“A Perfect Place to Renew our Vows and one of the Most Relaxing Place on Earth!”
Reviewed 23 August 2012

This was mine and my husband’s first visit to the East Winds, and we were there for a week from Sunday, August 5th to Sunday, August 12th, but immediately upon arrival it was obvious why so many people keep coming back over and over. We choose to take the helicopter transfer from the International airport after our long flight to the island, and we quickly arrived to the East Winds within an hour of landing. We were greeted at reception with cold towels and rum punch while we waited for our room, Ocean View #29, to be ready. After a few minutes we were escorted away from reception and were given a tour of the property before we were taken to our room.
Our Room: We wanted to stay in one of the ocean view rooms since they were located closest to the beach and we were not at all disappointed. Our room was full of Caribbean charm. We had a king sized bed that we enjoyed laying in with the balcony doors open so we could be serenaded by the crashing ocean waves. The room had air conditioning; although we found that we didn’t need it all that often if we had the balcony doors open. A nice breeze always came in off of the ocean and we never had issues with being bitten by bugs. The bathrooms were galley style, long and skinny. We’re pretty small people so we didn’t have any issues maneuvering around each other in the bathroom, but I could easily see how it could be a tight fit for someone who might be larger. The room also had a dresser/vanity with a chair, as well as a refrigerator stocked with beer (Heineken and Piton), sodas, and water, as well as a pantry which had coffee and team. The balcony doors opened onto a small patio with seating and a table where we often lounged and enjoyed the view. The four ocean view rooms are a part of a remodeled beach house, so there is an open-air Card Room that is shared between the rooms. We used this room several times during our stay, especially on the few days that were very rainy, but none of the other guests staying in the ocean view rooms seemed too. We really enjoyed having the space.
The Food: We enjoyed every meal, from the tasty breakfasts where Auntie Paula made us omelets, French toast and pancakes to order. Lunches were buffet style and delicious as well and there were always several options to choose from. Our favorite lunch was on Saturday where we were served an amazing seafood paella while listening to the sounds of a local steel pan band. Dinners were always wonderful, and there were always vegetarian options (which I appreciated). Each evening dinner was started off with a tasty amuse-bouche before leading into the rest of the meal, and we enjoyed each evening’s entertainment, from the sounds of a pianist, a trombone & sax duo, a folk group, etc. We thought the Friday night bar-b-que was very good, and different from the rest of the dinners we had enjoyed over our stay. There were always plenty of wines to choose from each night, and they were served liberally. On our final night, we were sat at a private gazebo decorated in flowers for our anniversary and found it to be very romantic.
The Beach: There were plenty of sun huts scattered throughout the beachfront and we never had issues getting one. There was none of the towel game that you see at other resorts going on here. The beach is small but beautiful and you can do some easy snorkeling right off the beachfront where we saw plenty of fish, star fish and crabs. There is a beachfront bar that is only a quick walk away from the huts and we didn’t mind getting up every once in a while to grab our own drinks if we wanted them.
The pool: This was a comfortable sized pool which included a self-serve swim-up bar. My husband is a bartender for a living so we never had issues making our own drinks. For those guests who don’t have their own personal bartender, the East Winds also had a drink recipe tacked up in the pool bar so people could experiment with making their own.
Activities: We decided to scuba dive and hike Gros Piton during our stay, and we also each got massages. The reception set up the Gros Piton hike for us easily and we enjoyed that experience immensely. The massages for easily scheduled through reception as well, which we planned for the day after our Gros Piton hike, and the masseuse that provided the service was excellent. We arranged the scuba diving ourselves, with reception’s guidance, as you really only have to walk down the beach to the dive shop located on the Windjammer property to set up a dive trip. We never took out one of the hobie cats or kayaks, but they were easily accessible from the staff at the watersports area. Finally, my husband and I renewed our wedding vows on our anniversary, Friday, and everyone made the day so special for us. The spot on the beach where the ceremony took place was stunning. They really went all out to make the occasion really special for us and we couldn’t have been happier.
The staff – A HUGE thank you to EVERYONE, from the ladies at reception, the bartenders and restaurant staff, the chefs, the housekeepers, Gareth the general manager, the grounds keepers, etc. We did not meet a single person on the staff that wasn’t kind, helpful or charming. This place is so wonderful in big part to the staff and all the work they do. I don’t want to list out names because I am worried I would forget someone, and everyone at the East Winds is too amazing to forget!
Finally, I would recommend this place in a heartbeat if you are looking for a relaxing and low-key Caribbean experience. You can do as much or as little as you want, and the whole experience is luxurious without being pretentious. We loved every moment of our stay and by the end of the week we wished we could have stayed longer. We will definitely be back to stay with our friends at the East Winds again!!!

