We stayed here the first night of our vacation because we were flying to Culebra out of Isla Grande airport at 7:30 the following morning. We had issues with our room key opening our door for the 1st hour, but it eventually was resolved. Apparently there was an issue with the machine used to activate the card. The cafe was closed, as others have mentioned, but there were plenty of food options within a reasonable walking distance. These options include: local dining with local food, pizza place, ice cream, and a few others. There was also a grocery store and movie theatre located a couple blocks away. We stayed out until 9 and never felt in danger walking down the main road.

Overall the room was nice and spacious. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom was large. Not sure if we'd stay here again as it was the most expensive hotel of our trip and the cab ride to Isla Grande ended up being $15 anyway.

Stayed here last week.Sad that the cafe was closed, but otherwise,it's a nice hotel, and priced right. It has a great roof top deck, and is within walking distance to a couple of palces to eat.The cruise ship docks are about a mile away, and Old San Juan is about 5 miles away.
Staff was friendly, and yes, maid service is a little strange. All in all, I would stay there again.
Easier to walk stairs, then take elevator.

Older hotel, but well maintained. Pros: close to restaurants and grocery store, close to Viejo San Juan, and good size rooms with a small fridge. The view from the terrace is pretty awesome. Front desk employees are OK, they barely acknowledge you when you come in, but they are not rude, just a bit indifferent so it's not so bad. Cons: if you will be renting a car, make sure you know how to parallel park and you are willing to walk a bit as the hotel only has 4 parking spots and you will have to park on the side of the street. The room cleaning service is very odd as it seem there is no specific time frame the rooms are cleaned, our room was not cleaned the day prior to our departure and we only stayed in the room from 4.30pm till 6pm! Also, to get to the hotel it's a bit weird as it's a one way type of road so make sure you have a GPS to help you out. Slow elevator!!! Overall it was an OK stay, nothing bad, but nothing overly pleasant either that will make me want to go back. Good price for what you get.

Lovely, older hotel in an older part of San Juan, close to Old SJ. The room was very spacious (2 beds, a couch, table and chairs, TV in a wardrobe, microwave and refrigerator — you could LIVE in here!) and clean, free wifi, very helpful staff. We were on the front but didn't notice much noise (also on a Sunday night). There are several restaurants down the block, and a movie theater. Great bargain for $122/night.

We chose this hotel for staying two nights before our cruise, searching for a better price and a decent hotel. We were surprised by the unreasonable high prices in San Juan hotels in the winter months. we finally selected Hotel Miramar with good reviews in a less than $200/night range. We were not dissapointed: the rooms are spacious, clean, and the staff very friendly and helpful. The day of our arrival, Jonathan at the desk managed to book us on an awesome trip to the rain forest (El Yunche National Park, greatly recommended). Thank you, Jonathan for your help! Our stay was very agreeable and we would gladly return to the island of Puerto Rico for more sightseeing, and probably returning to stay at Miramar Hotel.

Needed a place to stay one night before a cruise. this was fine. Clean. OK location. Helpful staff. Phone was "missing." Bathroom sink handle broken. But otherwise ok. Very comfy bed and plentiful, fluffy pillows. In a strange area, but we found a great little bistro called Lima down the road on Ponce de Leon. It worked out to be an OK place for the night before a cruise.

Our room was large and very clean, a welcome experience after having been trapped in a tiny cruise ship cabin for 7 nights. Room 601 looked out across the lagoon, which was very scenic but a bit noisy since it also faced the main street, Ponce de Leon. We were there on a Sunday night and it was fairly noisy so I imagine a Saturday night would be much noisier much later into the night. If you like to turn in early ask for a room away from the main street. The beds were nothing to write home about, kind of hard, but the linens were clean and that's the important fact for us. I don't care how comfortable the bed is, if the linens are doubtful it's a total turnoff.

It worked well for us because there were lots of restaurants within walking distance, a market, drugstore, post office, etc. A safe neighborhood to be in, as far as I know. We never felt in danger walking around the area. There are a couple of abandoned buildings close by, most notably the Hotel Americana next door which is boarded up, but it's not a bad area. It's easy to catch a bus to Old San Juan, or catch a taxi to the airport.

We had excellent Wi-Fi in our room but we heard other guests complaining about their spotty reception. The elevator was a wee bit slow but this is not a surprise in an older building. I almost forgot to mention the terrace on the top of the hotel, which has wonderful views across the city. They have a nice gathering area, table & chairs, under a cover as well. We recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the street for a quieter night's sleep.
