“Clean, Convenient, Reasonably Priced and Manager very helpful.”
Reviewed 19 February 2010

My wife and I stayed here for 3 night to wind down from a 7 day cruise and thouroughly enjoyed the relatively unpopulated island (after being on a boat with 3500 other folks). We arrived early without prior notice and manager made every effort to get our room cleaned quickly. Room was very nice, but basic. Pool was a nice amenity and we had it to ourselves most of the time to cool off or sunbathe. Sort of enjoyed not having a TV, ther is too much else to do. We did the Bio Bay (AMAZING!!!) and rented a scooter to explore the island and visit the many BEAUTIFUL beaches. We had to be at the airport on the other side of the island by 7 am and our scheduled taxi backed out the night before. I contacted the manager and he immediately started calling the drivers he knew for a 6:30 am pickup. No luck. "Heck" he said, "I have errands to run in town tomorrow, I will just take you in the morning". Saved us and would not take money, so we left a gift. I would certainly return and stay at the Casa de Tortuga again and again. My only suggestion would be that they automatically put new towells in the room daily, no daily cleaning was not a problem, it is how they keep costs down.

This was the perfect place to stay for our short 3 day stop in Vieques. The room and the pool were more than we could have ever asked for. The iPod dock in the room was a great touch!

The location couldn't have been better. Less than a minute walk to the beach/boardwalk and restaurants in Esparanza.

The owner, Matt, went above and beyond to make sure our stay was enjoyable. He gave us some really great advice on other places in Puerto Rico to visit. Definitely plan on returning to Vieques, wouldn't stay anywhere other than Casa de Tortuga.

My family travels every winter with friends (2 adults/2 kids in both parties) and this year we ended up at Casa de Tortuga in Vieques. We loved it. The property is relatively new and I was hesitant to book it before any trip advisor views because I absolutely depend on this site! But I'm very glad I did. Here's the low-down:
- the suites are great for families; light, airy and comfortable. The kitchen was basic but we really only needed it for breakfast and lunch. We went out for dinner.
-the pool. This is only guest house with a pool and it was great for the kids.
-the location. A big plus. It is less than a block from the town beach and a row of open-air restaurants. Up and around the block is a great bakery. I havn't been tempted by doughnuts in years, but these were AMAZING. There is also a grocery next door to the bakery (and a smaller one next to the hotel.) My two negatives on the location are: 1) no views; and 2) the neighbors-- there is one house that has the radio/tv going all the time and it is a bit noisy.
Like the others, we liked Matt, the propietor, very much and found him very helfpul in setting up excursions (the bio bay is THE best), replenishing towels, and getting us taxis.

I guess the people who did the other reviews don't mind the fact that they have no HOT water in the shower. No TV. A kitchenette that does not have the basics. The staff is never there. He will be there to check you in but, good luck finding him again. There is a sticker on the door that reads "board meeting all day with a ph #" AKA at the beach surfing or kicking it back. They don't replace towels, soap etc. during your stay. The room is clean except for the bathroom and the white rug next to the bed, which you are better off rolling up or tucking under the bed.

I visit the island every couple of months or so and will never stay here again nor would I ever recommend it to anyone.

My husband and I stayed at Tortuga late December and absolutely loved it. It is a newer property owned by a young guy named Matt from Colorado. He is incredibly helpful and has the cutest little dog named Pickle. Matt was so gracious to drive us into the town of Isabel Segundo 3 times during out 3 night stay. All the car rentals were booked. We stayed in Casita #4 which is on the corner. The room had a micro, fridge, comfy bed, and A/C. There was plenty of room for the two of us. There's even a nice table on the other end and a small sink near the microwave. It was very quiet and we were able to walk right into the town of Esperanza. The town is small but the walk along the malecon is nice. Matt is really a great host and he took time to meet all of our accommodations and answer all of my questions. We would stay nowhere else on this island. It was fabulous.

We went over to Vieques for a 2 night weekend after a 1-year hiatus from our favorite little island. With the W Resort and Spa still not open and our last hotel (Bravo) sold out, we had to scramble to find a new place. We were pleasantly surprised to find a beautiful building a half-block from the Malecon. We had one of the casitas for only $85 per night and it was perfect. It was furnished with quality furniture that I would have in my own home - something one can take for granted traveling in Puerto Rico. The bed was great, a nice table/chairs, full-size dresser, and even a small kitchenette. They even provide comfortable beach chairs! Matt (the manager) was extremely helpful and always available. It reminded me of a nice South Beach botique hotel. With the price so reasonable, a person could travel to Vieques twice as often versus staying at the other hotels..........besides, it is the beachs we came for!!!! Great place - won't stay anywhere else.

A gem in Vieques. New, clean, close to the Malecon. Matt is the proprietor and could not have been more helpful. The rooms are spotless, and done up in a very tasteful manner. Each has its own whimsical theme. You can tell there was no skimping here. There is flat screen TV, comfortable matresses , full kitchen, and large bathrooms with great towels. Matt is great at giving you the lowdown on what to do and where to go. There is an amazing pool which is great for the end of the day after a day at the beach. Less than a block away is a small market and right next to it a bakery where you can get fresh bread, coffee, and sandwiches for the beach. Get breakfast there (breakfast sandwiches ,great doughnuts), and avoid spending a fortune on the overpriced breakfast of the Malecon establishments...which take hours to arrive after you have ordered. Food on vieques is hit or miss. Bad breakfast at Belly Buttons...how can one make bad homefries??? Chez Shack is a blast on Grill nights(monday). On weekends ..try the food at the roadside stand just outside the entrance to the town beach.. amazing street food. El patio in Isabel is nothing to look at... but she makes authentic comida criollo.