Room Tip: The Ocean View rooms offer beautiful views!

THANK YOU FOR THE PERFECT AND DETAILED REVIEW

We greatly appreciate the time you have taken to post such a wonderful and detailed review of your one week stay at East Winds Inn, planning to relax and renew your wedding vows. From a careful reading of your posting, it is clear you have caught the essence of East Winds, and that your expectations were met through such comments as “the whole experience is luxurious without being pretentious”. The positive remarks about so many aspects of the resort, including the rooms, the pool, bars, dining experience, the beach and entertainment are very gratifying. Most importantly, you have identified the true strength of East Winds Inn – the staff – by stating “We did not meet a single person on the staff that wasn’t kind, helpful or charming. This place is so wonderful in big part to the staff and all the work they do…….everyone at the East Winds is too amazing to forget!”

You summarize by confirming “I would recommend this place in a heartbeat if you are looking for a relaxing and low-key Caribbean experience” – that is a very flattering comment, as is your desire to return with friends and the fact that you “loved every moment” of your stay. We look forward to providing you and your friends the same level of friendly service.

Thank you for your generous support of East Winds Inn – we hope to see you again soon.

We have just returned from the most amazing week at this hotel and I cant fault it. From the minute we arrived and I had a glimpse of this breathtaking resort, I knew we were in for a great stay. We went straight to check in and were offered a glass of champagne and an icy cold flannel, the hotel manager came out of his office to personally welcome us and we were then escorted on a tour around the grounds, champagne in hand ending up in our cottage, The attention to detail from the gardens to the food never ceased to amaze me, I loved absolutely everything here. We were treated to a private honeymoon dinner on the beach which was a meal I will never forget. The staff were fabulous throughout and happy to fulfil any special requests we had. We were supposed to check out at 12 but our transfer wasn't until 12.45 and we were told we could have our room until then and even have some lunch which was great. I felt really special throughout our stay and that is rare these days in any resort. I would recommend East Winds to anyone.

THE MOST AMAZING HONEYMOON REVIEW – THANK YOU

How delightful to receive such an enthusiastic and positive review relating to your honeymoon week at East Winds Inn. From your arrival with champagne in hand to your extended check out, it seems that everything was to your expectations. The statement “I loved absolutely everything here” is an excellent summation of your feelings, and your enjoyment of “the private honeymoon dinner on the beach which is a meal I will never forget” is truly rewarding for all the “fabulous staff” who clearly enjoyed making your stay so unique.

The fact you felt so special during your entire stay is what we strive for, as is your comment “I would recommend East Winds to anyone”. What more could we ask for than that, except of course, a return for your first anniversary?

Thank you for your gracious support of East Winds Inn, and we wish you a joyous life together, filled with years of health and happiness.

