There are many positives for the hotel-the staff is warm, courteous, and professional; the wonderful location in Old San Juan; the free continental breakfast; and the stylish decor. That said, we had one of our worst hotel stays at Cervantes. First off, the rooms are VERY loud. Between the street noise and the doors banging in the hallway, even my husband who is an incredibly deep sleeper could not stay asleep. But what truly ruined our stay was the fact that the toilet overflowed in the middle of the night. Dirty toilet water (tons of it) flowed into the bathroom and the hallway outside the bathroom. There was no housekeeping services until morning, no offer to have us change rooms, and no reduced rate. We were also told that this happens from time to time throughout the hotel.

We sincerely apologize for the poor experience at our hotel. During the weekends, Old San Juan gets plenty of visitors for a great night out. Many restaurants, shops and bars are open until later because of this. We have the privilege of being located on a great strip close to many of those but not all guests enjoy this. For those, we are more than happy to accommodate in floors higher up where the noise is less. We can assure you that the Toilet situation is not one that happens frequently if not at all. Again, we apologize for whole situation.

Thank you for pointing out our best asset, our staff!

We had a great suite with a big balcony. But the view was so so... Of a parking lot,....
But the room was great and modern, the only thing that needs to be changed is the carpet.
The breakfast was very good and included.
Great hotel in old san juan especially if you're taking a cruise.
But it is quite noisy outside during saturday nights (people partying and shouting untill 2:30 am)
The sevice of the staff is excellent.
The location is great, in the middle of old san juan and walking distance to the port.

You know what you're getting with huge hotel chains - boring, but passable...usually. We wanted interesting and found it in the Chateau Cervantes in Old San Juan!

We got two rooms - one for myself and my husband, and a second room for our adult kids. The standard rooms are tiny, but very cool. The room we got for our kids was bigger and had a sofa bed which worked out just fine. Bathrooms are contemporary and really nice! The continental breakfast was not as good - I think it's tough to have crispy baked goods with the island humidity.

The people who run Chateau Cervantes are all warm and friendly. Our plane arrived in San Juan a bit late but we were greeted really nicely by Jonathan who showed us to our rooms and made us feel welcome.

Best of all was waking up with a view of the narrow old street outside our window and being right where we wanted to be. The staff held our luggage for the day while we walked around the old city. It was great!

2 more things:

1 - There are 2 parking garages across the street from the hotel which is on a one way street. The second lot you come to, the one further west, is less expensive.

2 - The Cafe Puerto Rico, right around the corner from the hotel on Calle O'Donnell was great! Loved the Yucca Mofongo!

Requested room with a view (king suite). View was parking garage. Noise from street traffic was deafening. No phone or wi fi in suite, nor additional TV in second sleeping area as had been advertised when booking. Switch on bedside light was not functional. Door to shower would not close. Manager came to room to force shut. Restaurant was closed. End result was 15 percent discount. Manager was apologetic but unable to adjust the $250 cost more than 15 percent. Very uncomfortable night. Sarah E.

Sarah E.,

We sincerely apologize for the poor experience at our hotel. We take our guests requests very seriously and provided you with the room you requested. Old San Juan is known for its vibrant nightlife, mostly during the weekends. Our hotel is located on a street that provides plenty of places to eat drink and shop. They are all usually open until later and we know that the noise level can get out of control sometimes. We have plenty of guests that enjoy this and for those who don’t, we provide them with a quieter room on the top floors. Unfortunately, the second TV in the living area had broken a few hours before you arrived. Thankfully, we’ve been able to replace it with a new one. Our Maintenance Team has been informed of the issues you faced and will be resolving them promptly.

We hope you give us a second chance if you come back to our beautiful island!

The Hotel Cervantes in centrally located in Old San Juan within walking distance on most of the local attractions and eateries. Very helpful and pleasant front desk staff, especially Michelle who gave us wonderful information on attractions to see and places to eat. Our king suite was awesome. Very large suite facing the Recinto Sur St. with nice balcony. Had large master bath with spa sized steam shower and dual shower heads ( handheld and rainfall) and a bidet. The girls slept on a pull out sleeper sofa that was very comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel. Would have been awesome if it had a pool.

Room Tip: The suite faced the street and at times you could hear the traffic and nightlife outside, If you don...

My wife and I took a cruise leaving from San Juan so we decided to arrive a few days early and enjoy Old San Juan. We researched many places and decided to give Chateau Cervantes a try. We were 100% satisfied. The location was perfect for shops, restaurants, and for the short walk (about 2 blocks) down hill to the cruise terminal. The staff was extremely helpful with shops and restaurant suggestions. We were also able to leave our luggage their until we could board the ship on sailing day. We had a standard room on the third floor with a balcony. The A/C worked great - it was 60 degrees in the room and we loved it! The room was very comfortable. There was noise in the morning from the dumpsters being emptied, but that is part of life, and the hotel can't control that. If we ever have the chance to return to Old San Juan, we will again stay at the Cervantes!

My wife and I arrived in Old San Juan one day early for our 30th anniversary cruise so we could see the sites of the city. We stayed at The Chateau Cervantes for several reasons. The big hotel across the street from the pier was booked up. So we searched and came up with this quaint 12 room hotel. It was Awesome. Very clean, very nice employees and well located. Only one and a half blocks from the Carnival Pier 4 and we were able to walk to all the sites in Old San Juan. The Castle, Fort El Morro etc. Very convenient location. The lady at the front desk was very helpful as where we could eat dinner. We will stay here again when we go back to San Juan.

Room Tip: I believe most of their rooms have a balcony. I'll include a couple of pictures from our balcony...
