my father and i just got back from the bel jou went for two weeks, 17/6/2014 to 1/7/2014, we were really dissappointed as we had read so many good reports, we found that their was not a very good selection of food on the salad bar at any meal time or any selection on yogurts/fruit at breakfast, the lunch and evening meals were poor as well, with food from previous meals being recycled, we found that the fire exit stairs were rusty and loads of leaves dried into steps very lethel for the elderly to of had to work down them in a fire, no sort of spraying to try and combat mosqito bites which everyone suffered with,we found that the air con units we covered in debri and water was chucked over were they were by the cleaners, so this did not help with humidity and mosqitos,we found the rep elizabeth how very biased and even camilla the manager agreed with this, as my father who is 82 was verbally abused by two female guests staying thier, and thier language was very ripe, they even lyed and were agressive to me about the situation, luckily we had witnesses to all of the above, the overall staff at the bel jou were fantastic they could not do enough for you, other people staying thier told us that they had stayed at saga places world wide and they had been fantastic compared to the bel jou and they said they were dissappointed for us as this was our first experience with saga, it wont put us off using saga again but thier will never be a return to the bel jou by us, also sick on a walk way thought i was at 18/30 not saga.

I had a thorough tour round this hotel while in St.Lucia and would just say it is not the side of the island I would want to stay. Think Saga have bought a white elephant as the building is very old and you are virtually cut off from the tourist areas. However, to each his own, but would not stay there myself as you are dependant on the bus service unless you hire a car.

The hotel is on the hill and the drive up to it is a wee bit hairy but once in the hotel reception you forget all about that. The restaurant is just by the reception and we were given a light breakfast as we had an early start. Lovely fresh fruit and croissant with choice of coffees or teas. Elizabeth, the full time Saga rep was very informative and made us feel very welcome.
Our room was on the fourth floor and the views were amazing. We had a lovely big shower in an adequate en-suite. Shampoo etc provided and was replenished throughout our stay.
Two double beds and a desk and easy chair in room with the most amazing lights. Then a door onto the small balcony with two chairs, and of course the view.
The hotel as on a hill and has a lot of stairs, not a worry to us but could be for some.
This is a Saga hotel and we soon realised we were among the youngest!
The swimming pool is small but for the number of people adequate.
Hotel provides all towels, for the room, the pool and to take to the beach, which was amazing.
Bus was provided free to take you to one of three beaches or into Castries. You booked your return trip too and they were always on time to pick you up. We had two trips included but only went on one, but Elizabeth offered local informative walks too, which we took up.
The food was amazing, buffet service, lots of choice and chef special cooked for you always very hot. One night we had the Gala Dinner when we were served at our tables and that was very special.
The pool bar had a small restaurant for lunch which was also waiter service and was fab.
The two bars alternated opening and they could make any cocktail you came up with, they also put a Bel Jou special cocktail on everyday. Oh did I mention it is all inclusive, and you can drink the water:-). Hummingbirds are encouraged by sugar water and while we were there we saw one nesting and it had two eggs the size of a chocolate button. Picture attached of the Hummingbird on its nest.
Entertainment was varied not always to our choice but most people liked it.
The local school for children with learning difficulties is sponsored by Saga and they came in and played some lovely songs for us one lunch time. They also made rag dolls that they sold to support the school.
As we booked Saga door to door we were also picked up from home, in Scotland and flown to Gatwick, via Glasgow all included in the list price! Now you cannot argue with that.
We did enjoy our stay, it is aimed at the mature market, if you like to relax and chill, and don't mind going on the bus to the beach then I highly recommend. And you get a packed lunch, if you order from reception which was amazing, Pringles, sandwich (specify if you want brown or white) or salad, apple and banana and water in a lovely cool bag, yum.
Pigeon Island on the free bus is a must, pay to go in the park and snorkel in the clear blue sea, as is the reasonably priced trip called the Beautiful South tour, to see Les Pitons. The trip to the Rainforest and the aerial tram ride were well worth it for the information and the views too.