We chose to visit East Winds after reading the excellent reviews on Trip Advisor and they were all correct! We visited in June and we are late writing the review because we are only just coming to terms with not still being there and drinking champagne every evening :(
We received a very warm welcome and then were taken to our beautiful room. We had booked the standard room and it was perfect. It doesn't have air conditioning and we didn't need it at the time we visited as the fan was very effective but we were offered a portable unit if we wanted it. The service throughout the resort was excellent - all of the staff were incredibly friendly and everywhere was always spotless. The food is very good and varied but the BBQ nights are a highlight particularly the steak. The wine selection each evening was also excellent. We were very well looked after in the bar by Anna, Titus and Leron and we know much more about (and appreciate) rum.
St Lucia is a lovely island and the locals are very helpful and friendly and not at all pushy - you feel safe travelling and the buses are very frequent, cheap and easy to use.
We did two trips and would strongly recommend both - 1) jeep to Soufries and back on the boat as you see lots of the island and it is a very informative tour; 2) flight to the Grenadines and then a boat around the islands and swimming with the turtles - it was amazing.
You need to visit the Jump Up on a Friday night and go with Paul and his taxi as then you know how you are getting back. We don't recommend the local rum (or certainly no more than one and ideally not 3) but you should make up your own mind!
The hobby cats at the hotel are good fun and after some very clear tuition from the water sport supervisors we learnt a new skill - they are very easy to use. Snorkelling is also very rewarding and you don't have to go far out to see lots of beautiful fish. The pilates instruction was also very good and we felt the benefit.
Basically this is one of the best holidays that we have ever had and we will definitely be back as we are concerned that lots of the places that we go to after this won't live up to the experience.

WONDERFUL, WISHFUL REVIEW GREATLY APPRECIATED

Thank you for the lovely posting related to your recent stay in beautiful St. Lucia, at East Winds Inn. We appreciate you stating that you chose East Winds based on the many positive reviews on this website, and especially the fact that you felt they were all correct! Your favourable comments about the service provided by the “incredibly friendly staff”, the “spotless” condition of the resort, the very good food and wines, and the champagne each evening are most flattering. Your enjoyment of the Pilates classes was also noted, and you hopefully tried the yoga as well. We love that fact that you clearly fell in love with St. Lucia and its people as so many do – that is why it is referred to as “The Helen of the West Indies”.

It is also gratifying to see that you took the time to discover other nearby places that are part of a true Caribbean experience – the Grenadines trip is certainly one to remember for a lifetime. As you surmise, “this is one of the best holidays that we have ever had and we will definitely be back as we are concerned that lots of the places we go to after this won’t live up to the experience”. That is very kind of you – thank you for that also.

We hope to see you again very soon, and look forward to welcoming you back to the small resort with a big heart.

We stayed at East Winds with our 2 teenage children (17 &13) in mid July and had a fabulous time. We had arrived with high expectations after reading the great reviews on trip advisor and I am pleased to say that we were not disappointed. We were greeted with cold towels and a refreshing drink and quickly transferred to our room. We had adjacent deluxe rooms which connected via the terrace and these were spacious and cool with more than enough storage space. One tiny criticism was that the rooms were a little dark . The bathrooms were spacious (although not a/c) and the semi open shower was fabulous.

The grounds of the hotel were beautiful and the pool area and beach were both lovely with plenty of sun loungers and a cold drink was always only a step away. Both were great places to swim and were never crowded. Mostly it was peaceful but there was occasionally noise from the neighboring Windjammer Hotel

Many people have spoken about the quality of the food and it was of a high standard. We preferred the 4 course meal to the BBQ evening but that was our personal preference. The wines were generally nice and glasses were topped up regularly. The lunchtime buffet was always excellent with plenty of delightful dishes to choose from. Entertainment was low key and this suited the relaxed atmosphere of the hotel.

So if you want a totally relaxing holiday in a small but beautiful resort then East Winds is the perfect choice

Room Tip: Definitely choose a room with air con

THANKS FOR THE EXCELLENT RELAXED REVIEW

We greatly appreciate the highly favourable review of your recent family stay at East Winds Inn. To hear that your expectations were high is not a surprise to us, given our ranking as the number one all-inclusive resort in the Caribbean region as rated on this website. That is a difficult expectation for our staff to continually meet, but judging by your review as well as the many other exceptional reviews we have been so fortunate to receive over the past few years, they are doing an excellent job in looking after guest needs. Perhaps an even better indicator is the number of repeat visitors we receive every year – constantly increasing over the past five years as stated in many of the reviews of East Winds Inn.

The many positive superlatives you have used in your posting are most encouraging – we are pleased to see that you enjoyed so many aspects of the resort. You closing line sums it all up nicely – “if you want a relaxing holiday in a small but beautiful resort, then East Winds is the perfect choice.” That is why many of our guests refer to East Winds as the small resort with a big heart.

