This place is fantastic! The room was comfortable, the whole place is spotless, and your hostesses are great. It's a little walk to the beach, but the views from being slightly uphill are well worth it (don't miss the rooftop deck). Mireya and Annette obviously love their island and can tell you where everything is and everything to do while you're there. They also left us alone but were always available if we needed them.
Not having a television or telephone might horrify some people, but it was really helpful since we just wanted to relax and get away from it all. They do have free internet access, and it worked better than our more upscale hotel in San Juan.
I could have used a small coffee pot in the room (I'm a caffeine addict) but the bakery is only a block away and I was able to feed my addiction with a small pack of Folger's singles.
We didn't want to leave and we can't wait to go back. Next time we're going to make all our friends go and rent every room they have!

This guesthouse is brand new! It is extremely clean and the service was excellent. The rooms are somewhat small, but the space is used well. The owners are very friendly and helpful, but not intrusive. They provide beach chairs, towels and cooler. It's about ten minutes walking from the malecon and therefore walking distance from the beach. It would be very very useful to have a car (and you should rent one prior to your visit) so that you can travel into the downtown or the other neighborhoods. The food choices in Esperanza are limited. Also, there is no TV or internet! Internet would have been useful, at least.

We spent two nights at Villa Coral. After getting of the plane, hiring a car and driving to Fajardo - we though "what have we done?", Fajardo, quite frankly is a crap hole. All are fears were alleviated after getting off the ferry and getting to Villa Coral (even though it was pitch black when the ferry arrived post 10pm but Mireya and Annette were waiting for us).

Villa Coral is a ten minute walk from the Malecon (the main drag) in Esperanza - there are heaps of place to drink and eat. Although the best meal award goes to the colourful (purple?) place about 150 meters from the ferry terminal in Isabel II towards Esperanza - the crab cake habanero sandwich was fantastic. The funny little bar on the sea-side of the road in Esperanza provided some comedy value at night too. We had breakfast at Tradewinds and we had the worst service ever - the chick had so much attitude it was unbelievable - I'd avoid that place like the plague.

We went to Mosquito Bay with Island Adventures - even though the moon was half out it was a fantastic experience. We thought it would be easier to swim from the boat that have the hassle of getting in/out of kayaks. Plus, when the moon is light you can go under the boat (catamaran-like hull) to simulate darkness. We also got dropped off by collectivo at Navio beach and then walked back pass Half Moon Bay and Sun Bay to town - took about three hours including plenty of time for stopping, sunbaking and swimming - a great way to see several beaches.

The rooms looked new and were extremely clean and obviously well looked after. And there was a cool terrace and roof deck for hanging out.

Mireya and Annette are fantastic and willing to get advice on things - they had even arranged for a collectivo to pick us up from the ferry port. We thought long and hard about where we would stay on the island and would go back to Villa Coral (and Vieques) in a heart beat.

My boyfriend and I stayed there for three nights. We loved it! It was spotlessly clean, and the rooms were very pretty and well-decorated. The roof deck and other outdoor space are great places to relax during a lazy afternoon or evening. And, the hosts were very friendly and helpful but not at all obtrusive. Highly recommend.

Villa Coral Guest House with Mireya and Annette is an excellent combination to spend some (romantic) time on the beautiful exotic Vieques island. Good organization, clean and comfortable rooms with friendly, eco concerned and helpful hostesses. View in the distance over the Caribbean sea. Close by, the local environment Mango trees, Roosters, and the local pony's.
One tip if you are not an early birdie, bring earplugs for the Roosters ;-)

We stayed at Villa Coral for a couple of days in March. We really liked the location as it catches a nice breeze, it's fairly quiet, has nice views from the terrace+deck areas, and it's quite close to the Malecon. Our room was quaint with nice personal touches and spotless. No TV/Phone (not missed), small frigo, fan and A/C. You also have a beach cooler+2 beach chairs available to use. The owners/hostess are great and make sure you enjoy your stay there. They were natural, friendly and always available.

While in Vieques, rent a car if you can however have no fear as you can get to the ex-Navy beaches by organized transport.

As a side note: if you're trying to chose between Vieques & Culebra, chose Vieques. It's still small and laid back but with a few more options (eg beaches, restaurants, guest houses/inns, activities). And you won't find Villa Coral in Culebra!
