“Fantastic hotel”
Reviewed 30 August 2014

We have not long been back from our honeymoon where we stayed at this lovely hotel. On our arrival there did seem to be confusion about whether our room was ready or not but as we had booked a helicopter transfer to the area rather than taking the 2 hour bus journey we assumed this was because we arrived earlier than expected. After speaking to reception we were given our room key and shown to our room. Our room was immaculate and the staff had put decorations on the bed to welcome us. The amount of activities available was fantastic and the concierge was fantastic with booking our trips and excursions around the island. The food was fantastic and had a good selection, the a la carte menus were also beautifully presented. The only downside to our trip was the sheer number of times I was bitten while out and about in the late afternoon/evening, this was despite using insect repellent daily. Unfortunately I seemed to react badly to the bites and my legs were swollen and very itchy, others did not seem to suffer so badly and my husband was only bitten a couple of times.

Room Tip: The higher number rooms are bigger but they are a bit further up the hill so a bit of a hike.

Our family was very pleased with the high level of service, friendliness of staff, very clean hotel, food was excellent. Liane in the Palms hotel was very nice. I was impressed when she recognized the mother and wife from a family was ill and offered to send breakfast to her in her room.
Both my wife and daughter have food allergies, and we were very happy with the level of care taken by the Pier Restaurant in preparing their meals.
My daughter who is very picky with hotels said this was her best hotel so far. Highly recommend this hotel.

Room Tip: Corner suites are large and sunny

Just returned from st James Club having spent 13 nights with my family at this fabulous resort.
Where to begin?
The customer service at this hotel is by far the best I've experienced in the carribean or indeed at the majority of hotels I've visited worldwide. The staff take every opportunity to engage with their guests and nothing is too much trouble. The staff seem to genuinely enjoy working at the resort and this was reflected in their smiling faces.
However the water sports team have to take the most credit for their amazing service. The boys take soo much time and patience with helping guests to learn to waterski, their tuition, patience and encouragement was second to none. My 9 year old son got up on his skis for the first time purely down to them. Thanks Karim and Stephan! Thanks to all the boys ,you made our holiday . Stewart, Robbie, Peter,Julius, Modeste, all great guys.
Thanks Stewart for taking my daughter out on the boat, the highlight of her holiday ;))
Guest services manager Sharon was so kind and caring when I broke my arm during my holiday. She even rang the hospital to check on my welfare and made daily enquiries thereafter as to my well being.
All the staff ( especially those water sports boys!) went out of their way to ensure I still enjoyed my holiday despite my accident.
The rooms with interconnecting doors were perfect for a family and were spacious, clean, freshly decorated and had lovely views of the grounds.
The food in all restaurants was delicious and in the ala carte the presentation was outstanding , dishes were cooked from locally sourced produce and you could eat a variety of cuisines during the weekly menus. Fab.
The beach was small but beautifully maintained and the sea clean and mainly clear.
The Joys cruise excursion, highly recommended, takes you to other beaches on the island where the water is turquoise and you can swim amongst the array of beautiful fish.
We had planned to stay 12 nights but extended to 13 as we couldn't bare to leave!
This has certainly been our favourite holiday to date and we plan return next year.
" Good job" St James !!

I had been to St Lucia years ago staying as a family in the Windjammer landing and had nothing but fond memories and was glad to be going back with friends. This hotel looks nice in the photos posted. But when we arrived there was nothing but pure confusion with the front desk registration staff in assisting with our party of seven and the rest of the people who had come in our same flight. The way we were being registered it seemed as if the staff had just started working there as of yesterday and di not know what they were doing. The rooms were nice I must say, but the majority are away from the dining areas and pools. So unless you walk it or call for the jitney every time you need to get from here to there. The food in the dining rooms were not that good, much of the food being way, way, too salty. The waitresses did not have a smile on their faces until we spoke to one of the wait staff supervisors and that attitude was then changed. The beach water was not Caribbean blue as in the photo, but a nightmare brown. Super turn off. All in our party are well travelled and are very much know a good place when we see a good establishment. The only tour we took was a tour of the winery which was awful and a waste of money. It was $66.00 U.S and we saw one room where the wine fermented and that was the tour. Wine tasting.... there were several liquors to taste, but the liquor was the same at the airport and was less expensive at the airport so do not buy on the tours. For the shopping area, take a taxi into where the locals shopping area you can just was well worth the bangs for your buck. Be certain to buy spices and the banana ketchup. They are truly worth it. Beware if you are a diabetic as the banana ketchup is on the sweet side.

