We were in town celebrating a milestone anniversary, wanted to get it right, and in the process probably read a few too many Trip Advisor reviews of La Concha. Let's set the record straight on a few key matters.
Dining pricing is on the expensive side, but no more expensive than any east coast urban beach resort hotel. Most Trip Advisor pricing complainers seem to have written very few reviews, and / or are looking for deals that don't exist and aren't reasonable. That said, we enjoyed breakfast at Delicias one morning. Our Platinum status afforded us a 30% discount. (We didn't seek or receive any special Marriott Platinum status other than that one meal.) The pricing was fine, the service was slow, and the food was delicious. We enjoyed four dinners, one breakfast and one lunch out of the hotel, all within two blocks. All were very good to excellent and all were reasonably priced. Pannes, next door, is an affordable breakfast option, but regardless, that's where you want to grab your morning coffee or afternoon iced coffee...probably the best coffee we have ever enjoyed...anywhere.
We did not encounter any loud parties or obnoxious guests. The adult pool always was adult only. One out of five elevators was always out of service, but we never encountered any delays. There simply is nothing to complain about here at La Concha.
I want to emphasize a couple things that the gazillions of other reviews didn't emphasize. The mid-19th Century architecture is wonderful. If the concern of an old room is bothersome, spend a little extra and book a room in the newer Suite Tower. Our 1-bedroom suite directly fronted the beach. It was roomy and clean. The king bed was as comfortable as any Marriott bed we have ever slept in. We loved the employees' service uniforms. The all-white outfits, men and women, reminded us a bit of colonial British colony hotels from 150 years ago. Nice touch. Cabanas are available for rental at the Ocean Pool. I don't recall a single review mentioning that. $150 bought a large shady cabana with sheets, towels, and impeccable waiter/waitress service, along with a $150 food and beverage credit. What a great deal! This is where we lollygagged on our anniversary for the entire day. Maria and Ricardo took very good care of us.
We highly recommend La Concha Renaissance without hesitation.
