This hotel was a stop along our trip around/across Puerto Rico. We stayed here for two nights, drove around the island for three and stayed another three nights. There are a few suites but we staff in la conche. It was a cute, small suite with a queen bed (a little hard for our liking), a kitchen and tiny bathroom. All the amenities you can ask for are availalbe (tv, alarm clock, wifi, beach towels, coolers, beach chairs, water filter, a/c, and recycling. The guest house is one street off the beach front and in a gated community and centraly located between Condado and Isle Verde. Parking availalble on the street for free, but it gets packed on both sides. So much so that someone scrapped the front end of my rental can during the night. Garbage men collect early in the morning, but other than that it was pretty quiet at night. The managers are friendly and helpfull. We were driving and it was easy to find our way to the guest house and around san juan. If you like walking, it is an 8 mile walk to the further fort (Castillo de San Felipe del Morro but there is bus that also takes you all the way there if you prefer not to drive. Condado and Isle Verde appear to be the main tourist hotel areas and are busy with shops and restaurants. The high end shops are in Condado which apear to be a popular place to walk and jog. Old San Juan is easy to walk around will lots of little shops (it next to the cruise ship pier) but a difficult place to find parking any time of the day. Police are everywhere, all the time in San Juan and safety was never a concern. We ate dinner at Inca Chicken (highly recommed it, great local cuisine and friendly staff), Che's (which despite the name does not theme itself on Che himself), it more of a steak house and Levis, which was surprising delicious despite the carefree appearance of the restaurnt and less than friendly staff. Wifi internet access was available and worked great. From the guest house we drove to the Baccardi run factory for the free tour. Probably the best and most education thing we did in Puerto Rico. We also drove to El Yunque with the intention of hiking, but most trails were closed as was the look out tower. We did get a chance to enjoy the walk down to La Mina waterfall.
- Official Description (provided by the hotel):
- If you want to experience Puerto Rico like a local while still having all the conveniences of home, this is your place. We make you feel at home. You have private personal space (all rooms have private kitchens and private bathrooms), while in a beach side neighborhood setting away from the crowded tourist areas. You will experience some of the best Puerto Rico has to offer while living like a local, visiting the restaurants frequently visited by locals (no chain restaurants near us). We are in the Ocean Park beach area of San Juan, in between Old San Juan and the international airport. We are 3 minutes walk to the nearest beach. Ocean Park beach is one of the locals's favoites, and also a preferred spot for kite surfing and windsurfers. We are 5 minutes walk to the tourist bus route (which goes to the casinos and to Old San Juan) and walkable to restaurants and grocery stores. Each of our units have full kitchen, free WiFi, cable TV/DVD, Apple TV, in room safes, and an Ipod player. We strive to provide more than expected, and I think you will find that with us, from the beach chairs, or bicycles to the in room safes, there are never extra charges. One of the best things about us is our live in management, Noyda and Neal, who call Coqui del Mar home and welcome you as if it is your home as well. They are local experts and can help you find a great restaurant, plan a special event, or enjoy a chat. Our courtyard, bar-b-que and jacuzzi are great for meeting other guests. If you are looking for personal service and a unique, eco-friendly (we have solar hot water supplemented by electric, ceiling fans supplemented by ACs, and offer recycling), and a clean guest house for a reasonable price, then check us out. We are not a Marriott and offer our own unique sense of quirky and intimate Puerto Rico. Come join us. *Our free parking is on a public street in front of our location. Not difficult to find a spot, but it is not designated parking for our guest house and is open to all. * Airport transportation acknowledges that there is taxi service from the airport. **Free parking is on street parking ... more less