Room Tip: If you are handicapped or cannot walk far, ask to be placed in a room near the pools and dining room...

We went on a girls vacation and it was amazing - the resort was beautiful, the room was spacious and very clean. We loved all the restaurants - the food was great! The beach was clean and there were so many water activities. The best part of the whole trip was the staff - they were super friendly and very accommodating. The people on the whole island were very friendly. We highly recommend this resort.

What a great resort! My husband and I have been to most of the Caribbean Islands and this resort was wonderful. We stayed for 10 days and everything was perfect from the minute we arrived.

Staff: They are wonderful, friendly and accommodating. There are staff that walk all over the beach and around the pool areas all day long serving drinks and checking on how your vacation is going. They made phone calls for use to arrange our spa treatments, gold trips and excursions.

Rooms: Our room was the ocean view in the 900 building. I suggest getting the ocean view suite - for a few dollars extra you get a gorgeous bathroom with granite counters, a living area and a king size room with an office space in it. The rooms were so quiet and the beds were so puffy and comfortable- we had the best sleeps of our lives. The maids did a fantastic job, the rooms were always clean and they left us lots of towels each day (not just 2 per day like most resorts do). Bed sheets are changed every 3 days automatically unless you request them to be changed more frequently (there is a sign you can place on your bed if you want them changed daily). There were 2 air conditioners in the room which kept it nice and cool.

Food: Not as much selection as other resorts we have been to but the food they had was FABULOUS - 100% fresh, nothing from a can and far less salty than most resorts. There are 4 A La Cart restaurants that you can attend as many times as you wish. There is also the main buffet that is opened for all meals and does not require reservations. We only ate there twice, as we dinned at the a la cart restaurants most of the time. Le Jardin is wonderful- there is an extra charge of $27 per person but it's worth it to eat rib eye steak or tenderloin - and you can order as much as you want from the menu for the $27. There is a snack bar called Plum Tree that makes fresh chicken breast chicken fingers - absolutely the best food on the resort. This isn't a typical resort with mass amounts of food - its more upscale with home-cooked meals and fresh food.

Excursions: You must do the Joy's cruise! there is a both set up on the beach where you can sign up for it. it costs $100 per person but it covers all of the major sights on the island. The boat picks you up at 8:30am and takes you into the town of Soufrierre. Along the way you see the beer factory, the jade Mountain resort where the Bachelor was filmed and the famous Pitons. Then you board a taxi and go to a scenic look out near the Pitons before heading to the Sulfur Springs. Here, you can cover yourself with mud - it makes your skin feel like silk. The pool in which you wash off afterwards is approximately 125 degrees so be careful getting in it - t takes a while to get used to the heat. Also, do not wear silver to the Sulfur Springs - the mud tarnishes it and turns it black. Afterwards, you climb through the rain forest where you enter a beautiful waterfall - the tour leader will take pictures for you on your camera as you go under the waterfall. After this, you get a family cooked meal on the beach made fresh on the grill by a local family. You then go between the Pitons and snorkle for about an hour - wear water shoes because there are fireworms on the coral that can sting and burn your skin as well as lots of sea urchins. You will see everything here from tropical fish to turtles, starfish and sting rays Your last stop is Marigot Bay where you will get rum bunch and beer and have another chance to jump into the water and swim. Our group leader was named Vaughan - most amazing leader in the world! the Spa on the resort is great! Massages and facials were well worth the money. The St. Lucia Gold Club is fantastic - the front desk can arrange the cabs for you and you can rent clubs and carts on site. They also have a wonderful restaurant on site with great food. All around, the excursions were fantastic! AVOID the jet ski people offering you a ride on the beach. We saw a man smash into the coral reef, flip off the jet ski and shatter his pelvis and cur his arm and head opened. They are SUPER dangerous and the tide changes levels so many times in the day that the reefs cant always be seen.

