“Superb get away venue”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 May 2013

This is a small resort with only 25 or so rooms compared with the hundreds in other resorts on the island. It is no coincidence that about half of those staying at the resort during our stay were American honeymooners! That tells you the seclusion and intimacy are high on the list of attributes.

This is a high quality resort with a superb staff who are genuinely interested in you and keen to provide for your every need. They could not have been more helpful and this goes to the majority of those we encountered on the island in general. It appears most of the population have recognised the importance of customer service and have decided to try and attract people back to the island.

The resort has a great setting on the west side of the island which is the better side weather-wise. With its own beach (not private but secluded), pool, superb restaurant with a very quality chef, and bars it provides for all you need. The staff are friendly and the atmosphere appropriately informal.

The rooms are great - we saw two because of a kind arrangement to allow us to book out late in the day for an overnight flight - and each has its own charm. Our main room was a swim-up suite which meant it was three or four swimming strokes from the bar! Plenty of room to sunbathe, very good spa treatments on site, and enough exercise to allow us to enjoy the excellent food and drink! Cocktails are an essential part of the Calabash diet and created an excellent friendly atmosphere with the other guests most evening at the pool bar.

Despite some inclement and unusual rain, we thoroughly enjoyed the resort and would strongly recommend it to those who want a quiet getaway - not for the night-life heavy-drinking people at all - there are plenty of other resorts for them!!

Room Tip: The middle two swim-up suites are slightly larger but all have a jacuzzi. The rooms above the swim...

We spent 7 nights at Calabash Cove over Easter and had a wonderfully relaxing time.

However, I think it's fair to point out that if you're the type of person who needs organised entertainment on their holiday, or if you're looking for lots of activities to join in, you'll probably be disappointed. This place is all about relaxation, good food, beautiful surroundings and attentive, yet unobtrusive service.

Before we left, I read a review that implied this was not a resort to bring children to but I must say that our 6 and 9 year old would strongly disagree! They had an amazing time here (being the only children in residence meant they were made a huge fuss of by the staff!) and they spent their days quite happily playing in the sheltered cove and the beautiful infinity pool.

Perhaps if your children are used to spending all day in a "kids club" on their holiday, this hotel might not offer them enough to do. They would also need to be fairly adventurous when it comes to trying new food as the menu was not particularly child-friendly. However, the chef happily provided smaller versions of the adult meals (with sauces on the side) so we personally did not find this to be a problem. In fact, we thought it was wonderful that the children got to sample lots of fresh fish and authentic local dishes!

The rooms, beach and grounds are immaculate and we cannot praise the staff enough for their kindness, attentiveness and hard work in making this a very memorable stay.

Room Tip: We stayed in a Bungalow a stone's throw away from the beach. Perfect for our family!

We spent a week at this fantastic resort at the beginning of March. We found it to be the perfect place for a relaxing vacation. Staff ,service and food were all excellent. Location was spectacular. Unlike "mnonthego" we cannot wait to return. We give it an all round 5 star rating.

Room Tip: Room 108 is a central location with a fabulous view from the balcony as in the photo.

This is definetly a 5 star resorts. the staff is so friendly and helpful in a professional way. They make you feel special and a non intrusive way.

The food is top gourmet food and wathever you pick is so well presented. You can also ask for changes and they will do it to your liking.

The accomodation is luxurious and comfortable. The views are fantastic. The resort is quiet and so relaxing.

I would go back in a heart beat!

Ask for Konrad, the manager to arrange your stay, you won't regret anything

Room Tip: the water edge cottage is worth the extra money. So beautiful, private and special.

Spent 14 nights in swim up suite #103 with my husband, next door to 'mnonthego' who recently reviewed this hotel and after reading their review I honestly can't believe we were staying in the same resort! I found all the staff to be polite, courteous and willing to help whenever they could. At breakfast each morning we just asked for what we wanted and it was brought with a friendly smile and we never once had to "beg" for juice! The gardens are immaculate and the beach is kept clean and tidy.Yes, it is just a cove, but this is a small price to pay for always having a lounger available at any time of the day. The beach and the pool are only used by the hotel residents and sometimes we had the beach and the pool all to ourselves. We ate in the restaurant several times and found the food to be excellent. We went for a relaxing holiday which is exactly what it was. It takes a couple of days to wind down into caribbean mode and this place helps you do just that! The hotel manager, Unita, went out of her way to make sure we had a good stay - even arranging a very late check out so we could make use of our room prior to a late BA return flight. Very impressed with the complimentary airport transfer at end of our stay (we used helicopter on the way in - highly recommended) using Audi limousine and great driver. All in all would highly recommend this resort to friends and family.

Room Tip: swim up suites 102 and 103 seem to be the best

Spent 4 nights in a swim up suite (#102) with my husband.

We enjoyed the welcome cocktail on Monday night (the day of our arrival) during which food and drinks were offered and we were able to meet and chat with the owner Konrad, the woman manager and other guests. The view from the restaurant/bar area was amazing.

Unfortunately, there is a serious issue with the staff at Calabash Cove.

