“If Old World Charm is what you are looking for...you found it!”

The rooms are clean but nothing special. It was like the bathroom had been updated but the room had not...maybe that's on purpose. We stayed here one night before a cruise and booked last minute because the Chateau Cervantes closed without telling anyone...thank you Trip Advisor! They have a sister property across the road. It's a little different in that this one has the pool and the other property, Acacia, has the hot tub. We were able to go into Acacia and it was nicer, I thought, and closer to the beach. This property is about 1.5 blocks from the beach. The staff are very friendly and helpful and directed us to a great restaurant for dinner. I would not however, walk in this area at night time. I spent hours and hours attempting to find exactly the right place. Don't bother, it's all really close to each other and just a short cab ride away. Initially, I was disappointed that this place was not in Old San Juan but don't be, it's only about two miles away. It's really not a long distance to anything or from the airport. When we were ready to leave for our cruise, the staff called a cab for us. It was really nice. Unlike other hotels, this is a quiet place located in what appears to be a residential area. We walked to the nicest bar called Under the Trees where I had the BEST Mojito just down McLeary Street. If you are expecting a spacious hotel room, this place is not for you. They have a bar on the property that opens around 5:00 p.m., I believe. It was a nice start to our vacation.

Room Tip: All the rooms appeared to be the same to me?

Noisy hotel - air condition noise was so high that it was impossible to sleep.. window could no open… room smelled of mold and room was not the standard as ordered.
Situated on a rather un-charming part of the road in area of Contado.

Room Tip: Make Sure you get an balcony so you can open doors or windows..

We love this hotel and look forward to staying here again. If you're looking for a high rise hotel in the heart of a tourist area, this is not the place for you. Wind Chimes is in a residential neighborhood between ultra touristy Condado and a conglomerate of high rise hotels and condos in Isla Verde. Wind Chimes and its sister hotel, Acacia, are on the border of Condado and Ocean Park, just a block from the ocean. The hotel is...charming, clad in white stucco with tiles inset, small gardens, a sun deck and a small pool with waterfall. The staff, especially Evalisse and Claudio, are helpful and make the guest feel welcome. There is free good coffee in the small lobby in the morning and a well stocked bar. If you want to indulge in a huge hot tub with an ocean view you can use the facilities at Acacia, a half block away.

The reason the reviews vary so much is that the rooms are all very different - this was not built originally as a hotel but, I believe, a private home or two homes now joined as one hotel. We have stayed 3 times, the first visit we had a very small room with a tiny bath, much in need of updating. (Note to owners.) The location and warmth of staff made us return. On the 2nd visit we were upgraded to a much larger room off the patio that had a small kitchen. The refrigerator was nice. On the 3rd visit we hit the jackpot with an elegant, very large room in the main building. Its a bit hit and miss. You can book a large room or take a chance that you might be upgraded. I personally love the location, a quiet neighborhood. We managed free street parking but for $10 you can use the hotel's lot. If you don't have a car, the bus runs from the hotel into Condado and Old San Juan. Acacia has a nice but pricy restaurant. Kasalta, a famous and very popular bakery (for sandwiches and pastries) is only 4 blocks away. Obama ate there about 2 years ago when in Puerto Rico. There is also a good Mexican restaurant a block away, frequented, as far as we could tell, entirely by locals.

All in all, Wind Chimes, no matter what room you have, is good value and a nice place to meet interesting independent travelers.

Room Tip: Our less than good room was on the 2nd floor of the back building. It was adequate, quiet but great...

Overall the hotel was different. It's not a normal hotel (I guess that's why they have the word Boutique in the name?). The room we were in was VERY small. We boarded a cruise later that week and the cruise room was almost the same size. The bathroom was a challenge because it was also very small. You couldn't take a shower without bumping into the walls. If the room would have been normal sized it would have upped the review to 3 or 4 stars. We also had to go down a small, dark, hallway to our room. Very disappointed because the other reviews made it sound like a good experience. The public areas like the pool and bar area were nice.

The wifi didn't work 90% of the time in the room unless we wanted to go sit in the bar area. The hotel had no parking and we had to park on the street around some homes that weren't exactly that great. The second night we saw a guy coming out of a building that didn't even look livable. Once in our room we felt safe, but not so much going to and from our car.

We regret not paying extra and staying in one of the nice touristy hotels in a touristy area. We had to drive to almost everything and fight to find a place to park.

On a positive note the entire staff was helpful and friendly. We would not stay here again and wouldn't recommend it either. If you do risk it make sure they book you in a LARGE room.

Room Tip: If you stay here make sure and get a large room or don't stay here.

At Wind Chimes is a really nice little place - unfussy, cute, clean. I almost never travel by myself, but I came here for a last-minute solo getaway and it did the trick. This is a great hotel for a woman traveling alone - I felt safe, it was quiet, and it was steps from the beach, the downtown strip, and the bus to Old San Juan. Helpful staff. Okay rooms. Friendly resident cat. Perfectly nice.

That said, I probably wouldn't return. Nothing to do with the hotel - it's just that Condado itself is nothing to write home about. I'm not into super-touristy party areas at all so I chose Condado for something a bit more low-key, which it was. However, the beach was not amazing. Pretty typical public beach - not filthy, but not super clean, pretty but nothing spectacular. Quiet on the weekdays but crowded with local teenagers on the weekends. The downtown strip is fairly commercial. Very suburban feel. I'd be happy to live here and be in proximity to the beach, but it's definitely not a prime Caribbean vacation spot.

Overall, At Wind Chimes is a really lovely, affordable boutique hotel that does its best given the unspectacular location.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on an upper floor...

My sister, best girlfriend and I just returned from a 'girl's trip' to Puerto Rico. We stayed @ At Wind Chimes. We loved it! When we arrived we had been upgraded from two rooms to an apartment with two bedrooms, a kitchen, dining area and living room. The one bath worked out well for us. There was plenty of hot water! A great thing when you have three women showering before an evening out. The private patio was wonderful. There was also a covered patio area three steps away with sofas and cushions. They also have an outdoor bar. I cannot say enough nice things. Housekeeping was excellent. The desk staff were friendly and extremely helpful. They even furnish beach towels and sand chairs for the beach, which only about 1/2 block away. Each room had a separate AC unit discreetly mounted on the wall and controlled by remote, as well as ceiling fans. The shower was beautiful. The pool is small, but is so beautiful! I love the waterfall. Native plants abound in this 'old world' feel hotel. I absolutely LOVED it! This was my first trip to Puerto Rico, but will not be my last. And I will be staying @ At Wind Chimes.

Room Tip: The apartments are the best!
