“Perfection is tough to beat!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 October 2009

The start to our St. Lucia holiday was not auspicious – a six-hour mechanical airplane delay in Toronto resulted in a post 10 pm arrival at East Winds. It was tough to take after the redeye flight from Calgary the previous night. From there on in everything was exceptional – Gareth’s friendly greeting upon arrival; luggage whisked away to our charming and very comfortable room; fruit & sandwich platter awaiting to appease our palates after the long journey; a quick walk on the lovely beach and finally our discovery tour of the dining facilities to find the charming & engaging Titus in residence serving in the Bamboo Lounge.

Throughout our two week stay, some themes were constant – the wonderful serenity of the resort, the incredible staff, the amazing cuisine & beverage service, soothing and varied entertainment, lovely beach with the private palm gazebos, beautiful gardens, lively social interaction with the other guests. Two of these themes deserve repetition – STAFF and CUISINE. To give credit to the staff by name would be too lengthy but suffice it to say we were most impressed by their friendliness and attention to detail. They are exceptional! As for the dining experience we can only say one must experience it personally – check out the local fishing boats landing on the East Winds beach midday delivering the FRESH catch. A word of caution – pace yourself if you do not have an expandable wardrobe.

While we did not feel compelled to leave the resort, we did tour St. Lucia somewhat. We quite enjoyed the sailing to Soufiere, the local bus rides to Rodney Bay, and the wander through the Saturday market in Castries. Somehow we missed the rainforest excursions but that will happen on a future visit.

To be candid for a moment – East Winds is definitely not for all. As a small resort it clearly knows its focus appealing to the discriminating traveller. Do not visit if you expect action packed activities dawn to dusk or super luxurious appointments of the facilities! If your tastes lean to the unpretentious, friendly, and complete enjoyment, East Winds is for you.

Unfortunately we were too early to be able to take full advantage of the new yoga and games facilities (we did manage to sneak in some ping pong games) and the exercise track around the whole site (certainly walked the proposed route without the exercise stations in place). FORTUNATELY these facilities are now in place, which gives us another reason for returning to East Winds – as if we needed one!

While we are seasoned travellers having visited all seven continents, East Winds was our first experience with a TRULY all inclusive resort. The benchmark has been set – rather than seek an alternative we will definitely return to East Winds in the near future – perfection is tough to beat!

Just returned from our holiday to East Winds and we were not disappointed!
The service and food were as good as ever and I was surprised (although I shouldn't be!) at how many repeat guests there were! This was our fifth visit to East Winds so you can imagine our surprise to find that we were outdone by a couple who were on their 8th visit a family from Switzerland who were on their 12th!! visit.
Oh well we just have to keep going to see if we can catch them up!!

We were met by Gareth on arrival and he made us feel at home straight away. Once you read the other reviews there is not much to add as everything and everyone is so perfect at the East Winds.
The whole two weeks we spent at the East Winds were very relaxing with our daily walk down the beach and across to the Windjammer hotel, which makes you realise what you could have ended up with! The Windjammer packs in their guests like sardines with their rooms having been built on the side of a very steep hill. The East Winds bungalows are lovely in every way. We were in a deluxe room which have a large veranda to sit on and enjoy the lovely gardens. Inside was a super room with A/C, TV and large semi open-air shower room.
Nothing was too much trouble and I would definitely return in the future.
The only negative points are the 90 min taxi ride from the airport (we took at helicopter one way which is 12 mins) and the local St Lucian’s (out of the hotel) are quite intense when it comes to begging for money and being quite intimidating.

My Husband and Phil and I have been lucky to visit East Wind's twice in the past , both a few back now and I can't imagine a more heavenly place to be on vacation that there I really can't wait to return now that it is under new ownership, I hope that you have not change things too much!
Living in the UK the times we visited East Winds we were lucky enough o be 'Child free' and I loved every minute of the time spent there, The Staff were fantastic ,Ricky I will always remember along with Barkus and Gareth.
Lobster B-B-Q's to the sound of the sea rolling across the sand. The fantastic food, fish that we saw being hauled in from the sea that day and then on the menu that evening,.. heaven! Oh and the Conch soup, Wow!!
We know live in the USA and after writing this review am now planning our return with child this time..

This is the perfect get-away-from-it-all place with a quiet, understated elegance. The staff is outstandingly helpful and gracious, the food is amazing...fresh, well executed, and simply delicious! If you are looking for marble bathrooms, plush rooms, non-stop scheduled activities, and rowdy bars this is NOT the place for you. If you are looking for the ultimate Carribbean experience where YOU are relaxed and well taken care of, then this IS the place for you. We were so enthralled with East Winds Inn that we didn't even go tour the island...saw the Pitons from our plane and that was good enough for us. East Winds Inn is truly a gem!

we spent 7 days at the east winds in july 09, the hotel thoroughly lives up to its reputation.
Food was excellent, as was the service, formal in the evening but laid back at breakfast and lunch . We went on spend another seven days on another island, and although the stay was enjoyable we were spoiled at the east winds. The differences mainly were in the quality of the food and service, the qualty and variety of wine, the friendly approach by the staff, all inclusive actually was all inclusive. I think the only thing better in the second week was the comfortable bed. We had a 15 year old with us who also prefered the first week,