Beach: The beach on the resort is very small and the water isn't as clear as other parts of the island. Its a very clean beach with clean water, but if you get a change - take the local bus to Rodney Bay. This beach is only about 10 minutes north of the resort and the water is crystal clear. The beach is empty and you have total peace and quiet with fish swimming at your feet. The local bus is $1 each way and completely safe - the locals were really helpful in guiding us to the beach. Get off the bus at JQ plaza and its about a 5-10 minute walk to paradise.

Minor dislikes: The resort automatically charges $2 US per night onto your credit card for an Enhanced Tourist Fund which is like a charity. This is an OPTIONAL charge and at time of checkout you can tell them you don't wish to donate and they will remove the charges. There is a note about this in your welcome package. Also, we found on the last day that if you go to the front desk, they will give you bottles of water. Bottles of water are not stocked in the mini-fridges in the room, which is the only thing that was a bit disappointing about this resort. The mini fridges are not stocked - they are just for your own personal use.

Transportation: The road from the airport to the resort is EXTREMELY twisty. You are going up a mountain and the turns are so sharp and windy - I would highly recommend taking a Gravol before getting in the bus or taxi - its over an hour to the hotel and many people got motion sick. You need to be an expert driver to attempt these roads to I would recommend hiring a driver or taking a cab versus renting a car.

Entertainment: This resort is more upscale and attracts an older crowd - if you're looking for a party vacation with sleepless nights, drunk teenagers and loud music all night, go to Cancun or Cuba. The nightly entertainment is from 9-11pm and then everyone goes to sleep. Some nights there is kareoke and other nights there is a local reggae singer singing his rendition of some really great classics (Bob Marley, Keith Sweat, babyface, Shaggy....). Its an extremely peaceful resort at night time and there is no major nightlife.

Pools: There are 4 pools on the resort. Its great how the children are kept separate from the adult pools, this allows for a more relaxing stay for everyone without kids. Up in the hills is the kids pool with water slides. The 2 main pools are by the swim up bar and are only for kids over the age of 16. Upstairs behind the Spa is an adults only pool for kids over 18 and no smoking is allowed in the pool. We found this to be fantastic as the pools were always clean and we didn't have to deal with loud children.

Overall, we had a fabulous time and I highly recommend this resort.

Room Tip: Rooms on the North side are quieter - they are away from the children's pool. Also, if you get a...

We have just returned from 2 weeks here and are already plotting our return.
We are a family with 2 kids 8 and 11 years and they did not want to leave mainly due to the fantastic guys in the water sports centre namely Stuwart, Kerim, Peter, John, Robby, Modest, Julius, Tara . Our daughter Holly was made to feel special by every single one of them and learnt to waterski thanks to their exceptional friendliness, tuition and patience .. You guys are amazing !!! You made our holiday ! We water skied daily plus kayaking and hobie sailing and nothing was too much trouble .
Agnes in the Bambou restaurant was so friendly and made wonderful omelettes !
Also have to mention the beach drinks guys, Denson, Pieterson and Nigel... They were always on hand with a smile and a drink.
Room was up the hill and spacious and clean although there was so much to do we didn't spend much time there.
We made some fantastic friends and had many evenings playing beach volleyball till sunset .
There were very few negatives but some improvements could be made on the gym, the night time entertainment , complimentary wifi in rooms would be good and pool opening hours ( 6pm far too early !!!) BUT the positives far outweigh the negatives .
Food was fantastic and coffee bar very good.
Can't wait to return and see you all again !
