Hotel Milano
Ranked #34 of 47 Hotels in San Juan
Reviewed 1 February 2014

This is the 3rd time that Hotel Milano has been our choice for accommodations. Perched in the heart of Old San Juan, Hotel Milano is an ideal location for seeing all of the historic sights and venues of the town. Everything is in walking distance of the Hotel. Restaurants, bars, Starbucks (if you like), I personally think the local coffee shops has better coffee. Both Forts, Casa Blanca, the Cathedral, and many more sights are also in walking distance.
The Hotel itself has always been a very neat and clean hotel. The staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable of the area and venues of Old San Juan and San Juan as a whole.
While you are there, you must meet the owner of the Hotel, "Juan", Juan is delightful, and always willing to offer a helping hand. I highly recommend this hotel. Best Hotel for the money in my opinion. Enjoy your stay in San Juan, and Hotel Milano!!!

Old San Juan is great but we have not had the best experience with their hotels. They are overpriced and you don’t receive a lot of comfort for your money. The Hotel Milano is typical in this respect.

Probably this hotel’s best feature is its location on Fortaleza Street. This is the main drag for shopping and dead center in Old San Juan. Another good feature is the friendly staff. They are welcoming and try to help in finding restaurants, ect. I asked for a quiet Standard Room with a lot of windows and was given 302 facing the back. Indeed it had lots of windows, lots of light, and was very clean. On checkout they will hold your bags under lock and chain for no charge. Each room has TV, Air, WiFi and bath.

Unfortunately there also some problems. I would describe the room furniture as 1980’s Florida motel. The beige rug was clean but quite worn. The faded pink/peach bed cover was well past its prime. The furniture was dated. For $182/night (including tax) this was a disappointment. We asked for a 4th pillow and were told there are no extra pillows in the hotel. Our only complaint about the service. Again you have to take this in the context of the level of hotels in Old San Juan. Yes, you can get a beautiful room at another hotel but it will cost 300-400 dollars a night.

In conclusion the question is how you want to spend your money. We love nice hotels but we also do not want to spend “an arm and a leg” on just a room. In this respect the Hotel Milano has its place.

A tip: get breakfast at the Café Mallorca a block away. It is fast, inexpensive and has wonderful Ham and Swiss Cheese Mallorcas.

Room Tip: Room 302 is a Standard double with lots of windows in a quiet location.

I've stayed at the Hotel Milano numerous times over the past seven years, and the experience is consistently fantastic! The staff have become good friends, and they take enormous care to ensure everyone's stay is as convenient and pleasurable as possible. The accommodations and service are all top-notch. I have stayed in a number of other hotels in Old San Juan, as have many friends. We all agree that Hotel Milano is the way to go!

We have chosen Puerto Rico as our honeymoon destination and started our great trip around the island with 4 days in Old San Juan.
Hotel Milano is just a perfect choice if you want to have an accomodation with absolutely great location, daily cleaning, friendly and polite service from the staff.
Rooms are basic, that's true, but as other said, you do not come to San Juan to stay in the Hotel.
Thank you for everything, will never forget and hope to return one day!

I don't see how the staff or the hotel could have been better. The staff was very helpful, the room was clean, and we liked the extra security of the locked door to each floor of rooms. The light breakfast atop the building was well worth the $5 extra. We enjoyed being able to open a window above Fortaleza street to hear and see the activity below. Wi Fi was variable, but there was a terminal readily available in the lobby. It was handy to have a nice cafe/bar about three doors down from the Milano; we ate there several times.

Room Tip: If you have any special needs, make them known and the staff will try to help! They definitely had...

Stayed there in Dec 2013 prior to our cruise. Caught taxi from airport. The street in front of the hotel was still closed ( I believe it is open now) so had to walk to the entrance. It was not a problem. Check in was simple and took the elevator to our room ( many hotels do not have elevators, so be careful if you have a lot of luggage). Walked into the room and started laughing as it was so small. However, the bed was really clean and comfortable. You could see where all the repairs to the bathroom were made, but it was also very clean and everything worked. The air conditioner could use a little work but again not a big problem. The staff was EXCEPTIONAL! Everyone was soooo helpful with suggestions for dining and sightseeing. Yes, you can walk to the pier, but with 3 suitcases we decided to take a taxi. The hotel employee called us a cab, told us what we would have to pay and helped take our suitcases to the end of the street to meet the taxi. The morning of embarkation, we had breakfast at the hotel--not huge but had enough for us as we didn't want a large breakfast. The desk clerk told us that we had the smallest room there and that they normally upgrade however there were no vacant rooms available. It was no problem for us. I highly recommend this hotel. If you want fancy, go somewhere else. We will always stay at this hotel while in Puerto Rico thanks to the wonderful staff.Mucho Gracias

The location was perfect in the heart of old San Juan. Reception very nice. They will keep bags for you in reception area chained up after checkout but need to have your bag locked. Rooms are very basic no frills but we didn't come to stay in the room. Perfect for one to two nights to explore San Juan. Hotel is located in the midst of restaurants and shops and in a safe area. I would stay again prior to cruise departure.