The worst was breakfast. Be prepared: the waiter will come once to ask you if you want coffee and take your order and once again to deliver the orders. He will never ask you if you would like juice, another coffee, jam, nor will he come back during breakfast to ask if you need anything else. We had to beg for our juice every morning, it was painful and annoying.

Take my advice: Espressos and Cappucinos are available but will never be offered to you, you have to ask for it every morning. Same for fresh juices. It was so disappointing, especially since waiting staff at dinner were be so much better.

A couple of times we asked a waiter for a drink or food around the pool area and the answers we got were less than pleasant. Once I had to repeat my order 3 times to 2 different waiters. One guy was responsible for drinks and the other for food and it seemed they were not able to talk to each other about the order.

We thought the manager needs to be more involved with her staff because a lot of them looked like they lacked motivation. It rained a lot during our stay and no one thought of storing the sun loungers mattresses, so even 3 hours after the rain was over they were still wet and unusable.

The room was ok, quite small actually and no suitcase holders. Who needs a desk in a beach resort? I guess I do, since my suitcase ended up spending the whole time on it. Not convenient. Everything was very clean though.

The beach is tiny and there is only a small area for swimming. I would not have spent a whole week there, that is for sure. We spent only an afternoon at the beach and that was it.

There was only 2 bottles of water in the mini fridge and it was not refurbished the whole time we were there.

There is construction going on next door so if you don’t like to hear workers when you are lying by the pool, do not choose this hotel. The construction is just starting and judging by the way it was evolving during our stay, it is far from being over.

We were pretty disappointed especially since that this hotel could be so much better with a little effort.

Room Tip: Best Swim up suites are 102 and 103.

My husband and I were here for a week in September 2012 for our honeymoon. We could not have asked for a better experience. I'll start at the beginning:

--We took (and I would recommend taking) the helicopter (I think it was around $300--you can book through Calabash) from the airport to the resort. Cab or private car rides are long and bumpy. The helicopter was a bit shady looking, but it was fun with great views and a nice/informative pilot. You ride in a tight space with 6 people total. On the way back, we took a cab, which actually turned out to be a positive, as our flight was delayed. Our cab driver took us to a local BBQ shack by the road to kill time, and it was amazing.

--The resort is small. It is secluded without much going on. Which was fabulous for our taste. This is definitely for people that want to have a very isolated, lots-of-alone-time, relaxing vacation with good food and fabulous pools. The Wind Jammer and Sandals are on either side (I think) and those are moreso for families/kids. We stopped at each during cab rides to pick up others for excursions and each time I was so happy I was at Calabash instead.

--We stayed in a private cabin. It was cabin #2 and I'm told it is one of the best. It's on the far side without others near it, and no one was in cabin #1, so we had the entire area to ourselves. Very secluded and fabulous with great views.

--Note: It's not kid-friendly or activity heavy. You can book activities or excursions through the resort, but it is not actually onsite. A cab or van will come to get you for the activity/excursion. This place is for seclusion and relaxation. No pools/toys/or special kid items (thank goodness). would not recommend bringing kids or large groups. Note: you do not need to book activities, meals, or excursions in advance. You can book them with the concierge onsite.

--The staff was wonderful. We often sat alone in the open-air bar upstairs in the main dining area with Lily, the bartender, joking and laughing. Lance at the pool bar is sort of a wild card (not always at the bar when you need him), but friendly and funny. The woman manager (forgot her name) was friendly and checked in on us when she saw us. All staff members made an attempt to remember names and information about the guests.

--The food was wonderful. We did the all-inclusive, and it's worth it. Breakfast delivered to our patio (you can also eat breaky at the restaurant), lunch on our patio or at the restaurant, and same with dinner. Note that the room service menu is not the full menu, and is sometimes slow. If you want the best food, make the trek up to the restaurant, which is large and open-air. The prime minister of St. Lucia was randomly there one night as well. Great fish, great dessert, overall amazing.

--We felt the all-inclusive was DEFINITELY worth it. But we're big drinkers/eaters :)

--Our excursions were neat. We did snuba (it was mediocre), but the rain forest zip lining with the amazing Peterson (guide) was the best. Peterson was friendly, knowledgeable, and really informative. We also kayaked with Calabash's two-seater kayaks.

--Beach is small and water is a "meh" color. Most guests stayed at the pool area instead. Not the island to visit if you're looking for vast, white-sand beaches and crystal blue water.

--The cabins each have a plunge pool and outdoor shower (our favorite!) Maid staff is great. The full bar for the all-inclusive is great. We were barely able to make a dent. My husband enjoyed the Piton local beer.

--Temporary negative: On day 3 or 4, construction on the lot next to Calabash began. It was loud and an eyesore. Unfortunately, the Calabash can do NOTHING about it, which is very sad, because the managers weren't happy either, and were apologetic. I would call to check on the construction before booking.

Overall, we LOVED it. The ONLY (permanent) drawback was the mosquitoes! But totally worth the million bites we got. We want to go back here for our 5th anniversary. Can't wait!

Room Tip: I highly recommend a private cabin. We were in cabin #2 and felt it was the best location.
