We have been lucky enough to visit Bel Jou on 3 occasions, staying for 3 weeks each time and are looking forward to returning in October after a two week stay in Antigua.Having stayed at several of the Caribbean Islands [Tobago,Barbados,Grenada..] each of them has their own charm and differences but the one thing you will always be sure of is the amazing hospitality, culture and food.
Bel Jou,for us is like going home with all the added comforts of being cared for whatever our needs.Yes,it is at the top of a long winding road and no,it is not on the beach BUT these things are clearly pointed out by SAGA in the brochure. There is a service bus to take you to Castries, the Duty Free outlet,Pigeon point and Rodney Bay but if you want to stay put and enjoy the beautiful gardens [courtesy of Eugene, his team and all their hard work] you will be lucky enough to watch the humming birds and may even see a nest with chicks in it as I did....
Lunch with Lulu and the girls and guys at The Cabana is a firm favourite for us and being by the poolside makes it perfect. If catamaran cruises are your thing then the sunset cruise with steel band is not to be missed,we do this wherever we can and this one is our favourite....will be doing it each week !!

Room Tip: Garden rooms are our favourite as they open out onto the garden...that's why they are called gar...

Just returned from 3 weeks at the Bel Jou, Saga door to door service brilliant on outward journey, but return left much to be desired, the use of a VW bus to transport tired guests on a 200+ mile trip is NOT a good idea.
The hotel was very good, food varied but mostly good, room very clean, bright & comfortable,
lots of steps but the brochure makes this very clear, we opted for the5th floor & had the best views ever, don't be put off by the mention of steps, opt for floor 4 or 5 to get the views , as the entrance, reception, dining ,pool area etc. is all on floor 3, so you get lots of steps to every floor(1__5), do remember to take sensible footware, flip flops are not a good idea on steps.
Elizabeth the Saga rep. is one of the best, so kind and helpful, and realy cares about her guests welfare. Camilla & Nivan the husband wife General Managment team set the best example ever seen, to their staff, and are always on hand should you have a hotel problem.,the local medical staff put our NHS to shame,I had to make use of both Doctor & Nurse and found them excellent
all in all a good holiday at a good price, the only draw back being where the hotel is located, but they do run a good courtesy bus, & Saga run some good trips if a little expensive.

Room Tip: ROOM 504 is great, you must go above floor 3 for views

We've just returned from three weeks in this hotel in St Lucia. The hotel is owned by SAGA and caters mainly for folks aged 50 or over. The oldest person there while we stayed was in his 90's. The hotel is clean, well appointed with friendly, attentive staff. Food was plentiful and varied buffet style. Lulu's Cabana served light lunches, waiter service.

The hotel is at the top of a hill above Castries, has many stairs and steps and has NO lifts. Not suitable if one has difficulty in walking. There is NO gym, NO business centre, NO Spa (GREAT!). Lovely little pool. The all inclusive option is just that. No hidden extras - want a Singapore Sling before lunch? - the barman will make it for you!

Our room was large and well appointed with a balcony overlooking Castries and the sea. Maid service efficient and we were well looked after by housekeeping. The SAGA Rep was very much in evidence and was helpful and friendly to all guests

All in all a lovely place to stay.

Room Tip: All rooms in the main block face West. Two rooms at either end of the 4th floor have a private terra...

Had a great 14 nights holiday at the Bel Jou from April 8th.- weather typical tropical with a few showers but very warm. We had booked the previous July which meant we were able to fly with Virgin and preselect our seats at no additional charge. The flight out was excellent with the crew very attentive and all the services provided. However on the flight back the crew did not offer the pre-dinner service but went straight into serving dinner. I assume they wanted to switch off the lights and bed down for the flight as soon as possible. Not the standard expected.
The Bel Jou hotel was excellent with the staff extremely pleasant and attentive. The SAGA rep, Elizabeth, was superb and always available as well as organising some good activities like beach walks, croquet etc. and the gala dinners.
Apart from the gala dinners all meals were buffet type and was of a good quality and always piping hot. Breakfast was always the same with cereals.sausages, bacon, baked beans, tomatoes, fried potatoes. mushrooms and chef Dave was available to cook eggs any way required. Lunch was generally a full meal buffet in the main restaurant or lighter things like toasties, burgers.sandwiches etc. served in Lulus next to the pool.
On Sundays the lunch was only served in the restaurant and was a typical roast beef and yorkshire pudding affair which, for my palate, was too heavy a meal for mid day in 30 degrees heat - would have been more appreciated at night in the cooler evening.
The hotel was kept very clean with staff continually sweeping and cleaning. The rooms were very well equipped and the beds comfortable and serviced to a high standard.
The hotel ran shuttle buses to Castries and some of the local tourist spots which were free and were booked at reception.
The saga oraganisation was efficient but we were disappointed to find that some guests had been contacted and offered better deals if they moved they date back a week. Some were offered a third week for £100 and others had ended up paying only £1200 against our £1900
by moving their date. So much for SAGA's early booking price promise.
Ignoring this irritation, we really enjoyed the Bel Jou and would recommend it but watch what you pay.

