“Great Value for money.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 January 2014

I stayed in December and it was my 1st stay at this hotel. I love St. Lucia but normally stay with locals. The hotel is in a fantastic location right on the beach and for a 3* hotel was good value for the price. There was always plenty of food including local dishes. The staff are excellent and the manager - Eddie is always visible and very friendly and helpful. The staff made my holiday, as it was a work/holiday trip. Keep up the good work!

Thank you for choosing Rex Resorts and we are happy you decided to stay with us this time.
We do try and have as many local dishes as well keeping in line with international cuisine and we are very proud of our staff here and will convey your comments on to our team.
We look forward to seeing you again and hopefully you will choose us again over the locals!

We stayed 26th November - 3rd December and it was our 7th stay but first all inclusive. We always return as the hotel is in a fantastic location right on the beach and for a 3* hotel was good value for the price we paid. We ate early and there was always plenty of hot food including local dishes. The changes we noticed this time were less evening entertainment and less security around the site including at the exits to the beach.
The reception, restaurant, bar and cleaning staff were very friendly and helpful and the room was always cleaned well and towels replenished. The room itself was basic but perfect overlooking the sea.

The hotel is within walking distance of nightlife, restaurants, casino and shops with the main town of Castries and the party town of Gros Islet just a short cheap bus ride away.

Thank you for choosing Rex Resorts again and we were pleased to welcome you back. We are happy you decided to go all inclusive this time and are glad you enjoyed it.
During the time of your stay the occupancy was very low so we had reduced some of our entertainment. We have since brought back all the entertainment and we have our usual live bands, steel band and dancers etc. The security, we still have, just not as visible in certain areas. With having a police station right next to the property it means we have that added security.
We do have the best beach and location in St Lucia and we are very proud to be positioned here.
We look forward to welcoming you back for your 8th visit.

We stayed here from 8th - 22nd December. I have to be totally honest, we were disappointed with the hotel, it certainly was nothing like the description in the brochure. Part of the hotel is closed down, it doesn't tell you this, one pool - the biggest one with swim up bar which must have originally have been far nicer than the smaller one is derelict having obviously be closed for some considerable time. The smaller pool is not very inviting at all, There is a Jacuzzi which was closed the whole time we were there with a net over it. There are plenty of sunbeds - although they were in poor condition some torn and very uncomfortable, Not many parasols on sun terraces. On the beach you had to go to reception for an umbrella and carry down to put in the sand.

There is only one restaurant on the all inclusive - the meals were very disappointing, the breakfast was by far the best meal. It is the worst choice of food we have ever experienced in the Caribbean and this is the 6th time we have been. This is no where near as good as any of the other all inclusives we have stayed in. There were no afternoon snacks to speak of. There was an Oriental restaurant which was closed for the first few days we were there then when it opened up you had to pay. The hotel is so neglected it is such a shame as it is on a lovely stretch of beach. I do not think it is a 3 star hotel.

The rooms were clean and quite comfortable although there is a very noisy " empty" fridge. The bathroom was ok and we had clean towels daily. The entertainment was dire, it was twice a week if you were lucky and we didn't even know when or where it was going to be on.

There are only 2 bars, one in the reception area and one on the beach terrace. The beach terrace bar shuts at 10pm. The reception bar closed at midnight but hardly anyone is around at night drinking. It feels a bit ghostly, we were lucky enough to meet some lovely people at night for drinks and we thought we were the only ones in the hotel as everyone seems to go to bed about 9pm!!! To say it was quiet was an understatement. There are quite a lot of older couples here, but even younger ones seemed to disappear after dinner. There was no music played in the day and there was no atmosphere whatsoever day or night. Staff were hit and miss if they were friendly - it seems they most of them cant really be bothered to be honest. There were a couple of shops with hardly anything in and an indoor market, but if you walked through this you got a bit of hassle from the vendors making you feel uncomfortable if you didn't buy anything. There is a lovely shopping mall a 10 minute walk away in Rodney Bay which had a great selection including 2 supermarkets and a well stocked Pharmacy. There is also some lovely restaurants, we went to the Charthouse Restaurant on the waterfront one night and we had a very nice meal in a beautiful setting. We did a trip "Soufriere Land and sea by Jeep" - this was to be honest the highlight of our holiday. We took in the Sulphur springs and waterfall, botanical gardens and diamond falls, breathtaking views of the Pitons, had lunch at the Cocoa bean plantation and then came back via catamaran with drinks included. It was a great way to see more of the island. All in all although the hotel was a let down, the beach was small but beautiful, we did have a quiet relaxing time and met some lovely people, our trip out made our holiday to St Lucia very worthwhile. However we would definitely not return to this hotel again but would return to St Lucia.

