We stayed there with my husband for three nights when we visited puerto rico .
Its in great location, the staff is friendly, we had a great view of the ocean and the cruise ships from our balcony.
The hotel needs renovation but good overall.

We had our ASME Education Conference at the Sheraton Old San Juan. My experience could not have been better, and the discount price was a great value. They let me check in early since my room was vacant. And they held my bags when I had a late flight. Also, the location is perfect; my window allowed me to watch the cruise ships dock.

You couldn't beat the location of the hotel! Close to everything that our family thought was great about Old San Juan. Shopping, great restaurants with a great variety and history!

However if you want to do anything involving water/swimming etc then this hotel is probably not for you. There is a pool on the roof of the hotel but it's VERY tiny in terms of general hotel pool sizes and only reaches 4ft in depth. We would have been OK with this situation...had it not been that the hotel has 10 floors of guests--all trying to share the equivalent of a backyard pool and 10 chairs. The closest beach is about a 30 minute walk away but was not a fun walk in the heat/humidity (not to mention all the drug needles we saw on the ground on the walk to the beach) and ended up paying $30 round trip in a taxi the next day to go to the beach. ($15 each way was the rate we paid *after* price negotiation).

Again, the hotel is VERY nice and very well located...we had no problems with the staff, won a bit of money at the casino and overall had a nice stay...we were just very disappointed in not being able to go swimming without paying money or feeling squished in the pool.

Dear guest,
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We regret your inconvenience regarding the beach proximity. We indeed don't promote beach vacation in any of our sites although, you could also walk 3-4 blocks to a secluded nice beach across from the Capitolio - Senate house.

Great location, clean hotel and staff were pretty good. Elevators need a real tuneup as required room card to get the elevator to move but most often didn't work properly. Many, many guests we met on the elevator complained about the elevators.

Really didn't like the 14% room service charge. It was a surprise and we were told it was for the water and coffee in the room. Paid $33 each night for water and coffee in the room. Really! I would prefer up front pricing and no surprises. We were told it was in the fine print and that many guests like the costs broken down. I doubt that. Most people would prefer the total price up front. I expect more from Sheraton.

Dear guest, Thank you for choosing our property during your recent trip and for sharing your experience with us here. Elevator key access can be tricky at times and they are soon being completely upgraded. We are sorry you were not aware of the Hotel Service Fee as it should have been disclosed upfront at time of booking regardless of booking service used. Our hotel fee is very competitive in the island and Caribbean and aside from daily bottled water & coffee, also includes complimentary WiFi / high speed ethernet access and other amenities.

Nice hotel in old San Juan overlooking the cruise ship marina. Service was very good - when we checked in, the staff had already upgraded us to a balcony suite with a view overlooking the marina. Off course it pays to be a SPG platinum member! Check in and check out was painless and staff were very professional and helpful. The concierge was extremely well versed with local restaurants, prices and where to get a boat for the Bacardi tour. We spent two nites in beautiful San Juan to get away from the cold winter. Did not want to leave. Try the Punto del Vista restaurant just on the next block - great food, but be prepared to wait - just go to the bar for some 2-for 1 mojitos. Food is prepared fresh. Walk to the fort or take the free trolley. Old San Juan is accessible by foot - no need for a rental.

Room Tip: Get a balcony room if possible - it will be worth it!

This is a very nice hotel. It is right on the waterfront and on the edge of Old Town San Juan. We stayed here one night pre-cruise since we didn't want to chance "missing the boat!" Senior Frogs is right next door. The hotel has a somewhat fancy restaurant where we had a disappointing breakfast, and a noisy hamburger place on the main floor with outdoor seating and entertainment. The hotel does have a Casino.

For some reason we were upgraded to a mini suite on the ninth floor with a double balcony and wonderful view. The room was well appointed, comfortable bed, large TV, air-conditioned, nice clean bathroom.

You can walk one block in one of two directions and you are in Old Town. Worth the walk. Also ask about the free old town trolley. Best of all, for us, the Carnival Valor dock was an easy 2 block walk along the harbor. Other ships do not dock here and would require a taxi.

The hotel is nice, majority of staff are friendly, had interior room which was quiet and comfortable. Stayed 3 nights before cruise. As others have said the key card for the elevator is sometimes frustrating. It is a great idea from a security perspective, just needs a tune-up. Departing morning were surprised by 15.00 per night hotel service fee. Probably should have read fine print somewhere.
We could walk almost anywhere in Old San Juan from hotel. Many great restaurants 1 or 2 blocks away. Friday and Saturday nights are full of street activity, vendors selling wares and food items. Lots of music and fun. Found small strip type mall by trolley stop 1, outside only seating. Medalla only 1.25 and real cold. The service was fabulous. Forgot all about free trolley ride around area. 3 or 4 different routes all color coded. Hop on and off. The ferry to Catano is just a short walk. Take it to see Bicardi distillery. Cab ride from other side only 3 bucks to Bicardi. Can have tour for just 7 dollars per person, since Bicardi is no charge. Must mention Don Tello restaurant which is across street from ferry building in Catano. Food great and people real friendly. Second time here in San Juan. Just a great experience.
