“The staff make this place”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 19 May 2011

The staff at Villa Beach Cottages are a credit to Colin they are warm, welcoming and friendly. They always had time to chat and were very helpful. We were travelling with a Toddler so a one bedroom apartment was ideal for us and a reason that we chose Villa Beach instead of a room in a hotel. We had a Standard room which was due to availabilty but would have preferred a Duluxe.
These are my postivies about villa beach
* Clean & pretty grounds
* Friendly staff and helpful owner
* Large rooms
* Right on the beach
But....i also have a few negatives
* Kitchen cupboards were full of equipment. Not sure that we needed even 1/2 of it,there was nowhere to put our food. Sorry a bit picky i know!!!
* Living room was in the bedroom not the kitchen. Not idea with a small child
*Beach had loads of bits of broken glass bottles lying around again not idea with a small child
* Resort would benefit from having a snack bar.

I've thou i have listed a few negatives this is a great place to visit.

Room Tip: Book a Deluxe

Unlike many resort promotions, Villa Beach Cottages in St. Lucia is exactly like the pictures and information portrays - and then some! Absolutely the place to relax, rebuildyour mind and rejuvenate your weary soul.The resort has a vividness of life that will snag your heart. We can attest without a doubt that Colin and his staff are a great part of the vividness and vitality, with sincerity that comes from the heart.
Neva, Nadia, Olivia, Austin, Sabbe, the wonderful ladies of housekeeping, St. George (who keeps the grounds immaculate with flowering beauty) - everyone of them has a smile that comes from their toes. Even if it is rainy, seeing a smile from anyone of them is like a sunny day in St. Lucia, and everyone of them gives their all to see that your time spent with them is the best they can provide.
Claudius and Moses provide the taxi service at Villa Beach - a delight to drive with, and full of information that they share with the love and provide they have for the Island. Car rentals are also available on site for those that want to tour the Island on their own Steven provides the ever pleasant and helpful security service along with his colleagues.
The informal chat with owner/manager Colin always makes us want to nail his shoes to the floor and keep him talking so we can learn more about the Island and the history of Villa Beach.
No matter which room/suite you are in, it has all the comforts of you might say-home- but how many of us have the Caribbean ocean at our front door, or the palm trees to gaze upon from our front or near the pool - a balcony or patio to dine on and toast the stunning sunset view?
Each suite has a kitchenette if you like to whip up a meal or blend your way into a few sunset Pina Coladas.BBQ's are available on site, along with TV, Internet cafe, laundry facilities and a small store. shopping Malls are close by for stocking up on groceries, wine,beer and other goodies. Ask about the "starter pack" which is just the thing to get you going on the day or morning when you arrive- coffee,tea,bread,fruit,etc.
It is a treat to hop onto the local buses right outside the resort and be greeted with "good morning" or "good afternoon" when you are seated, or at the market and chat with the locals - they are an amazing bunch of people with kind, strong hearts still trying to overcome the hardship of hurricane Thomas, which took a toll on every aspect of their livelihoods, yet still they can laugh and smile with you as the struggle to get their lives back on track.
Villa Beach Cottages is all the good things you have read about - and more. But the best way to find out is to come and check it out yourselves. You will find it has a good comforting heart and welcoming arms for weary souls. See you there on our nex 14th trip to our "home away from home"

We stayed in an upper villa for two weeks and had a fantastic holiday. Nothing was too much and the rooms were kept exceptionally clean every day.

We were given some fantastic recommendations for restaurants and day trips and tables and taxis were booked for us without any problem.

We used the bus every day outside that runs every couple of minutes and took no more than 10 minutes to get up to Rodney Bay. The bus back was also just as easy and all for no more than 50p.

It was great being able to have breakfast and lunch from food bought from the local supermarket and then go out somewhere fancy at night.

My only gripes would be that we were asked to pay for the use of the canoe at the end of the holiday that we had taken out to the island three or four times. We were not told of any cost for this at anytime and assumed it was free to use? Although they did then say they wouldnt charge us after discussing, it did leave a bit of a sour taste.

Finally, for a small cost the wireless internet could have a wider range and it would be great to be able to use the web on the balcony/bedroom.

I would definitely go back to Villa Beach Cottages, a fantastic place to stay with fantastic staff who really want to look after you.

Thank you Nadia, Colin and everyone at Villa Beach, including Moses who drove us every evening to dinner. We wanted a relaxing family beach vacation and that is exactly what we got with out a doubt it was magical. Our three sons were beside themselves with excitement at being so close to the beach. We stayed in a 2 bed deluxe and were not dissapointed as the rooms were clean and very well equiped with everything a family needs. We stayed 10 nights and then went off to the other side of the island to another resort but our three boys are still full of chat of waking up to the beach every morning. Thank you for the happy memories, great photos and I can assure you we will be back.

Great place to stay. Close to fantastic restaurants and shopping. Staff was incredible! They arranged tours, made reservations for restaurants...is there anything they can't do? The Villa is comfortable and well appointed. Very clean both in and out. You will not be sorry if you stay here. Make sure to visit La Dauphine Estate as well. Colin has done a fantastic job with both of these properties.

Room Tip: Book the Adventure Package...what a bargain!

The name does not do it justice. These are not cottages but lovely suites. The Derek Walcott second floor room was beautiful. Glad we had a full ocean view and would request this next time (vs looking through the trees and gazebo). Staff was incredible, helpul with recommendations. The kitchen is well equipped and we enjoyed breakfasts on our deck, and lunch taken out from the restaurant next door. The driver stopped at a store for us to pick up some food items before we got to the Villa Beach, which worked out really well. What can you say when the only annoying thing was waking to the pounding of the surf - life is tough! Actually the only negative was being situated right on the main road but this is overlooked when you are on the ocean side of the villas so we didn't find it to be a problem. Saw other negative comments about the nearby smaller airport but this was no issue whatsoever.
Enjoyed the recommended restaurants very much - Buzz in Rodney Bay, Coalpot in Castries (wonderful) and nearby Laurel's for more local flavour.
Pleasant hike up Pigeon Island. Went to Trim's for horseback riding, but understand there is another horseback riding in Rodney Bay and wished we had tried that one as the expectation for Trim's was not met.
As music was banned in some locations due to Lent, we would reconsider our timing next time.

We stayed for 4 nights in one of the de-luxe one bedroom cottages and found it excellent. We were upstairs with a verandah looking onto the beach and straight at the sunsets. As with all the St Lucians we met, the staff were very friendly and helpful.
It is a little disconcerting when you first arrive to find how close to a major road you are, but the cottages are hidden from the road by the small shop, launderette and internet rooms so you're not aware of the traffic. The beach is fairly exclusive, only really used by the neighbouring Sandals resort, but not suitable for snorkelling as the water is too cloudy. The pool however is fine and has a jucuzzi too.
As reported elsewhere there really is no easy way to eat out here. Bus, taxi or car must be used to get anywhere [either south into Castries or north to the Rodney Bay area]. Alternately you can walk [about 5 mins] to a supermarket and buy your own food as the kitchen facilities are very good.

Room Tip: Upstairs probably better less trees to spoil view
