Casa Ladera
Reviewed 2 January 2012

Casa Ladera with its 3 living units was perfect for our 13 family members (four generations). We had plenty of room to get out of each others' way but the pool area and outdoor kitchen was a great meeting place at the end of the day and at dinner time.
Each unit was very well equiped and nicely appointed.
Lauren and Jen were next door and Lauren was always available to answer questions about the property and the island. This is just a great place to stay on Vieques.

Spent a week here with extended family members, rented the whole property. It was perfect. Great location with easy access to gas stations, groceries, beach (not great for swimming but lots of sea glass and private sand), airport and a couple restaurants. About 20 min. drive to Esperanza for more restaurants and activities. Having 3 vehicles available to rent was great, one less detail to worry about. Loved the covered eating area and grills by the beautiful pool. Had fresh mangoes, coconuts and limes from trees on the property. Large iguanas provided entertainment. Lovely grassy spaces to roam around. Nice kitchens and living spaces. Having washing machines available was really nice so we could pack light. Property is well-maintained. Jen and Lauren were very easy to work with. Satellite TV and Wi-Fi were great amenities. My only regret is that we couldn't stay another week. Thanks for a wonderful family reunion/vacation!

We have stayed at Casa Ladera for the past two years and count our days there among our most cherished memories. What a great place! This year we had three generations spanning nearly 70 years and I’d be hard pressed to say whether grandparents, parents or children had the best time.

The mechanics went smoothly (no mean feat, since we needed three cars when we arrived at the airport). The units at CL are spotless, everything worked and all the things we might reasonably need were at hand. It was especially nice having the entire compound. The dinners we cooked by the pool became instant highlights.

Vieques is a gem. In a way I feel badly saying that, since such statements only attract more people. Part of the charm of the place is it feels undiscovered and off the beaten track. The latter might be true, the former probably isn’t, but we still love the ambience.

We’ve been to beaches in South Africa, India and Asia and haven’t seen any which are either more beautiful or less crowded that those on Vieques. And is there a better beach for small children than Media Luna anywhere in the world? Time your trip by the phase of the moon because a visit to the bioluminescent bay is a must (but watch out for the jelly fish).

So if you want sun and surf away from the madding crowds . . . Vieques is for you. And you can’t do better than Casa Ladera. Kudos to Jen and Lauren. We’ll be back!

We, a group of 8 adults, stayed at Casa Ladera for 5 nights in April 2007. We rented all three units and two rental cars while there. Overall, we had a great experience not only at Casa Ladera but in Vieques as well. Jen was very helpful while booking the units. When traveling with a large group it is sometimes hard to get everyone on the same page or to make a decision quickly. She was very helpful and patient throughout the whole process. Once we got there Jen picked us up at the airport in one of our rental vehicles. There were 8 of us so we had to make two trips from the airport but that was not a problem. The units were all very clean and nice. We were renting the whole place so we did not have to deal with not knowing the other people staying there.... this was the best decision ever! We has a great time because we had our own little vacation village. The pool, the bbq, the laundry was all ours! It was great! Both Jen and Lauren were accessible throughout the week and were very helpful for the most part. The one issue we had was that one person in our group HAD to be accessible to her job while on vacation. We called in advance to make sure they had internet access and that we would be all set. We were told by Jen that they had wireless and that we would be ok. When we got there the wireless did not work and was not fixed all week. Our friend had to go to the coffee shop to get an internet connection and ended up leavig the vacation early. I will say it was her choice to still go on vacation, to an island, when needing to be connected to work however; I would have liked more of an effort to resolve this problem.

Given that this was the only major wrinkle in an otherwise fabulous week I would recommend Casa Ladera to others traveling to Vieques. It was a great place to stay!! The island is wonderful and has all of the fabulous quirks of an un-Americanized island.

We were three families staying in all three apartments at Casa Ladera during the week between Christmas and New Year, with a total of six children ages 10 and under. Everyone had a blast, especially the kids. There is a pretty good market a block away with a decent wine selection and we cooked nearly all our own meals and ate by the pool. You can hit a different near-empty beach every day if you want. Everything was clean and as promised, including the rooms, the pool, and rental cars. Lauren and Jen work hard to keep it right and it shows.

I just returned from a fabulous week long stay at Casa Ladera. We were a group of 11 adults and kids who took over all three units. Vieques is a fabulous place no matter where you stay, but our trip was most enhanced by the quality, comfort and convenience of the casa. From Jen's friendly assistance with the minutia of organizing the trip to Lauren's invaluable day-to-day availability, these two made the visit all the more wonderful. I think the other reviews express very nicely all the features of the house--we lacked nothing, not even the warmth of a pet. I think everyone in our group would return to Vieques and Casa Ladera in a minute. Thanks to Jen and Lauren.
