“Great Weekend”
Reviewed 24 October 2012

My girlfriend and I usually stay at chain hotels when we spend time out of NYC. We decided to stay somewhere else for a change, and we don't regret it one bit. It was a very pleasant experience, staying at Coqui del Mar. We stayed in the room called el pescado. It was bigger than a hotel room, has a full kitchen and live fish in the toilet bowl tank! It was one of the coziest places we've ever stayed and will definitely go back again. We met Noyda and she is so welcoming. The room was very cozy and it has everything you need like a hotel including wifi and a mac mini! Coqui del Mar is truly a great place to stay. There is no doubt that we will stay there again during our next visit to Puerto Rico.

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay in El Pescado, a roomy and open apartment. Besides the unique bathroom fish tank, the apartment had everything you could want -- including flat screen TV, Apple computer, and ipod dock/CD player/radio. The bed was very comfy, and the a/c worked just fine. Noyda was so helpful! We would definitely stay there again.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Coqui del Mar when visiting Puerto Rico for the very first time. We loved it, Noyda and Neal are very friendly, easy going and so very helpful! We loved our little room (El Cangrejo) and the steam shower was fabulous (I would go back just for that!). Full Size bed took some getting used to, would have preferred queen but we knew when we booked, will choose a bigger room next time :o) We did have a few issues with the air conditioner but Neal was on it right away and all was good.

The location is amazing, close to so much but in such a nice quiet residential location. So close to the beach (just a block away) with everything you could possibly need for your relax on the beach available to use. We didn't use the BBQ area but the patio and hot tub were wonderful after a long day of sightseeing and adventure.

We would definitely go back to both Puerto Rico and the Coqui del Mar. The people, the weather, the beach, everything was just so wonderful we are definitely considering retiring there!

Thank you Noyda and Neal for an excellent stay, we enjoyed our evening chats with you and we'll be back for more!

Room Tip: El Cangrejo is small, it's comfortable but compact. Bathroom is spectacular! Kitchen very funct...

My boyfriend and I just got back from a week long vacation in Puerto Rico. We stayed at the Coqui del Mar, in the room called El Sol. It was our first time in Puerto Rico, and part of the reason why I fell in love with the island was because of our accommodations.

This guesthouse is great! We were both very happy with the El Sol because we loved the private, open gated patio that was part of our room. That was the best part of the unit. Bed was comfortable, the steam shower and main bathroom were fantastic, and a nice sized kitchen that we sadly didn't get to use much (since we had so much Latin American cuisine to try)!
Powerful air conditioners and a nice big tv were also great, for the down times after an adventure.

Pretty much anything most people may need can be found here. Fully stocked kitchen, beach equipment, and bug spray, for example. It is obvious that a lot of thoughtfulness is put into this guesthouse, which is greatly appreciated.

Very close to the beach, which is absolutely beautiful. If you continue down towards Ocean Park Beach, the sand is finer and the beach area is bigger.

Noyda was great and very helpful. We met Neal just once, and he was very friendly. The neighborhood that the inn is located in is gorgeous as well. I loved walking and driving all around it.

Coqui del Mar is fantastic and I very much hope that one day I will be able to go back.

Room Tip: El Sol has a private, gated patio attached. Very nice. I loved that hammock chair.

A couple of weeks ago my husband and I went to Puerto Rico for the first time. We spent three nights in El Mango, their smallest unit, and we loved it. It was just what we needed for our budget and more. Very clean, well organized and equipped with everything needed for the beach, comfortable bed, good AC and ceiling fan, excellent use of space, non pretentious and extremely environmentally friendly. Coqui del Mar and the neighborhood made us feel we were locals. This is the closest you will be to feeling like you are a Puerto Rican. After we arrived and walked less than a minute to the gorgeous sunset over the calm Caribbean I could not believe our good luck. Puerto Ricans are very educated, culturally involved, kind, respectful and extremely welcoming. Noyda greeted us in the early morning and recommended driving to Ponce (South coast of Puerto Rico) for the day because we wanted to drive around other parts of the island before going to Old San Juan. It was an excellent recommendation. We are definitely coming back with our parents and renting one of the larger units as soon as we plan another vacation. We definitely recommend renting the smallest car you can, and getting a GPS to save yourself time and enjoying Puerto Rico a hundred percent. Mil gracias y un fuerte abrazo Noyda! Nos veremos de nuevo.

