“Great place, wonderful staff”
Reviewed 21 February 2012

This warren of stairs and buildings is wonderful. Lovely room with high ceilings and a shared balcony running along the street side. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Sometimes there isnt enough hot water and the street noises at night are very loud. They have earplugs at the front desk.
Be warned - Its hard to find the center of town as the signs are not correct.

This place was the best thing about our time in Ponce. BE WARNED - EVERYTHING in Ponce is closed Monday - Friday. Do not bother going there during the week. There is nothing to do and only two restaurants and about 2 bars open. The hotel was sooo lovely though. Very charming and quaint, clean and spacious rooms and real old world charm. We had a little balcony and the decor was really lovely, all dark wood shutters and a nice huge bed. We really just holed up in here and snuggled, and it made the whole trip worth it. Your not getting a standard hotel experience here - it's really unique. No elevator, converted 18th century Hacienda with hand-painted tile floors - and breakfast muffins and coffee in the lobby every morning. I would recommend them and stay again anytime..but will not visit Ponce again in a hurry, even though it's a pretty little town.

Room Tip: If you are noise averse, ask for an interior room away from the street.

Nice and clean hotel down town Ponce. Very friendly and helpful staff.
Room is spacious, shower is hot and clean.
Only down part was the noice. We were at the street side (front of hotel) and a lot of noice from the street comes into you room. Till 2AM the party goes on, at 4AM the city starts to live (trucks etc.).
So ask for a room at the back of the hotel or ask for earplugs.

This is a quaint and delightful place to stay for a night. The only reason I don't say more than 1 night is that there was little to do on the weekdays we were there (the art museum was closed, trolley tour was not running, and most nearby restaurants were closed in the evening.) The owner (I thought his name was Roberto but I now see it must be Humberto!) was extremely personable and welcoming - really he is an exceptional host. He went out of his way to help park our car, assist wtih bags, share some history and show us to a local restaurant that he obviously sends many guests to. The hotel is nicely decorated and comfortable as well as very clean. The rooms are spacious with plenty of places to put your things, everything was in working order and we were able to get a hair dryer from the desk. Other staff were friendly but had few recommendations to offer. Go across the street for a down to earth local breakfast experience. There were few dinner options - however, the Ramada outdoor courtyard was very decent and not what you might expect. There is also a fun place to get a frozen treat (King's creme I think it's called). The old section of Ponce was interesting to walk around, and you can imagine how beautiful it must have been. There are some lovely restored buildings, but sadly much of it is run down. Many vacancies and tacky shops - did not see any fine artisans that others mentioned; perhaps they are only there certain days.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet inner room without a balcony.

This is the kind of hotel we seek out, but don't often find: well located, comfortable, small, charming, colorful, friendly and reasonably priced. Humberto was very welcoming. Yes, on Friday night, the street side rooms were noisy. The desk offers earplugs if you need them or suggests a room on the quiet side of the building.

This is an old hotel with good updates in the rooms. The balcony room we had was large, with high ceilings and nice furnishings. The staff were friendly and helpful, and as others have said, the breakfast is pretty skimpy.

The complaints about noise are valid, too. The nearby bar has a thumping bass until about 3 a.m., although that's not what kept me awake; instead, the car and foot traffic until 3 a.m. was the problem, with shouts and singing, as well as loud car stereos. It was all manageable with earplugs, though, so definitely bring them. (And this isn't the fault of the hotel.)

Ponce is a really lovely little city, but many things were closed the weekend we were there, especially restaurants. We ended up eating in the Ramada our first night--not our first choice, but it was that or Burger King or Church's; everything else was closed on a Friday night. We had similar problems with breakfast and lunch all weekend.

Room Tip: The balcony rooms are noisy late at night, but they're really quite nice.

We stayed there two nights ago, what a beautiful little hotel! The staff was very friendly too. Breakfast was very simplecontinental breakfast, but it got us the coffee we needed to get going which is what we cared about anyway...! Turns out we got the very last room left (they were sold out) and it was a comfortable, big, spacious room... with a nice balcony to the street: the noise went on until past 4am. Way too nosiy and did not get a good sleep at all. My parents had the room next door and did not hear all the raucous and slept very well. So stay away from the street rooms if you can help it!
Also, be advised this is a gorgeaus but very old building, the rooms are on the 2nd floor and there is no elevator, so a handicapped person would have a hard time getting upstairs.
The hotel location is great. We went walking around the plaza, just a few steps away, they had artisans displaying stunning wood carvings as well as sculpture clay art; very pretty and the artisans are also very knowledgeable and eager to answer any question you may have about their craft. They also had pretty and inexpensive hand made souvenirs; far from the "made in China" rubbish and a much more elegant gift. Right across we saw a long line of locals waiting to buy ice cream, so we decided to follow suit... And it was so worth it! Made on site every day, ice cream in all kinds of fruit flavors as well as vanilla and chocolate. Oh my goodness, we tried guanábana, coco (coconut), parcha (passion fruit) and fresa (strawberry). They were all very tasty and delicious and wish I could have tried them all! Llimón (lime) and almendra (almond) were also recommended by locals.. And the prices were so cheap ($3 for two medium size cups with 2 flavors each) you almost feel guilty! (Just leave them a nice tip please :)

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing the street, too noisy.
