“Hidden gem!!! :)”
Reviewed 19 May 2014

My husband and I just got to stay one night here, but it was a treat! Penny picked us up and was so helpful and so we're the other hosts! They have rescue horses, kitties, and a few dogs, chickens, and lizards around every corner! The room was awesome and better than the expensive hotel we stayed at before! Big shower, comfy bed, fridge, microwave, plenty of towels, and awesome AC plus fans! The room had so much character (decorations, pictures), ours was fish themed :) and the room over was starfish :) it's a laid back kind if place so don't expect fancy smancy, but it is well worth the little price!!! Stay here! Don't waste your money somewhere else!!! Love it! :)

We stayed at SeaGate on April 21st what a cute little rustic place. It deff has its own character. Not a 5-star place but big rooms, cumffy beds, cold ac and great views. What more could you ask for. We rented our own jeep and drove ourselves to the hotel. Might be a need for better parking spots but that is the only thing I can find wrong with this place. LOVED looking over the horses and the great view off in the distance. Owner checked us in and offered any help with getting around or suggestions on things to do. You can tell she really takes PRIDE in her home. She stated she lost her husband so I hope this place helps her get up everyday and live the rest of her life to the fullest. She gets to meet interesting folks daily on this beautiful island. If we were ever to come back I would deff rent from SeaGate again. She was also very helpfull on giving info on the bio bay and its lack luster performance in the last few months. We did the bio experience here and in Fajardo I will say dont waste your time on Vieques until the bay comes back to life. Fajardo dose better tours you get to kayak in the ocean to the beginning of the mangrove and then through that to their bay which is glowing WAY BETTER than vieques. I think they said 1 million bio-dinos per gallon of water. I was so excited to see it the second time if full force cause our whole trip was based on coming to see the bio-dinos. I could grab water in my hand hold it up and the sparkles just rolled down my arm. The deeper you put your paddle in the water the more glow/sparkle you saw. Totally amazing a must do for everyone. I hope the bio bay on vieques comes back to life but we all know you can not control nature. So it you wanna see it in full force do your homework on which location is the best at the time your traveling. This island is beautiful and worth the 1 hour and 30 minute ferry ride. Restaurants are all good we ate at 3 different ones. Bellybuttons was fantastic for breakfast. I hope nothing but the best for this hotel owner as you can tell it is her home. Hope you enjoy our review all the way from St Louis Missouri.

Penny was amazing. She picked us up, connected us with someone who showed us the bioluminescent bay, and made Vieques the highlight of our Puerto Rico visit. SeaGate is beautiful and Penny is very friendly and helpful.

We spent one night at the SeaGate, and enjoyed our stay there. Penny, the owner, was very helpful with pointing out the best attractions on the island. She always offered a ride, and did not expect anything in return. We expect to return there.

We added an extra night as soon as we saw our room, even though our room wasn't available our second night. Penny picked us up from the airport for free. She toured us around Isabella Segunda and showed us different restaurants, shopping, the grocery store, etc, as well as gave us a map with many different places of interest circled. They have a list of all the cab drivers on the island in the office at check in for you. She showed us around the suite and even called for prices on rental cars! They offer a laundry service ($10) that includes washing, drying, folding, and doorstep delivery. The view from the Captain's Quarters was breathtaking! We had a full kitchen, full dining room, big bathroom, sitting area, and sleeping area as well as not one, but TWO balconies. They offer a decent breakfast down in the office as well as beach towels. Penny was always easy to get in touch with and willing to answer any questions we had along the way. She also shuttled us to the ferry for us to head back to the mainland at the end of our stay. They offer horseback riding, but we didn't take that opportunity at all. For a honeymoon, this was our 5th night in the Caribbean and the 1st night we actually felt like we were on our honeymoon! I can't praise SeaGate enough!

Room Tip: Book the Captain's Quarters! You won't regret the view!

You can't judge this hotel on the level of 4/5 star hotels. It doesn't claim to be anything it's not. So don't be surprised at its "rural" features. For being a 2 star hotel, this place rocks. It was clean, everything worked, the shower was great, our balcony had awesome views. Everything from the wildlife sounds at nights, the roosters in the morning, and the random iguanas running around, gave this place its charm. Penny not only picked us up from the airport, but also dropped us off at our car rental place. That's not always common in a 2 star hotel. The location was ok having a small walk into town, but that didn't bother us since we drove everywhere we needed to go. (If you plan on getting around the island you will need a form of transportation beyond your legs)

The room was comfortable with separate sitting area/kitchen, and shared veranda with a spectacular view of the town and sea. The staff were wonderful and helpful with tips for navigating around the island. But they do keep horses and roosters and dogs so the farm smells might put some people off. We were kept up most of the night by the unrelenting barking dogs, and then the roosters going off before the crack of dawn. Not a good night sleep. To be fair to the owner, not all the dogs and roosters are on their property. As quaint as the property is we would not spend another night.
