“Perfect escape from it all!”
Reviewed 8 January 2014

Anyone searching to get away from it all and spend some time in paradise should book Evamer immediately! My husband and I were burnt out from our busy lives in New York City and were searching for the perfect place to get away from it all without having to travel too far. With a direct 3 hour flight to San Juan & relatively quick car and ferry to Vieques - we were on the beach relaxing in no time. (and side note - Vieques has some of the most beautiful beaches I have seen anywhere around the world!)

From sight one, Evamer was perfection. We were shocked to find out that even during the busy holiday time we were the only guests staying there the first day of our trip (only one other couple the rest of the time) - such a welcome surprise after leaving the city! The grounds and our villa, MiraMar, we even more lovely than the photos. I have never stayed somewhere that was so close to the beach! Just a short walk down the stairs outside our villa and we were on the lovely private beach - we even saw a rainbow!

Jinette was wonderful to work with leading up to our stay and very helpful while we were there with giving us recommendations. She booked our rental Jeep for us and was always there with a smile when we needed her.

Evamer is on the north coast which provides more seclusion, but is still an easy drive to get anywhere on the island. We cooked our breakfasts & ate on the patio every morning overlooking the beach. They also had a great grill set up which we would have used if we were staying longer!

We actually were so impressed with Evamer and Vieques in general that our friends cancelled their travel plans to somewhere else and booked Evamer after hearing about our trip! If you are looking for an all inclusive that could be anywhere in the world, try the W. But if you are like us and are looking for the perfect unique getaway for a very reasonable price, Evamer is for you!

Room Tip: We loved staying in MiraMar - direct beachfront room with a nice private patio. All of the other roo...

There are no words to describe the beauty of this location. Set on the Northside of the Island close to Isabel II, Evamer is a hidden treasure. Private beach, beautiful grounds, simple but peaceful rooms...we couldn't have found a better place to stay during our visit. Management was especially accommodating. There is a covered patio, infiniti pool, outdoor bar and more. The room is just what you need.. no more, no less. A bed, bathroom, kitchen, sitting room, tv, a/c and fans... and then the view. Rooms have hair dryers and kitchen is stocked with everything you need to make a good meal or just store snacks. We spent more time just staring at the ocean than anything else. Vieques is beautiful, rustic but beautiful. We will return to Vieques and will most definately stay at Evamer again. Although there is a W on the island, you would miss out if you didn't stay at Evamer instead. The rate is more than reasonable and the company is great. Thank you Evamer for being the icing on the cake to our amazing trip.

Room Tip: We stayed in Mira Coco which is on the second story. The balcony is right above the ocean and we w...

We traveled during Holidays 2012 and were able to get a last minute booking at Evamer - a true hidden gem in the quieter, less touristy part of Vieques (which is exactly what we wanted). The resort is small and private, with an amazing beach that we had to ourselves pretty much the entire time (if you don't count the horses who dropped by once in a while). The private villa was specious with a cute front porch. We were still a short drive away from the main town, restaurants and bars. The managers were very accommodating and provided great local recommendations. Very responsive over email as well. Will definitely be back!

My husband and I were not sure what to expect, but were very surprised when we got to Evamer. The grounds are beautifully landscaped with flowering trees and bushes. Sherrie, the manager, was so wonderful, telling us where to find the best ribs in town (Bellybuttons), which beaches not to miss, and even baking us homemade cinnamon buns. The garden casita which we stayed in at first, was rather small, but seemed homey, and adequate for our needs, until we moved to MiraMar. Being oceanfront was magnificent. The sound of the waves breaking on the shore lulled us to sleep at night. The casita was spacious and very clean. Having our breakfast on the patio overlooking the shore was heaven. We spent four amazing nights there and hope to go back soon.

Room Tip: The garden casita is best if you do not like the sound of the ocean, but for the money the views fro...

My husband and I enjoyed a wonderful six night stay in el cottage this February. We enjoyed the view, the sound of the waves, our morning walks along the beach and it was wonderful to have our own little kitchen to make breakfast and get together picnics for our days on the many beautiful beaches (coolers provided!)

Evamer could be a high end boutique hotel, but instead it remains more for the average bear and affordable. It is a bit bohemian and while it's true that everything is not designer or pristine or the most luxurious it is still a charming, cozy place. It was also a little weird that the hot tub at el cottage was not functioning. None of these things were deal breakers though and it's a great place at a really fair price.

We found the management ( Sherry and her husband) to be very friendly, helpful and available. They are not on site but she was there to help every morning and always available by cell. Special kudos are deserved when we ended up calling Sherry because we had 2 flat tires down a long dirt road. She sent her husband to rescue us (he even brought water and a smile!) and called the car rental for us because the message at the rental office was only in Spanish and we couldn't understand it. It was above and beyond the call of duty.

The owner, Jinette, lives on mainland PR and she was very good at emailing during the reservation process. All and all I would recommend a stay and Evamer.

EvaMer is situated on the north coast of Puerto Rico, just west of the town of Isabel. The setting is absolutely breathtaking. Perched up high over the ocean, you can enjoy views of the ocean from the swimming pool or one of the sitting areas. Or you can take some steps through a secure gate down to the beach and dip your toes into that superb turquoise water. We were in the Mira Mar, which is the closest to the ocean . It was very nice, supplying a large comfortable bed, a little kitchen area and a good sized bathroom with lovely stone-tiled walls and shower. There are areas where some repairs could be made as, I suspect, the humidity has caused a few issues. One should note that there is no office onsite but Sherri will be there to meet you and see you off once she knows your agenda. All of this was handled by Jinette with our online booking. Our thanks to both these ladies for all their help. As there is no staff onsite, noone will make your bed for you, clean your bathroom, sweep the sand up off your floor, etc. etc. It is very quiet and peaceful. Although there were a few other people staying while we were there, we really felt like we had the place all to ourselves most of the time. Wonderful!

Very explicit instructions were received as to how and when to contact someone to get us into the compound of cottages on this property. I phoned, emailed, and texted of our arrival time and as the driver dropped us off at the closed gate we stood there in the rain waiting for someone to let us in. Not a very good first observance. Finally, someone came out of the main house, saw us standing in the rain and opened the gate. We spoke with 3 other couples who had the same experience and actually two girls who had to climb the fence to get in. I seem to think that since Mark left (I read the extensive review on his management and accomodation credentials) many things have changed at Evamer. Also, it is currently up for sale. Sherry seems to be overseeing the management and lives over in Esperanza so she is not on site.
The location is off the beaten path which is exactly what was expected and enjoyed. We stayed in Mira Mar which has a nice patio area overlooking the ocean. It seems that the upkeep is not being addressed, such as: in the kitchen area there was a large hole in the ceiling above the pantry (where a light may have been?), the bathroom has no hooks for clothes, no outlet for hairdryer so you need to dry your hair in the living area with no mirror. There is no dresser for clothes, only sparse shelving in the open closet with only 4 hangers. The toaster oven was rusty, sparse limited utensils and kitchenware. Just a few little touches and improvements would make a world of difference. Also spoke with a couple who has been coming to Evamer for 7 years and definitely felt that "things have changed". The final note was the alarm system and instructions that were given to us to activate it led to the system going off and police being called, killed our eardrums!

Room Tip: Mira Mar is closest overlooking the beach.