We have just returned from the Bel Jou hotel after a 3-week holiday with Saga. Firstly let me say that the service from Saga and the hotel were first class in every way. A lovely BMW series 7 car picked us up from home but imagine our disappointment when this only took us to a services at Sheffield and we were transferred to a people carrier with another couple. It was impossible to sleep in this vehicle as it was uncomfortable and we had a long journey in front of us to Gatwick. As it was overnight we were very tired, so Saga this was not on. When we arrived at the hotel in St Lucia we were very pleased. We knew before we booked that there was no lift and as we had a lovely room on the 5th floor in the heat sometimes the stairs were a bit much. This is a lovely hotel, great food, the staff very efficient and the management very nice. Lots of sun beds in the garden and around the pool, certainly never had to go without one. With all inclusive drinks we did not have to spend money. The only downside of this hotel is the fact that we couldn't go out walking from the hotel as it is at the top of a very steep hill and we misses our usual early morning and evening walk. The hotel had minibuses to take us to the beach and always picked us up on time with a choice of times. The Saga rep was good and helpful. We had some good excursions and of course the weather was fantastic. The hotel is gated with a 24hour security so we felt very safe. If we were honest 2 weeks would have been just right but all in all a lovely restful holiday. Once again well done Saga and Bel Jou.

Room Tip: Room 501 perfect if you can manage the stairs

Contemplating two weeks at Bel Jou, Saga's own hotel might cause some people to think twice but any reservations I had were soon blown away by the excellent room overlooking the extensive gardens, (the pride and joy of Head gardener Eugene, make sure to take in his garden tour) the very friendly staff, the seamless and personal on site management, the cleanliness, the good food (its not just English) I enjoyed different fish dishes most days and the Caribbean chicken jerk was very tasty.
The wines, red, white and rose (I've bought the rose in Sainsburys) so its not just plonk! your glass always replenished by the ever watchful waiters.
Elizabeth the Saga rep was always helpful and to hand, even on her day off!
The complimentary bus service in to Castries, Vegi beach, Rodney Bay and Pigeon Island is ideal and punctual, no one would want to try and walk up those hills!
Of the optional excursions I'd recommend the 'Beautiful South', a good all day trip with the opportunity to snorkel/swim just off the beach, a party atmosphere is helped along by plenty of free rum punch with most of the passengers joining in the on board dancing.
Birds, birds and more birds, I saw all three of the island's humming birds in the garden plus many more, although they ask you not to feed them its difficult not to, I had a Antillean Bullfinch eating from my hand and from my balcony I saw possum and mongoose.
There's entertainment every evening, so for those of us of a certain age its ideal.
I'm planning on going back.

Room Tip: Being a solo traveller I had expected a 'singles' room however I got a double room, they all...

I have just spent 2 weeks at this hotel and found all the staff very friendly and helpful. The hotel is situated near the top of a hill, the road to the hotel has a lot of bends and is very steep. The free shuttle bus runs several time a day to the centre of Castries and beaches. The Saga representative, Elizabeth was very helpful. The optional trips out were very well organised, The food was good but not Caribbean, Sunday lunch in the main restaurant :- roast beef and Yorkshire pudding. Lunch was also served in the Cabana restaurant by the pool.Variety of sandwiches and fish and chips. The house wines were palatable. The rooms were very clean and air conditioning worked well. Location of the hotel was not to my liking, a bit isolated without any bars, snack bars or shops near the hotel.A pleasant relaxing place to stay. There are a lot of steps in the area.

Room Tip: The hotel does not have a lift, from a ground floor room in the main building there are three flight...
