“Interesting room, but great service!”
Reviewed 23 August 2012

As with many we stayed at this hotel one night prior to a cruise. We were a party of 5 people and it is very hard to find a room that will sleep 5 people in San Juan. I called the hotel directly and a wonderful woman went out of her way to make sure that we had a room with a pull-out couch so we could sleep all five of us. They only have three of these rooms. She was very friendly and helpul.

We didn't arrive to the hotel until midnight. The gentleman at the front dest was amazing. He was expecting us and gave the rest of my party keys so they could get settled while I finished checking in. He could tell we were tired.

After we got into our room he checked on us to make sure we had all of the linens we needed.

The room was very small and very stark. It definately needed an upgrade. However, the beds were comfortable. We were on the first floor and had a great view of the pool and our own private patio area. We didn't get to use anything because we were up and out the next morning to head to the port.

The woman at the desk the next morning was also very accommodating and got us a taxi very quickly. She even made sure that we got one of her favorite drivers.

The hotel definately has some charm and with some upgrading could be a real gem! I don't think I would stay there for more than one night. However, for the price and the service it was well worth it for that one night.

Room Tip: Don't get a room on the fist floor.

Our stay in this hotel was for just one night before leaving on a cruise, so we stayed, but my first instinct upon seeing the room was to leave and find another hotel. We had a first floor room and it couldn't have been more stark and bare bones. We had to request a remote to even operate the tv. While I could endure this for one night, I would caution anyone from staying here for a vacation. We were also charged extra for using the in room safe, as well as a resort fee. It is laughable to even remotely call this place a resort. This was the low point of our vacation.

We booked a room in this hotel for one night prior to a cruise. The price seemed fairly reasonable for this area of San Juan and the reviews were good. We were given a room on the top floor at the rear. Upon entering, we were very underwhelmed. The room was extremely small and shabby. The bathroom was filthy. There was hair on the floor and the shower looked like it had never been properly cleaned. The drain in the shower was broken and had jagged metal sticking up, so that we needed to be very careful not to step on it. The thing that disgusted me the most was a drop of dried blood on the bathroom floor. The bed was adequate but the air conditioner could not quite cool the room so I ended up sleeping very poorly.

The next morning at checkout, we were advised that there was a $3 "resort fee" added to our bill. Resort?!? Are you kidding me? This place was a dive. I pity anybody booking this place for more than one night. It was truly depressing.

The building is set in the middle of Condado, a nice location in San Juan. It is very close to shops and restaurants, all within walking distance. Also, a pharmacy is very close. The room we booked was a small suite that slept 6. It had two double beds that were super comfortable and a fold out sofa, that of course had lumps!! The entire building looks like a historic treasure, it's beautiful. There is no fancy breakfast or anything, but the staff is super friendly and was great to offer suggestions on dining options. I would for sure stay here again.

Room Tip: The family suite is spacious, but quaint.

The hotel room was okay buy it is not 5 star room. However, the location was the best part about this hotel. Your right at Condado beach and its very safe. Nobody bugging or anything like that. The hotel staff was real friendly and food was great. The only thing I hated was taking the taxis to go almost everyyhere because they were preetty picey at times. Also, the buses are horrible because they come only once every 2hrs. Now sleep wise it is pretty loud but who goes on vacation to go to sleep.

Room Tip: Transportation really sucks. Beaches are very relaxing.

This is our second stay at this hotel. Each time was for one night prior to our cruise vacations. It is small in a nice area. The pool area is lovely and quiet. Both times we stayed on the first floor. As previous reviewers have noted, you can hear noise from the lobby. This is not an issue for me as I travel with a noise machine. The room was clean; however, maintenance is lacking. The patio light was broken, and one of the bedside lamps was broken. Overall, for the price this hotel is fine for one night.

We were cruising for a couple of weeks out of San Juan and wanted to extend our holiday by a couple of days at the start and a day at the end of the cruise. We had had a bad experience with a hotel 2 years prior in San Juan and therefore paid a lot of attention to the customer reviews. It seemed to us that there were a lot of reviewers expecting hilton standards at HOJO prices. The roome we had were comfortable, quiet and clean. That being said the aircon unit did rattle a bit if it was turned to the lowest setting but quietened down when moved just a couple of degrees. The bathrooms are basic and once we had figured out which way to turn the shower tap (fawcet) to get hot water it was fine but did take a while to come through. The lights, phones and TV all worked well. What really makes this hotel exceptional is the staff. They are sooo accommodating and helpful. On our first night our receptionist phoned our prebooked restaurant and obtained directions for us. We also wantd to find a liquor store and although she didn't know where any where she telephoned a relative of hers who was able to give us directions to 2 stores that were within walking distance of the Hotel. On our last day, a Sunday, we were unable to find an internet cafe that was open. We again asked our receptionist if they knew where we could get injternet access so that we could confirm the reservations for our return flight and we were invited around to the other side of reception, logged on and allowed to complete our business from their terminal. If we needed a taxi the receptionist was always able to get one to the hotel within a few minutes - and no the prices were as specified and not inflated. Would we stay here again? Absolutely! Would we be happy to have an extended stay here? Without question. If you have Hilton money and want Hilton standards then just go to the Hilton. If you want great value for money with courteous staff in a lovely little hotel in the centre of Condado then this is the hotel for you.

Room Tip: Don't hold unrealistic expectations. You generally get what you pay for but here you just get th...
