According to the guides we went with, the bay is back to about 80% of normal. I thought it was 100% incredible- something you can't see anywhere else. We could see the fish swimming leaving glowing trails through the water, and even the little waves made by the wind were glowing. Amazing!

Went on a 5pm bioluminescent kayak tour with my brothers in puerto mosquito. Was expecting to see a lot more "bioluminescence" than what we actually saw (what we did get to see was still pretty cool). The moon was also out which might have been why there wasn't much action but didn't really see much kayaking through the mangroves either. Also, the most annoying part was probably the other kayakers who didn't really know what they were doing and too many at the same time, not just our group but the other 7 or 8 groups that were there (which probably had at least 15 ppl/group). The guide was great and very informative but I would say save your money, maybe do the bio-boat tour instead so you don't get people running into your kayak or hitting you with their oars.

For someone who has never been, the Bio Bay was amazing! The glow was beautiful! We booked with Abe's & our guide Jeff was very informative, laid back & did an awesome job! Would definitely recommend!! One tip, if you point your kayak away from the marker lights on the other kayaks & stay still for a minute you can see the fish glow when they moved about in the water. We were amazed at such natural beauty!

Took the jalopy bus down to the mangrove at night on a time when the moon was new, therefore no other ambient light. Th road was narrow, and tree branches hit the bus all the way down. We were afforded a well taught lesson on the night stars, then off into the boat. Hopping fish left a sparkling trail, and soon so did we as we swam in the warm dark waters with the dinoflagellates. Water ballet! Fun!

Once in Vieques we learned that bio bay tours are limited to Fri and Sat while the DNR researches the reasoning for the bay not glowing. We saw nothing. I hope the Bio Bay is able to heal!
