“Good Stay and Worthy of Good Reviews”
Reviewed 9 December 2013 via mobile

Highlights of my stay are as follows:
• nice comfortable bed - nice shower
• beautiful hotel - totally safe
• good local restaurants close by
• the beach was just so-so. It's not like the Virgin Island:)
• the hot tube was just warm (not hot)
• nice people working front desk
• overall - great value
• I rented a car from Target - Economy Rental (5 minutes away)
• there is a sister hotel across the street that has a pool and free coffee

Stayed December 2013, travelled solo

My wife and I stayed at the Acacia Boutique Hotel during the Thanksgiving holiday 2013. We stayed for a total of 7 nights. I can say, with hand on heart that we had a truly wonderful time.

What made our stay so special was in particular the great service we received from the staff. In particular "Marvellous" Margarita and Oscar whom assisted us with all of our day trips and activities in Puerto Rico. Truly wonderful!

I can honestly recommend the Acacia Boutique Hotel to anyone planning on visiting San Juan. The hotel is well situated, in new San Juan, which is a $17 cab ride to/from the old (walled) town.

The hotel is literally 50m from the beach. That being said depending on the weather, you may find that the beach, which is north facing, can sometimes have some medium swells.

I would recommend also to use the hotel as a base to see the rest of what PR has to offer. From Margarita and Oscar's recommendations we made a day trip to El Yunque national park. The trip was a 1/2 day trip which cost $60pp. Thankfully Oscar arranged the pick up from the hotel. Which was great.

We also took Oscar's recommendation to make an overnight trip to the Island of Vieques via a small local airplane ("puddle jumper") which cost only $70pp. But if you book it with some anticipation, you can get tix for less than $50. The plane seats 8 people and is a fun experience.

In Vieques we stayed at the amazing Blue Horizon hotel which is a sister hotel to the Acacia. As this stay was not on our original itinerary, Margarita very kindly arranged a room swap with the manager at the Blue Horizon, substituting 1 night of our 7 at the Acacia to stay at the Blue Horizon. I did not expect that at all. This demonstrates the attention and commitment to customer service of the staff at the Acacia, which looks after your every need. Truly amazing!
They went well beyond my expectations with that small but amazing act of generosity.

In Vieques we did a night kayak tour of the bio-luminescent lake, which was one of the most amazing experiences of our lives. Truly breathtaking!

The next morning we took another small plane to the Island of Culebra ($40pp) and spent the day exploring the beautiful and idyllic beaches the island has to offer. To get around we hired a small golf buggy from Jerry's car rental (across the road from the airport) which was really fun.

All in all we had an amazing time in Puerto Rico. Thanks largely in part to the wonderful staff at the Acacia Boutique Hotel.

A true testament of life's experiences and travel, I believe, is the human connection. And at the Acacia, we were made to feel like part of the family. So much so that when we left, Margarita gave me a big big hug! She has the most wonderful heart and is such a beautiful person both inside and out.

Thank you Margarita! You are like my Puerto Rican Mum!

P.S
We had room #105 which is the largest and most luxurious of the rooms at the hotel. I would highly recommend this room for people staying for an extended period. Although it doesn't have a balcony, it certainly makes up for it with regards to room space.

Room Tip: Get room #105. It's the largest room they have

Acacia was the perfect home base for our trip to Puerto Rico! It was a short drive from the airport and about half way in between there and Old San Juan. The accommodations were clean and well maintained. The hotel is intimate and you are able to get one-on-one service. We were able to hit the beach one last time before our flight because they have a complete bathroom with shower on the rooftop patio for just such an occasion. It is located in a residential area right on the beach so it was easy to walk to restaurants, bars, and convenience stores. We really enjoyed the fruit infused water readily available at the front desk and took full advantage of the spa pool on lazy nights.

The parking was a small driveway next to the sister hotel (which also has a larger, but not heated pool). We were afraid we would be blocked in at some point, but that never happened and it was worth it to not have the stress of finding street parking and remembering where the car was each time we left.

FYI, the red light switch is the circuit for the air conditioner so if you flip it off, you may think the a/c is broken - it's not :)

Though we didn't spend a lot of time in the room, the TV was huge and they had a great selection of channels.

Would definitely stay there again!

Room Tip: We stayed in 306 and loved it. It looks like 307 and 308 are a bit larger and they have their own ba...

The Acacia Boutique Hotel in San Juan was a delight! We only had one night to stay because we were leaving on a cruise the next day, but we are so happy we decided to stay at Acacia. The ladies at the front desk were extremely friendly and helpful, and the room (308) was great! They are at the end of the Condado area of San Juan, so it is a little bit of a walk to the restaurants and shops in Condado, but we felt safe and the walk was lovely. We would definitely stay there again!

Cute hotel very close to the beach. Very friendly front desk staff. I thought it was a nice touch to have cold water infused with lemons available at all times at the front desk. The bathroom doors need to be replaced to another type of door that can offer more privacy. Also, parking is very limited and available through purchase, but if you are patient enough, you can find some around the adjacent safe neighborhood.

Room Tip: Ask for a room close to the Jacuzzi

The rooms were clean, (we were a group of 3 couples), very nice jacuzzi, with a view of the beach, (although we wished the jets were working!), The hotel was more like you were at a spa hotel, not the usual hustle you have at other hotels. Beautiful beach 1 minute away. The service was always friendly and they truly took care of your needs as it you were always getting "tucked" in. We had a large room with a large tv. The only advice I'd request is that perhaps they can be more accodimating as to helping ensure seniors get a room on the 1st floor because the 3rd is just too difficult for them to go up and down....find a way to say "yes" to that one.

I will start by saying being so close to the beach is Acacia's strongest selling point! We enjoyed the look and feel of the building itself. We were happy to be checked in way earlier than expected. Rooms:small, small tv, the lock to the building also opens your room(???), hotel "restaurant" EXPENSIVE for dinner! Jacuzzi is pretty, BUT in a hot island I don't know who wants to be in HOT water. The website refers to it as a "pool"-misleading. The hotel never seemed to have someone around after certain hours(lack of cust service). King size bed: 2 twins pushed together! Only rooms ending w a"1" have fridge/micro-this should be advertised. On the last night we arrived to find another guest appearing agitated and on the lobby sofa. We were startled after 2am with this guest yelling all throughout the building and banging on doors! We had no one on site to help us and the attendant at Wind Chimes did very little to help! It is a scary situation when there is no security or surveillance! The next morning we received no apology or acknowledgement of the situation. Overall, average decent hotel BUT should be priced cheaper and should have guests' safety in mind!

Room Tip: Ask for a room w a double lock!
