Gotta love it! It also has 2 of my regular stops... El Resuelve for quick great food, pool table or drinks and Mambos...

...this isn't a highway. It is barely a two lane road with pot-holes and half-built curbs. Some of the charm of island life is not having a department of transportation dictating road conformity. The terrible roads are actually part of the charm for this island.

OK, somebody had to give it a 5.
This highway will feel narrow to some travelers is the main drag from middle of Isabel II to Esperanza. It goes over the hills in an indirect route. From the top of the hills you get a picturesque view of Mosquito Bay and Pirates Cover. Have someone else take a photo since you should be watching for Iguanas, dogs, people, cows and locals driving like they are on crack.
Also, did I mention the famous Vieques "Paso Fino" horses?
They never travel alone so if you see one be careful for more.
Also, you may see people riding the horses around the next curve!
The young ones can get skittish and all of a sudden act like they are in a pin ball machine.
The route go down the hills past the road to the nature preserve and the "Sol Food" hut.
Next stop is Sun Bay. It cost $2 to get in. There are always horse here so WATCH OUT.

The road always has potholes (that can move and make babies) and no shoulder and for some people this is the very best road they ever get to drive on so they take advantage and go zooming along 50+.
Like I said let someone else take the photos.

This is definitely the quickest route between Esperanza and Isabel Segunda, mainly because the road is made up mainly of five long straightaways. Regardless, watch your speed as you never know when a wild horse will gallop out in front of you. The west end of this road is especially prone to wild horses, and they like to wander this road at night. And they tend to wander right down the middle of the narrow road, so be careful. Also, be careful when passing any vehicle on any road in Vieques, as most of the roads are no wider than a 2-car garage. If you encounter a delivery truck in the oncoming lane, be prepared to pull a couple wheels off the road to allow room for both vehicles to pass each other, and do this very slowly and be prepared to stop in case the truck doesn't, although I must say that both times I encountered large trucks coming from the other direction, they also slowed way down and pulled over as far as they could.

Why would one want to rate this basically one-lane rural route where you have to dodge oncoming vehicles and horse roaming around at leisure? Calling it a Highway is quite a misnomer.