Room Tip: Ask to be high up, you get to see more.

Just returned from 10day holiday at the Bel Jou, had a great time. Used Saga's door to door service to the UK airport & return, great as I live over 200 miles away. The hotel is excellently run, large bedrooms, well maintained grounds and facilities. Food buffet style most of the week with a good choice and variety. All the staff were very efficient and friendly, especially the Saga rep who worked above and beyond what would be expected. Free courtesy bus to Castries and to further beaches at Rodney bay and Pigeon Island, also free talks & demos at the hotel. Comprehensive island tours also available to book. The only slight negative was rather bland evening entertainment, but still had fun and met new people.

We have been lucky enough to visit Bel Jou on 3 occasions, staying for 3 weeks each time and are looking forward to returning in October after a two week stay in Antigua.Having stayed at several of the Caribbean Islands [Tobago,Barbados,Grenada..] each of them has their own charm and differences but the one thing you will always be sure of is the amazing hospitality, culture and food.
Bel Jou,for us is like going home with all the added comforts of being cared for whatever our needs.Yes,it is at the top of a long winding road and no,it is not on the beach BUT these things are clearly pointed out by SAGA in the brochure. There is a service bus to take you to Castries, the Duty Free outlet,Pigeon point and Rodney Bay but if you want to stay put and enjoy the beautiful gardens [courtesy of Eugene, his team and all their hard work] you will be lucky enough to watch the humming birds and may even see a nest with chicks in it as I did....
Lunch with Lulu and the girls and guys at The Cabana is a firm favourite for us and being by the poolside makes it perfect. If catamaran cruises are your thing then the sunset cruise with steel band is not to be missed,we do this wherever we can and this one is our favourite....will be doing it each week !!

Room Tip: Garden rooms are our favourite as they open out onto the garden...that's why they are called gar...

Just returned from 3 weeks at the Bel Jou, Saga door to door service brilliant on outward journey, but return left much to be desired, the use of a VW bus to transport tired guests on a 200+ mile trip is NOT a good idea.
The hotel was very good, food varied but mostly good, room very clean, bright & comfortable,
lots of steps but the brochure makes this very clear, we opted for the5th floor & had the best views ever, don't be put off by the mention of steps, opt for floor 4 or 5 to get the views , as the entrance, reception, dining ,pool area etc. is all on floor 3, so you get lots of steps to every floor(1__5), do remember to take sensible footware, flip flops are not a good idea on steps.
Elizabeth the Saga rep. is one of the best, so kind and helpful, and realy cares about her guests welfare. Camilla & Nivan the husband wife General Managment team set the best example ever seen, to their staff, and are always on hand should you have a hotel problem.,the local medical staff put our NHS to shame,I had to make use of both Doctor & Nurse and found them excellent
all in all a good holiday at a good price, the only draw back being where the hotel is located, but they do run a good courtesy bus, & Saga run some good trips if a little expensive.

Room Tip: ROOM 504 is great, you must go above floor 3 for views

We've just returned from three weeks in this hotel in St Lucia. The hotel is owned by SAGA and caters mainly for folks aged 50 or over. The oldest person there while we stayed was in his 90's. The hotel is clean, well appointed with friendly, attentive staff. Food was plentiful and varied buffet style. Lulu's Cabana served light lunches, waiter service.

The hotel is at the top of a hill above Castries, has many stairs and steps and has NO lifts. Not suitable if one has difficulty in walking. There is NO gym, NO business centre, NO Spa (GREAT!). Lovely little pool. The all inclusive option is just that. No hidden extras - want a Singapore Sling before lunch? - the barman will make it for you!

Our room was large and well appointed with a balcony overlooking Castries and the sea. Maid service efficient and we were well looked after by housekeeping. The SAGA Rep was very much in evidence and was helpful and friendly to all guests

All in all a lovely place to stay.

Room Tip: All rooms in the main block face West. Two rooms at either end of the 4th floor have a private terra...
