“Wonderful location, a little run down”
Reviewed 23 February 2014

We loved this hotel when we stayed a year ago, but this year it seems slightly more run down and less clean (perhaps just the particular room we stayed in). The location is terrific in the heart of Old San Juan. The staff is helpful and friendly. Rooms are small, basic, comfortable and I think well-priced. The terrace on the roof is delightful and coffee good though breakfast mediocre. Rumor has it they are building a restaurant up there which would be great. Don't stay here if you want a modern, upscale hotel, but do stay here if you want a lovely, classic old building in a wonderful area.

This hotel is very well situated in the old town of San Juan. The staff was wonderful, very helpfull and attended to all of our requests. Highly recommended, and I'll stay here again for sure. Breakfast on the roof terrace is a bonus.

Room Tip: Choose a room off the main street and one with cross ventalation, so that you don't have to run...

I gave it a three but I think it's more of a two and a half. The room was fairly cheap but had really old carpet that looked and felt dirty, old bedding, and a a/c that wasn't great, plus the shower needed TLC. Very friendly and helpful staff. Old San Juan is good to visit for two days max in my opinion bc there's not a lot to do except restaurants, the cathedral, and the forts. Very impressed with the trendy restaurant culture that has popped up and how they still incorporate the Puerto Rican dishes as the anchor.

my group of 6 couples stayed here from Jan 30-Feb01 2014. the hotel itself is clean quiet and the rooms were adequate for our needs. the real plus was an elevator and the quietness. the price was favorable to any major city hotel rates and quite good compared to some of the other hotels in san juan that offered elevators and nightime quiet. we will definitely go there again. i might add that we returned to the hotel on our return off the Jewel of the Seas on Feb 8th and asked if we might be able to leave our many suitcases in the lobby while we spent the day in San Juan prior to flying home as we had many hours to spare. we were graciously allowed to leave our bags with the front desk at no charge!! they even returned a sweater that one of my group left behind the previous week!! great place to stay and great people to have take care of you while visiting this great city. i would comfortably refer anyone to this hotel.

Room Tip: pay the extra and get the Queen Rooms. the double room is very small

This is the 3rd time that Hotel Milano has been our choice for accommodations. Perched in the heart of Old San Juan, Hotel Milano is an ideal location for seeing all of the historic sights and venues of the town. Everything is in walking distance of the Hotel. Restaurants, bars, Starbucks (if you like), I personally think the local coffee shops has better coffee. Both Forts, Casa Blanca, the Cathedral, and many more sights are also in walking distance.
The Hotel itself has always been a very neat and clean hotel. The staff are friendly, helpful and knowledgeable of the area and venues of Old San Juan and San Juan as a whole.
While you are there, you must meet the owner of the Hotel, "Juan", Juan is delightful, and always willing to offer a helping hand. I highly recommend this hotel. Best Hotel for the money in my opinion. Enjoy your stay in San Juan, and Hotel Milano!!!

Old San Juan is great but we have not had the best experience with their hotels. They are overpriced and you don’t receive a lot of comfort for your money. The Hotel Milano is typical in this respect.

Probably this hotel’s best feature is its location on Fortaleza Street. This is the main drag for shopping and dead center in Old San Juan. Another good feature is the friendly staff. They are welcoming and try to help in finding restaurants, ect. I asked for a quiet Standard Room with a lot of windows and was given 302 facing the back. Indeed it had lots of windows, lots of light, and was very clean. On checkout they will hold your bags under lock and chain for no charge. Each room has TV, Air, WiFi and bath.

Unfortunately there also some problems. I would describe the room furniture as 1980’s Florida motel. The beige rug was clean but quite worn. The faded pink/peach bed cover was well past its prime. The furniture was dated. For $182/night (including tax) this was a disappointment. We asked for a 4th pillow and were told there are no extra pillows in the hotel. Our only complaint about the service. Again you have to take this in the context of the level of hotels in Old San Juan. Yes, you can get a beautiful room at another hotel but it will cost 300-400 dollars a night.

In conclusion the question is how you want to spend your money. We love nice hotels but we also do not want to spend “an arm and a leg” on just a room. In this respect the Hotel Milano has its place.

A tip: get breakfast at the Café Mallorca a block away. It is fast, inexpensive and has wonderful Ham and Swiss Cheese Mallorcas.

Room Tip: Room 302 is a Standard double with lots of windows in a quiet location.

I've stayed at the Hotel Milano numerous times over the past seven years, and the experience is consistently fantastic! The staff have become good friends, and they take enormous care to ensure everyone's stay is as convenient and pleasurable as possible. The accommodations and service are all top-notch. I have stayed in a number of other hotels in Old San Juan, as have many friends. We all agree that Hotel Milano is the way to go!