Room Tip: We had a garden room however did have a partial side sea view which was very nice

Firstly, thank you for choosing our resort for your recent vacation. We appreciate you taking the time to share your valuable comments and feedback.

You travelled to St Lucian at a traditionally quiet time of the year. Our bars do close at midnight as most guests choose to retire to bed then but there are some other venues nearby the hotel that are open later at the weekends.

Our all-inclusive package seems to be different to those you may have had at other resorts you have stayed at in the past. All-inclusive packages do vary, we promote a package that includes breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner and drinks. We do not include daytime snacks but we do have a reasonably priced snack menu - most guests are satisfied with our buffet meals.

We have taken note of your other comments and will be looking in to specifics more closely. We aim to exceed our guests expectations and we are disappointed that you left our resort with a negative opinion.

St Lucia is a beautiful island and we hope that you will return for a future visit.

Just back from this hotel never again .The staff on the whole very friendly and helpful,The food in this A/I holiday was the worst I have ever had any meat dishes you chose where just bones in a sauce if you found any meat then you were very lucky also it was nearly always cold.Your first impression of the hotel when you arrive is that it is tired and dated needs an awful lot of money spent on it which is sad because it is in a beautiful location.I have to say that I would not recommend this hotel to anyone Chris Manchester

We are correct that the resort as good location and we are known for our friendly and welcoming staff that you have experienced but also and good meals, so your comments are of interest we will be following up with our team. The hotel does have a retro look, we do strive to exceed guests expectations of a 3-star all-inclusive.

We do hope you will reconsider and return to the hotel in the future, we will of course be delighted to welcome you back.

Beautiful View and location, and a few friendly staff, sadly that's about it.

We did appreciate the free upgrade to an Ocean View, since it was our honeymoon.

I guess for an all inclusive it's more affordable, however was not a great experience.

Most of the staff did not seem to enjoy their job and moved slow to help. The bar always only had 1 staff, when needs at least 2. This caused long waits, especially during meals as it takes forever to get a drink.

The food was pretty much the same every day, and not very good.

Staff rarely smiled with the exception of a few.

These 3 staff were the best - Kurtney (Chef), Dequan (Bartender) and the WaterFront Staff (the one that does front flips).

The Bed was very uncomfortable and the Toilet leaked.

It was hard to find a chair on the beach that belonged to the hotel.

The Pool was ugly and the Spa was disgusting and not open.

Had some night entertainment, but pretty mellow. Don't expect much dancing or excitement.

If going to St. Lucia I would look into a different Hotel, unless everything else is booked or way more expensive.

Room Tip: We did have a nice ocean view. I recommend staying on the 2nd floor.

Great friendly staff but poor management.

Terrible rooms . Old school tv's. No iron or ironing board. No mini bar. Old bathrooms, No shampoo, tiny bath gel. Friendly room attendants did their best to accommodate us.

One bar staff to service restaurant, guests and outdoor beach goers.
Terrible food same thing different day.
Breakfast eggs pork sausage bacon toast milk cereal.
Lunch Vege creole chicken, fish fillet (most times little meat more sauce), rice, some type of mash potatoes salad sandwhich station desert which is the same twice a day everyday cake with different toppings.
Dinner same as lunch minus the sand which station.

