Our stay in St. Lucia was 2 weeks, December 8 - December 22, 2013. My husband searches the internet for days/weeks looking for vacation getaways and St. Lucia was one that was always very high on his list. Having said that, we do not like to vacation at resorts. We much prefer to have kitchen access and prepare our own meals. We do eat out occasionally to ensure we experience the local cuisine. We came to St. Lucia for rest and relaxation, which is exactly what we got. Having lost my father earlier in the year, we wanted to bring my mother with us for a get away. Having said that, my mother is scheduled for a knee replacement in February so mobility is an issue. This villa was perfect to suit her needs/restrictions. Having the pool on site was a definite bonus and we sat poolside often. We utilized both the front and the back balconies. In the morning, late afternoon and evening we would sit on the back balcony and enjoy the views, which I must say were spectacular. If we were not out site seeing, we would often sit on the front balcony in the early afternoon to read as it provided shade from the hot mid-day sun. The villa's were exceptionally clean, well appointed, well equipped and came stocked with a bottle of wine, some basics such as sugar etc. and some cold water bottles in the fridge. Janine, who I must say is one of the most accommodating people I have ever dealt with, was exceptional at her job and ensured anything we needed or any questions we had were taken care of. She visited us a few times during our stay to ensure all was good, and it certainly was. We rented a car, and Janine took care of that as well. We were picked up from the airport and requested a car for the following day. It arrived at the villa the next morning. I highly recommend renting a car if you like to explore, keeping in mind it's a right hand drive so you have to be accustomed to it. We make good use of the car and explored the island from one end to the other. During our explorations we often commented on other properties that we saw in passing, but we all concurred that we could not have made a better choice and would return to the same villa if returning to St. Lucia. We visited a few local restaurants and must say, they were all excellent. We loved "The Pink Plantation House" settled on 2 acres up on the hill in Castries just past the government house. The views were spectacular, the lunch was amazing, as was the service. The bill was extremely reasonable as well. Tonight, we are going to "The Coal Pot" to experience the original method of cooking on the island. If you're adventurous, while in St. Lucia u can climb the "Gross PIton" the most amazing view imaginable. It was definitely a challenge and was much more than a nature hike. Be prepared the descend is much much harder than the climb up. We also had lunch at the "Bayside Restaurant" located at "Sugar Beech Resort". We spent the day on the beech there and had lunch. The food was also amazing and we got to see what staying in a luxury resort would be like, only from the outside in. Again, we all concurred, we had made the right choice with the villa and the peace and quiet was invaluable. The location to grocery stores and restaurants was perfect and our excursions to the grocery store on the strip proved to be enlightening as to the cost of importing many of the foods to St. Lucia. Back at the resort, Shada was always there if you needed him but not visible if you didn't. We really enjoyed his company and he is a wealth of information and very happy to share. He couldn't be any more accommodating or more pleasant. So, as you can see, staying at Bonneterre, Gros Islet is nothing short of the most accommodating, relaxing, comfortable, breathtaking places to stay while in St. Lucia and we would highly recommend it to anyone visiting St. Lucia. To Janine and Shada, "a huge thank you" for all you do, your service is far more than superior. I must also note, thank you to the cleaning staff, the villa's are exceptionally clean, you also do an amazing job and should be commended.
