“Worth the 70 min hour beautiful drive to Ponce! Great art. World class museum!”

Never thought that you could find such an impressive collection in the southern part of this Caribbean island. Truly world class. Beautiful newly renovated building. Definitely worth the panoramic drive. Don't miss the visit to the historic center of Ponce. Must try the local gelattos across from the Old Fire House in the town square. Will visit again!

“Beautiful spaces worth the trip”

A beautiful gallery with modern style and an impressive collection ranging from historic pieces to modern interpretations.

Be sure to wear a sweater -it is absolutely freezing inside.

“Best museum in Puerto Rico”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 March 2011

This museum houses a diverse collection of art ranging from the 14th to the 21st century. It has a very beautiful selection of pre-Raphaelite paintings by artists like Millais, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, William Holman Hunt and others; some Italian Baroque pieces, native South American pottery, contemporary Latin American art and more. Very few of the works are behind glass cases so you can really get up close and admire every brush stroke and every bronze and marble sculpture. You can take pictures of the paintings as long as you don't use flash. There are audio guides available and free guided tours in Spanish and English. No crowds, plenty of friendly but unobtrusive staff. Bring a sweater because it's cold inside. Overall a peaceful, simple and beautiful place. Worth the trip to Ponce, just to see this museum.

“Just re-opened and still magnificent!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 23 December 2010

The museum has just reopened after a couple of years of work and is better than ever. The collection has a bit of everything from local to international, classic to modern. The art is very accessible, not like other museums I've been to where art is 10ft away behind a rope.
The museum also had a couple of areas where kids can get a better understanding of what they're seeing. The biggest complaint my daughter had was that the A/C was too cold and we were dressed for the heat.
My biggest complaint is that parking (though free) was not clearly marked. We circled the block once because we saw the lot, just before the museum, a litle too late to make the turn.

“Incredible collection of large paintings and sculpture”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 April 2007

The upper floor is the best selection of large paintings from Western European Renaissance masters I have ever seen in the USA (I'm not a total museum buff and I am sure that there are better collections somewhere, but this one's really quite impressive, nonetheless). "Flaming June" and "The Last Sleep of Arthur at Avalon" were on the first floor - they are famous images, and these are the originals -- again, these are large works of art. The Last Sleep.. is about 20 feet long! The museum also has excellent classical statuary. The area of the museum where they showed most of their local artists was was closed due to exhibition prep when we were there. This museum far exceeded our expectations!