Sadly I still have 2 more days at this place I am trying to make the best of it after getting stomach pains and runnings from the hotel food. Although my husband and I are on an all inclusive package we have vowed to spend extra money to eat meals outside. The tapas restaurant and memories of Hong Kong are the best meals we had so far.

Two weeks A/I 15/12/13 – 29/12/13
The setting is lovely with excellent views, fantastic beach, and friendly staff. Room decor and around the hotel in general was tiered but fairly clean. The bathroom was small and often had a sewage smell about it however everything on our first week was serviceable, hot water clean towels, the last six days of our holiday towels were hit and miss and no hot water from the shower, the water was freezing we registered this for five days in a row with reception who apologised each day saying they would contact maintenance but they failed to do anything about it. Our room and several others were fitted with new aircon units which was great, who knows the noisy fridges might get replaced next. The weather was hot but also had its fair share of storms, one lasted 24hrs which had devastating consequences to the island.
Breakfast was ok but lunch and evening dinner was absolutely awful, extremely poor, cold most of the time, limited choice didn’t look nice, meat dishes was mainly bones in sauce and if you did find a bit of meat then lucky you! My partner said the soup was the best however he experienced a very unpleasant stomach upset part way through our first week which lasted for several days, other guests had also complained of the same thing. There was two bars but only one was open during the day, two at night but only one member of staff was working on the bars which meant you often had a very long wait to be served, this is no reflection on the barmen as they went as fast as they could and still managed a smile. We decided to try the hotel Oriental restaurant two days before we were leaving and although it is not part of your A/I it was worth every penny and more than reasonably priced and I have to say it was the best meal we had had for two weeks, absolutely excellent quality, food cooked to order, good choice of menu, excellent five star food and service.
The pool area and beach had plenty of sun loungers and never felt crowded although the pool is only small we found it adequate. There was some entertainment some nights which was ok.
To sum it all up the hotel is extremely run down and service is poor, I feel for the staff as they try there best but the hotel does not provide them with the tools to deliver. There was no consistency in service levels throughout the hotel. The hotel needs huge investment. St. Lucia is a lovely island with lovely people but staying at this hotel has been the worst experience ever.
Thomas Cook we have booked several AI packages through yourself and never had cause for complaint, however this has been our worst holiday experience ever and NOT value for money. Three star never in a million years. Its up to you Thomas Cook, its your reputation as well as the hotels, it could have huge potential and is such a waste and if I was you I would pull away from selling this hotel to your valued customers until they upgrade, invest and improve.

We appreciate you choosing St Lucian for your recent vacation to St Lucia. Your comments and feedback are appreciated - thank you for your taking the time to review our resort.

Guests do highly compliment our location and the beach, our staff are known for their warm hospitality and meals are normally well received - your comments have been noted and we are looking in to your concerns.

As regards towels, we do regret that you you may have been inconvenienced - as you have mentioned, there was a severe rain storm part way through your stay. As a result, the mains water was interrupted - in such circumstances, we are required to limit the use of laundry and this resulted in slower than usual towel service. The water supply was restored after a few days but it does can a day or two after that for laundry service to return to normal. We apologise for any inconvenience and that you were not fully informed during your stay.

Our resort is non-smoking and we have found that while this is indicated on our website and travel company brochures, the policy is sometimes overlooked - as we do not have designated smoking areas within the buildings or outdoor areas, when it rains, smokers may be inconvenienced - we apologise if this may have occurred during your stay.

All-inclusive packages do vary considerably across resorts and destinations. Our plan includes breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and dinner and drinks, we also include non-motorised water sports and regular evening entertainment - we are not a 4-star or ultra-all inclusive. Airfares have risen in recent years and there are additional fuel surcharges plus government "green" taxes on flights from UK - our hotel rates do offer value for money but airfare element at certain times of the year do make overall packages more costly. May and June are good times to travel and airfares are more competitive and hotel rates are off-season levels.

We do hope that you will reconsider and will return to St Lucia and will return to our resort. It would be a pleasure to welcome you back.
