old and decrepit. The management should be ashamed of this place. The location is great, so if they ever decided to be courteous, clean the old rooms in the tower, make the breakfast more "4" star, and provide adequate and friendly front door staff, this place could be a three star. Avoid.

Room Tip: Definitely request a King Room if you can. From our experience, the King Rooms are all renovated and...

We've been going here "nearly" every Spring for 25 years and while it has indeed changed, it is still a great hotel. We're arriving on the 10th of April for another stay.
The Palmeras Breakfast Buffet is always a very good bet though it has not been as great as it used to be: the Ham and Cheese Station was "to die for" but, indeed, it has been minimalized.
Early "check-in" is always granted if you're a Hilton Honors Guest.
The staff is obliging and most courteous........You will love this hotel!

Great hotel with beautiful view. Great pools and also Lagoon if you want the sea. Staff was very nice. A little expensive for meals and drinks but you are close enough to go downtown if you wish. Great steak house, Morton's , in the hotel. Very enjoyable time.

Room Tip: View of the sea well worth it but the balconies are quite small.
