“Wonderful stay despite the weather”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

Living on Sint Martin for over a year my GF and i had been waiting for a chance to visit Saba to do the Hike and Dive. We finally booked forgetting it was gonna be easter weekend meaning most places shut but Scouts Place did not disappoint. The staff on the reception were very friendly and great in making sure we had somewhere to eat each night and giving information on the Island. The hotel itself is nice and basic with what you would expect in the caribbean. The bar and restuarant looked new and modern, a great place to grab a drink and something to eat. The menu changes from lunch to dinnner meaning there's always something to try. Plus special evening like grill night, burger night etc.The location is perfect to head out into the small area of windwardside where most the other bars and restaurants are. The start of most the hikes also only a few minutes walk away.
The main reason for a Saba visit is to dive. Scouts place and Saba divers work perfectly together. Billy the taxi man is always there when he needs to be and shuttles you back and forth with ease nice knowing its all included. Despite the weather turing bad for us we still got to do all 6 dives at 5 locations. The rare swell being the only reason for a sort of reapeat dive. We still got to see many great things that you would expect to see on Saba. The dive instructors Simon and Rita were great - professional, fun and most importantly, conducted very safe excursions. Having been before with another dive centre, Saba Divers are my favourite and I highly recommend them to anyone who is trying to choose a dive centre on Saba.
So overall a great weekend even if we didnt get the luck of the weather. Anyone looking for a nice simple, stress free time on Saba look no further.

Scouts Place is centrally located in Windwardside. There are a lot of places and dining just around the corner. If you follow the road in the direction of Bottom, you reach the trail shop after 5 Minutes from which several trails, e.g. to Mt. Scenery, start. If you love scuba diving, this is a very good place to stay because the Saba Divers Dive Center is right in the hotel an offers very good and professional diving.

The hotel itself sits beautifully above the Windwardside town center so that all rooms have an ocean view. We had a standard room and we were quite happy with what we got. The room was clean and spacious with enough storage room in the wardrobe or elsewhere in the room. The bathroom was small but sufficient. Outside of the room we could see the pool and colorful blooming trees within the hotel compound.

The only thing that was not quite perfect was the food. With the room comes a continental breakfast which sometimes took quite long to be finished and consisted of a slightly changing number of bread slices with warm butter that looked like it has been molten many times, jam cheese and ham. If you want any other breakfast note that you don't have to just pay the difference between the continental breakfast and the breakfast you want but an extra 6 or 7 Dollars to "upgrade". They also offer to pack some sandwiches for you that you can take on your scuba diving trip. I recommend you check whether they packed the sandwiches you ordered at the hotel. If everything is correct, those lunch packs are tasty and enough to keep you full until dinner.

The hotel has a fancy-looking restaurant in which we ate at Grill-Night and we're quite satisfied. However, the other days it wasn't very busy so we decided to try something different each night.
The highlight regarding great food and service was definitely the Eden. It may not be cheap but it is absolutely worth it. Another great thing to do is to walk up to the Shearwater hotel where the view is dazzling and if you go between noon and 2 pm your chances are very good you see some green iguanas sunbathing in front of the hotel terrace or next to the street beneath the hotel. The best thing, however, is to go for sunset and watch the sun go down while enjoying a cocktail on the hotel terrace.

We stayed here a few nights. We came to Saba to dive. The hotel is conveniently located, near a food store and good restaurants. The hotel staff was friendly and accommodating. All rooms had an amazing view. The rooms were average (not a 4 star by any means), but were clean and, most importantly when you dive, the beds were comfortable. So we really used the hotel for only sleeping. The hotel pool was small and old. The restaurant located on site was also a plus when you have been out diving all day. Overall, this hotel fit our needs.

Room Tip: Good Dive Hotel.

I spent three nights at Scout's with my wife while dropping my daughter off at the Med School on the Island. Wolfgang and his staff were great hosts. Everyone was polite, kind and very helpful. Breakfast, lunch ,dinner; the food was very good as were the accommodations. Beautiful views and good location. Walk to bank, post office, market, shops. People are very friendly, pleasant. Wasn't there for Friday night "Sabaoke" but my daughter said it was a lot of fun. Billy's taxi is around the corner for prompt, reliable service.

This was my first trip to Saba. I picked Scout's because it sounded like everything was convenient. Dive shop right there. Restaurant there. Continental Breakfast provided for free. Since Saba has no beaches they had a pool. I did several emails back & forth & the office staff which is also the dive staff was friendly & helpful with my questions. From the moment of arrival at the airport everything went as planned. Billy's taxi service picked us up, the taxi fare was what we had been told, check in went smooth & I felt confident from the start about the dive shop as it was more than sign these forms & you're ready to dive. They actually took the time to look at my C card & ask about prior dive destinations. Our room was very comfortable. We had a mini fridge & greatly appreciated the coffee pot with coffee & teas provided plus sugar creamers & nice mugs. The housekeeping dept. did a great job of keeping us cleaned up. The view from our balcony was spectacular. We appreciated the fact that we could take our wicker chairs & sit them outside our room to read & just enjoy the view. After diving I found it relaxing to sit by the pool. That was cleaned I'd say every other day. They had comfortable chaises & chairs. The water was on the cool side. We were there in February & the nites due to the altitude there do dip down. If you go that time of year do take a light jacket for the evening. Most mornings we did the continental breakfast & it was more then enough for us. I upgraded a morning or two for a few dollars more. Not a lot to do in the evenings but that was okay by us. The restaurant at Scout's does have Friday nite Sabaoake. We enjoyed listening to the locals sing. We didn't feel that it was out of hand or noisy. Just some good fun. Scout's is conveniently located in Windwardside We walked to all the restaurants, shops, grocery store, bank & museum. Windwardside itself is just such a beautiful town. Truly a step back in time. The people that live there obviously take pride in their island & town. I'd go back to Saba in a heartbeat & would stay at Scout's again. It was truly a place I felt safe & relaxed.

Janine H from Pa.

Room Tip: The second floor has the view.

I stayed at Scout's Place 1/29 to 1/31 for diving.
The staff in the office and on the boat (same people) to be very pleasant and knowledgable. The accomodations were just acceptable, otherwise I would have given it an an overall "excellent" rating. They have their dive program, worry free. Good continental breakfast in the AM, arranged taxi to the dock and return in the afternoon. I did not have dinner there so I can't comment on their dinners. The dives were excellent with great variety of coral and sea life. I had a particular issue in that I use air much faster than the others in the group so they assigned a specific dive master for me for a small additional fee that I was happy to pay. You can really tell the quality of the people in charge when there is an unusual situation. It worked out great! I highly recommend this operation.

We ended up at Scouts Place after a night at the Ecolodge. This was in town and much more easily accessible. Wi if did not work in the rooms, neither did the cable t.v. Due to a December storm. It wasn't a big deal to us though as we know in island time things take awhile. We loved the location though as we could walk anywhere in town easily. We had lunch once and dinner once, breakfast twice here. Staff were very nice. The room was clean. No air conditioning, but with front and back patio windows open we had a good breeze at night. We had a coffee maker and a small fridge in our room which was nice. We swam in the pool after hiking one day....it was cold but very refreshing!

Room Tip: I would ask to be on the upper floors with the rooms that have a balcony on the back and the front.
