“Great location!”
Reviewed 3 May 2014

We were very happy with our stay at La Concha. We really liked the different pool options and the fact that you didn't need a bracelet to enter and exit the areas. The whole atmosphere was less stuffy then our stay last year in one of the Is La Verde resorts. Really liked that the pools were open 24 hours and there was a security guard posted all night. The beach is lit up all night so it's also safe to go in the ocean for a late night swim. Lots of food and bar options within walking distance. I was a little disappointed with the casino. I understand there are slow nights (Mon & Tues) but there was a good crowd on Wed, Thur and Friday night and there wasn't a Poker game going on. The only announcement requesting a game was when I requested one. I think if you have a game start time and had it posted people would know when to come over to the table.

Room Tip: We had a city view but it was loud and upgraded to an ocean room on the second night...more expensiv...

I stayed at La Concha Resort during a vacation in San Juan, Puerto Rico. La Concha is in a great location: right on the beach and with great restaurants, bars and a great night scene surrounding. The hotel is chic and modern, there is a bar in the lobby with access to the pool and seating area. At night there is live music and a great crowd in the lobby bar. There is also access to the casino from there. Our hotel room was very clean and I really enjoyed the waterfall shower head! If possible get a room with ocean view, it is truly gorgeous. The food at the hotel is delicious but a bit pricy, but there are great food options outside the hotel (across the street). La Concha will be my "home away from home" on my next trip to PR.

What really made this stay special is the staff, very accommodating and friendly. We were greeted immediately when walking into the hotel, asked how everything was going and if we needed help. I wanted to give special recognition to the valet and bell boys! All were very engaging and helpful! I also wanted to recognize Antonio M. and Alfonso G. for making us feel at home and like we were among friends. Keep it up!

There were 2 selections of rooms: ocean view and city view. Lots of guests were split between each side. Didn't get a chance to see the city view rooms, but heard the rooms in that tower were newer. Ocean view rooms were a bit older, but the beach and ocean view really made up for it. Before you entered your room, you could see the city. We were on the 8th floor. Our door didn't seem to shut well and one day of our stay, the cleaning staff left the door slightly ajar.

Spent time in the bridal suite. Top floor corner with massive open deck. Spacious and awesome. The deck seemed to almost be the same size as the suite itself. Great hot tub in one corner of the deck, although the common complaint was the water was next to scalding. The couple held a few casual get togethers and it easily fit 30+ people.

Easy walk to the pool and the beach. One day, 3 of us ladies, decided to get a massage. One of the girls made a reservation. They set up a space off to the side of the adult pool and brought in massage tables for an outdoor massage. I believe those folks were contracted by the hotel (not 100% sure). 2 out of 3 got good massages. The massage was sort of in the open, but they kept us covered up with a sheet.

Great location, love the accessibility to the beach. High end shops down the block for those who feel like splurging.

Room Tip: Go with the ocean views!

My family and I recently stayed at La Concha for a week. Previously, I have stayed at the property for business a few times and given a hectic schedule, I never had the opportunity to enjoy the amenities. I must say it was a pleasure to do so on this trip.

First, we decided to stay in San Juan versus a more remote resort for this trip. La Concha's location is great. Decent shopping around, restaurants (good lunch spots), and a short taxi to great dinner spots. We ate dinner at different restaurants each night and all of them were fantastic. We did a lot of research on our own, but the concierge in La Concha was very helpful both for restaurant recommendations and for things to do.

The staff is great. Very friendly and accommodating. Upon arrival Stephanie checked us in with a very friendly greeting. I must also mention Esteban Hernandez, an employee in the Ocean Lounge. He deserves recognition for being extremely friendly and service oriented. The staff on the beach who assist with lounge chair and umbrella placement work hard with a great attitude (Nice job, Nestor!) Finally, we had excellent Mojito cocktails and fantastic conversation with Ahmed at the Perla bar.

The beach adjacent to the hotel is not private. In fact, I believe that the only private beach in the San Juan area is at the Caribe Hilton (we've stayed there and prefer La Concha). It was a bit of a nuisance only a couple of times, since we really wanted to sit on the beach and relax without any loud people or other issues.

In summary, it was a great stay largely because of the condition of the property (clean and "hip") as well as the friendliness of the staff.

Room Tip: As others note, the "city side" of the hotel is noisy at night, given the fact that it is...

La Concha was a perfect way to see PR before a cruise . We asked for a quiet room and received one even though it was not ocean view. It is a good choice if you do not want a vacation with children -made for a more sophisticated and relaxing vacation. We wanted an adult atmosphere as it was spring break and other hotels were full of children.

My wife and I enjoyed a wonderful stay celebrating our two year anniversary this past February in Puerto Rico at the Concha Marriott. On our previous visit to Puerto Rico we gravitated to the very cool scene at the Concha, both at the pool and the lobby bar. Despite being Starwood preferred members we really prefer the location of La Concha better, right in the Condado region and on the beach.
One particular employee – Julian Rivera – a bellman there stood out heads and shoulders above the rest. Always smiling, extra helpful, and a genuinely nice person Julian deserves special recognition. Thank you Julian!

We expected just a little 5 star treatment as it was our honeymoon. Our experience here in puerto was overall 2 out of 5 (poor experience). La Concha is a "2" only because the room was clean and bug free. La Concha internal restaurant food was good but costly ($18 for a cheeseburger). This was the best food item we had while on our 7 day/6 night honeymoon. Best experience Bacardi factory only because we went with a couple of the ladies we while in Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico is definitely not a place I would recommend for a honeymoon. We were not shown in marital bliss love here at all! No one asked us how our stay was because they were so busy all the time. When we checked in I told the front guest staffer that it was our honeymoon he said well welcome... can I see your ID. No Congratulations, no upgrades, no special recognition or nothing. I am very disappointed in my stay at LaConcha. It appeared to be a lot of business travelers (which this hotel may be better suited for). LaConcha does sit on the beach however the "red" flag which indicates dangerous conditions was up the entire 7 days we were there. We had to travel to another beach in Isla Verde just to get in the water and jet ski.

Also, do not get ripped off like we did on paying for tours and excursions through Laconcha Concierge. Some of the tours like the rain forest and Bacardi factory are FREE however we were charges $62 per person for Rainforest and told the barcardi factory was $55 but later found out from a local that is was FREE we would just have to pay for a taxi over to the location (which only cost us $30).

In total, we spent about $500 in tours and excursions which I felt was a rip off considering some should have been free. It is very saddening to experience what we did on our honeymoon.

I would have rather had a honeymoon in Atlanta had I known this would be like this :-(

Another thing is that crime has heightened in San Juan (related to crack & cocaine) and police officers were dispersed every couple of blocks. This could be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it. We didn't do any nighttime activities as we knew we would need a cab to travel a distance and secondly didn't feel safe.

My husband felt that we were in a nice motel 8(he quotes "we didn't even have a microwave").