Thank you for your support of East Winds Inn, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

This was my 3rd time to St Lucia and 2nd time to East Winds (my partners 16th), once i stayed at East Winds i wouldn't go back to St Lucia unless it was to there. The first time I stayed at East Winds was the moment we decided that was were we wanted to get married there and we are more then ecstatic we did. Our wedding could not have gone any better and all the staff were very much more then accommodating, nothing was to much for them to do for us, and this was made very clear by the effort that went into making our day perfect from the petals on the raised heart on the beach to the way our personal Wedding dinner table was laid out with every care to detail taken, it was our dream wedding and more. The way we were treated was as if we were an extension of a family. The staff were absolutely perfect and the hotel was exemplary in every way. no member of staff was ever to busy to attend to your requests, all of them are so happy and cheery (its so infectious) and definitely makes you feel so so welcome.

We toke our 14 month old son with us and the hotel provided a cot for him, before we arrived i was literally just expecting a fold out travel cot to be provided, but we actually got a full sized proper wooden cot supplied by the hotel. The deluxe room is more the adequate for anyone on holiday it is very spacious and the sunken shower in the bathroom is very luxurious and with i small private view over the gardens makes for a perfect relaxing shower. The hotel overall is kept to the highest of standards and cleanliness, the gardeners were out every day keeping the gardens and the flowers in perfect condition, the maids were always polite and very helpful, the beach and water sports area was always clean and tidy and the BBQ and restaurant were clean and tidy the whole time and the bar is the perfect distance from your sun lounger on the beach to be able to get your self a quick refreshing drink. With our 14 month old son experimenting with new food was a little difficult sometimes as he did not like some of the gourmet food which was so professionally served, in cases were he did not like the food the chief was more then happy to serve him an omelette or some thing light and if i needed this before dinner was served (as i did a couple of times) they were more then prepared to cook early for my little one.
The restaurant and bar staff were the staff we see the most of and they made the holiday/honeymoon very memorable, they are all lovely people to be around and by treating others how you would like to be treated i feel you got the best from them. I would like to name and thank every one individually but there are just so many of you.

In conclusion if your going to St Lucia, East Winds Inn is the place you need to be for a nice, quite, (but also family friendly) Caribbean experience.

Room Tip: Go for the deluxe room (the others are perfect also) but we've always preferred the Deluxe.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR THE PERFECT WEDDING REVIEW

What more can we possibly say other than a heartfelt “thank you” for the lovely posting relating to your recent wedding at the water’s edge of East Winds Inn. The fact your new spouse had already visited East Winds Inn a total of 16 times, and this was your second visit, states a great deal about your confidence in the resort as well as your potential expectations for this most special of days. And it is evident from all your favourable comments and numerous positive superlatives, that you were most pleased with the outcome. We are all so flattered to receive this type of positive feedback, for as you are aware, without the dedicated staff whom you’ve come to know so well, the experience just could not be the same.

We greatly appreciate you pointing out all the special elements of your wedding day and celebration afterwards – all the staff strive to provide you with the greatest of personalized service in order to make every aspect of this event so memorable. Your acknowledgement that everyone was treated in the manner which you like to be treated is our guiding principle – the simple golden rule – which is so appropriate for a wedding celebration. Thank you for that as well, and for all the support your extended family has shown us over the years, now to be hopefully continued through the next generation.

May we wish you all the happiness you deserve in your new lives together, and we look forward to your eventual return to East Winds Inn – the small resort with a big heart (as you experienced first-hand).

