“Very good lodging at a great price”
Reviewed 10 October 2009

We stayed at the Coqui del Mar for 3 nights prior to a cruise. Overall, I'd say it is DEFINITELY worth checking out. Neal and Noyda are absolutely fantastic!!!! We've stayed at a lot of places, and I don't think we've ever had anyone make us feel so welcome. Noyda even gave us some of their coffee until we could get some of our own. They try hard to supply whatever the guests need, from umbrellas for the rain to beach chairs to answering questions about the area to, well, you get the idea.
We stayed in the "La Concha" room, and it was nice. All appliances worked, the ac kept it cool, and the TV was a nice feature. My main complaint was no hot water. Neal said it was due to the fact it had been cloudy, as they use solar heating. Just keep that in mind if you go in the rainy season.
The location was both good and bad. The immediate area around the hotel is a bit rough. Lots of rubbish and junked cars, and the houses all have walls, iron gates, and barred windows. It was a little unnerving to walk through. Weekend nights can also be loud. However, the people we actually met were pleasant, and we never had problems. Just use some caution, and you should be fine.
The good part is that it is so close to good restaurants (Kasalta's and Case Dente come to mind), a very decent beach, a pleasant park, and the bus stop. The bus is the way to go in San Juan. You can see a lot of the city for 75 cents each way. Just remember to take change, as they don't do paper money.
I would certainly recommend the hotel. Keep in mind the area and the hot water situation, but the rest is good. It is a truly great value (I think we paid $70-80 per night or so), and you won't find nicer hosts. Enjoy!

This was a wonderful quaint place to stay at during our week long trip to Puerto Rico. Noyda and Neal are a wonderful couple and very helpful with anything we needed whether it was extra pillows or directions to their favorite haunts. And the location! One block from the beach, about a 10 minute walk to a wonderful bakery and very close to the highways if you want to go anywhere on the island. They are updating the place as well so everything can get even better. I recommend this place for groups or families as it provides a bit more privacy than hotels and the whole family can stay together in one unit without being on top of each other.

We had 3 days at the end of September. We wanted a comfortable, affordable place to stay that would be close to Old San Juan (for my husband and me) and close to the beach (for our 12-year-old son and me). We found it in Coqui del Mar in the Ocean View neighborhood of San Juan. Everything you read on their website is true. They are close to the airport, close to restaurants and close to the beach (literally one block). We have a clean, well-furnished 2-bedroom, 2-bathroom condo with a full kitchen and a lovely courtyard. All the amenities needed are here - towels, beach toys, tv, etc. In addition, Noyda and Neal have been more than helpful. We return home relaxed and rejuvenated.

The Coqui Del Mar is nice little condo complex one block from the beach. The property managers Neal and Noyda were very cool and willing to help with anything we needed. We stayed in the La Luna room that was recently renovated and it was a nice room, it has a full kitchen but the bathroom is on the small side, nothing terrible just cozy. It is in between Condado and Isla Verde, not far from either one, with in walking distance. The streets are safe and the public buses are a good option to go into Old San Juan or other outer areas. We found the beach near Coqui del Mar to be very nice, not very crowded and has a great view.

We came across this rental via trip advisor & didn't know what to expect. We are glad we chose this place. I have visited puerto rico many of times and am always looking for places where its away from the tourist areas & i found it here. The rental is tucked away in ocean park & only 1 block away from the beach. Down the street was a big park with a track, basketball courts, tennis courts, etc....Also, there were restaraunts/bars/shopping centers within walking distance. We felt really safe since it was in a gated community. Plenty of beach activitities to do nearby. The rental had all the amentities for the beach such as chairs, towels, boogey boards, snorkeling equipment, coolers, etc....We rented out the 3 bedroom/3bathroom unit & boy was it spacious. It even had its own front porch which was nice to sit in at night. All the bedrooms had ac & all the rooms had ceiling fans. The wifi is a must for me which was provided. There was a big flat screen tv w/ cable in the living room. We enjoyed the stay!!! Nodya was an excellent host, always asked if we needed anything & was always readily available. This is an excellent place if you are tight on a budget & looking for all the amentities found in a home. I highly recommend this stay to anyone visiting Puerto Rico.....

This is a lovely place to rent if you are looking to enjoy Puerto Rico without the tourist twist. The Coqui Del Mar is a home away from home. The beach is exactly a few steps away from the guest house, the bus is close and you can walk or ride the bikes to restaurants, the supermarket and nigthlife. Nuyda was an excellent host along with her brother Jr. The accomodations were clean, there is airconditioning, and a wonderful quaint place to enjoy Puerto Rico. I can't wait to return and will recommend the guest house to others. Thank you Robert, Nuyda and Junior...See you very soon!- The Ramirez Group from Virginia.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
If you want to experience Puerto Rico like a local while still having all the conveniences of home, this is your place. We make you feel at home. You have private personal space (all rooms have private kitchens and private bathrooms), while in a beach side neighborhood setting away from the crowded tourist areas. You will experience some of the best Puerto Rico has to offer while living like a local, visiting the restaurants frequently visited by locals (no chain restaurants near us). We are in the Ocean Park beach area of San Juan, in between Old San Juan and the international airport. We are 3 minutes walk to the nearest beach. Ocean Park beach is one of the locals's favoites, and also a preferred spot for kite surfing and windsurfers. We are 5 minutes walk to the tourist bus route (which goes to the casinos and to Old San Juan) and walkable to restaurants and grocery stores. Each of our units have full kitchen, free WiFi, cable TV/DVD, Apple TV, in room safes, and an Ipod player. We strive to provide more than expected, and I think you will find that with us, from the beach chairs, or bicycles to the in room safes, there are never extra charges. One of the best things about us is our live in management, Noyda and Neal, who call Coqui del Mar home and welcome you as if it is your home as well. They are local experts and can help you find a great restaurant, plan a special event, or enjoy a chat. Our courtyard, bar-b-que and jacuzzi are great for meeting other guests. If you are looking for personal service and a unique, eco-friendly (we have solar hot water supplemented by electric, ceiling fans supplemented by ACs, and offer recycling), and a clean guest house for a reasonable price, then check us out. We are not a Marriott and offer our own unique sense of quirky and intimate Puerto Rico. Come join us. *Our free parking is on a public street in front of our location. Not difficult to find a spot, but it is not designated parking for our guest house and is open to all. * Airport transportation acknowledges that there is taxi service from the airport. **Free parking is on street parking ... more   less