Room Tip: El Mango is excellent for budget travelers: couples with no kids or solo travelers.

My best friend and I recently spent 10 fun filled days in Puerto Rico. This was our third time staying at Coqui Del Mar and this place never disappoints. Noyda & Neal are so welcoming and treat you like family. The rooms are very cozy and inviting and are equipped with everything you need for your vacation. Sunscreen...check.....beach towels.....check......coffee maker......check. Coqui Del Mar is within walking distance to many great restaurants and of course.....the beach! Coqui Del Mar has a beautiful courtyard, jacuzzi, and themed rooms. Coqui Del Mar is also eco-friendly and very affordable. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and have a kitchen (except the studio). If you are looking for a relaxing vacation then this is place to be. The next time I return to Puerto Rico I will definitely be staying at Coqui Del Mar!!

Arrival was mid day to a peaceful quiet street with mature canopy (fern and fauna) leading to a most charming destination. The room, La Concha (The shell) was ready, with cotton sheets, clean updated bathroom and ceiling fan going. The color tones and furnishings in the room nice and eclectic and all working. Loved the little seperate kitchen. The birds, distant street noises and occassional barking dog was just fine. At night, close the windows if you want and power up the cool A/C. You just drop in on a beachy sophisticated architecturally pleasing neighborhood with no fuss. And easy to park a car out front. The walk around the corner to Ocean Park beach leading to an open beach was amazing. Mid week was perfect and no crowds. Drop the towel and into the perfect temp Ocean. If you want you can jog in the park or play tennis. Just the right amount of activity in this athletic park across from main beach / ocean that gives a little peek at the local culture. Everything moved at a slower pace. Area well protected too for those squeamish about security. Friendly law enforcement in cars, on motorcycles and bikes round the clock. Easy trip to stores, eateries and groceries. Coque Del Mar's great reviews are now fully understood. Last of three nights we were in El Cangrejo (The Crab) room, next door to La Concha and just as comfortable. And last but not at all least... our hosts Noyda and Neal most gracious and accomodating. I did not want to leave. also.... love the cross ventilation of the rooms with windows in bed area, bathroom and kitchen. important to me. And better yet... non smoking rooms. :). back garden patio nice and a little more meandering behind the other side of building is the Jacuzzi with beachy, calm and airy mood. Enjoy Puerto Rico and all that has earned it the title: Isla Del Encanto!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
If you want to experience Puerto Rico like a local while still having all the conveniences of home, this is your place. We make you feel at home. You have private personal space (all rooms have private kitchens and private bathrooms), while in a beach side neighborhood setting away from the crowded tourist areas. You will experience some of the best Puerto Rico has to offer while living like a local, visiting the restaurants frequently visited by locals (no chain restaurants near us). We are in the Ocean Park beach area of San Juan, in between Old San Juan and the international airport. We are 3 minutes walk to the nearest beach. Ocean Park beach is one of the locals's favoites, and also a preferred spot for kite surfing and windsurfers. We are 5 minutes walk to the tourist bus route (which goes to the casinos and to Old San Juan) and walkable to restaurants and grocery stores. Each of our units have full kitchen, free WiFi, cable TV/DVD, Apple TV, in room safes, and an Ipod player. We strive to provide more than expected, and I think you will find that with us, from the beach chairs, or bicycles to the in room safes, there are never extra charges. One of the best things about us is our live in management, Noyda and Neal, who call Coqui del Mar home and welcome you as if it is your home as well. They are local experts and can help you find a great restaurant, plan a special event, or enjoy a chat. Our courtyard, bar-b-que and jacuzzi are great for meeting other guests. If you are looking for personal service and a unique, eco-friendly (we have solar hot water supplemented by electric, ceiling fans supplemented by ACs, and offer recycling), and a clean guest house for a reasonable price, then check us out. We are not a Marriott and offer our own unique sense of quirky and intimate Puerto Rico. Come join us. *Our free parking is on a public street in front of our location. Not difficult to find a spot, but it is not designated parking for our guest house and is open to all. * Airport transportation acknowledges that there is taxi service from the airport. **Free parking is on street parking ... more   less