If you haven't been to East Winds on St Lucia, and feel in need of a totally relaxing holiday, then i would recommend you book it now. If you have been, then like the other 99.8 percent of visitors you are probably dreaming of planning a return trip. The place exceeds it's high class billing - attention to detail is everywhere, and the staff are just fantastic. That so many of them have worked at east winds for so long is excellent and a big part of the relaxed feel of the place. We visited for ten days at the end of July (with my wife and son and his girlfriend.) We had 2 deluxe rooms 22 and 23. The rooms were spotless, the beds huge and comfortable, and the large open air shower superb. I was pleased that the room had air conditioning. The grounds were immaculate and the view from the beach loungers amazing. Food and drink were all of extremely high quality and i loved the mix of local Caribbean and international fare. If I had one suggestion it would be that during the uk summer holidays when there were quite a few families with children, possibly a buffet or more child friendly evening meal could be offered as standard. Having said that on a couple of occasions we did ask for an alternative, and the chef was very accommodating.
Having eaten amazingly well, the sea and pool were both great places to swim, and we really enjoyed learning to sail. The 2 water sport guys were patient and very cool. Sailing the hobie cat in such nice waters a great memory.
Although we had come mainly to relax and recuperate we also wanted to see the island - and Desmond - a taxi driver with a 40 year association with east winds provided a great day out, and really did seem to know everyone on the island. East Winds provided an awesome packed lunch.
My wife mentioned that she loved a chick pea dish one evening and the chef came out with a foil wrapped selection of the spice mix he used. I may be able to recreate the dish at home, and have already had a go at a few of the cocktails scribbled off the menu card whilst we enjoyed a drink each evening on the way back from the beach. However it will be impossible to recreate the ambience of east winds - so we will certainly be back - the only question is when?

Room Tip: I can only comment on the deluxe rooms and they were excellent, however everything at east winds was...

A MUST READ REVIEW – THANK YOU

We greatly appreciate your glowing review of the 10 days spent at East Winds Inn this July with your family. It is most heartwarming to read statements such as “the place exceeds its high class billing - attention to detail is everywhere, and the staff are just fantastic”. These comments, from a Senior Reviewer on this website, have a great deal of meaning and validity. The fact you noted that many of the staff have worked at East Winds Inn for decades is also helpful for would be guests, and the numerous superlatives which you used to describe the spotless rooms, the large king sized beds and unique open showers are most informative.

Your acknowledgement of the immaculate grounds and distinct Caribbean views from the beach demonstrate that you are well travelled, as was your appreciation of the varied cuisine and high quality drinks. The activities you partook in, including an island tour and the hobie cat sails, are very popular with most of our guests.

Ending by stating that no matter how you might try, it will be impossible to recreate the ambiance of East Winds Inn – thereby setting the stage for your imminent return, is more than we could ask for.

Thank you for such a wonderful and thorough review – as noted, you will hopefully be one of the 99.8 percent of the East Winds dreamers who actually does come back to experience it all over again.

We spent a wonderfully relaxing fortnight at the East Winds with our teenage daughter in mid July. We stayed in one of the deluxe rooms (No 11) which was very well furnished with plenty of storage space even for three of us. The bathroom is spacious with a spectacular shower area. Although we did have a slight plumbing problem one day, a very friendly and efficient maintenance team sorted it out immediately. The meals were excellent and served by staff that never stop smiling - in fact that applies to all the hotel staff who are all determined to make sure you enjoy your stay. Our daughter celebrated her 17th birthday during our stay and we dined that evening in a beautifully decorated gazebo covered with flowers, lights and shells. The chef also made a delicious chocolate birthday cake; it was a truly memorable evening. The water sports guys were excellent teaching my husband and daughter to sail a Hobie Cat. The Pilates classes were great fun particularly as Nikita the instructor was so delightful, definitely worth trying. We did find the yoga classes a little too intense for us but other guests did enjoy it more. As for the island, St Lucia is one of the most beautiful Caribbean islands we have visited and well worth exploring. It was a wonderful holiday so thank you Gareth and all the staff at the East Winds for making our visit to East Winds so memorable.

TRULY MEMORABLE REVIEW MOST APPRECIATED

Your positive review of a two week stay at East Winds Inn, together with a 17 year old teenage daughter who celebrated her birthday, is very gratifying for all the staff who helped make it such a memorable experience. Mention of the excellent meals, the genuine service with a smile, all of the activities including the Pilates and yoga classes, as well as the hobie cat sailings, underscores all the facilities there are available to pass the time at East Winds Inn.

Of course, none of these would have the same meaning without happy and committed staff, and as you point out, that is really East Winds’ strength. Your acknowledgement of the beauty of St. Lucia is also special, as the entire island is a true paradise like no other.

Thank you for posting such a positive review, and we look forward to welcoming you back to the small resort with a big heart.
