“Better than previous visit”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 July 2014

We decided to make a second visit to Anse Chastanet after a very good experience two years before. This time we felt the stay was even better than the first time and now my spouse wants to go back soon. From arrival at the St. Lucia Airport and departure this was a nearly perfect visit. We again returned to dive and take advantage of a 12-dive package over a week stay. The dive shop staff was top rate and totally professional they do it right. We had a four-meal package and that included a high-tea at the beach cafe each day. The evening meals were top-tier and well prepared. Only one slip up and that was on our first night when the meal pacing was a disaster. As said this was second visit and again we did not venture off the location. There is lots of outdoor activates to take part in but we opted to spend free-time relaxing and reading between dives. The beach is fabulous and you must be there at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. each day to meet Junior as he brings cool refreshing face clothes to sooth you with lemon grass scent. Beware those who are not as fit as you should be. From the beach to the reception are there are 103 steps to climb, but if you cannot make it they do have a ride to bring you up the hill. The rooms do not have air conditioning but ceiling fans. Turn down service each evening prepares your room with mosquito netting draping your bed. Rooms do have a safe at no charge for your valuables. Breakfast area is nice and airy but beware of the birds who will join you for creamed cheese, bread and your juice if you do not watch out. Hiking is part of many activities and they are well done by resident hiker--Meno. No television in the rooms which is such a joy. If you need to just totally unwind this is the place for you. Highest recommendation. There is great snorkeling on site for those who do not dive. Try both ends of the beach to see all the fish life. Do purchase a meal plan if offered and if you want to drink you may want to do that plan, too. Oh, do bring earplugs if you do not like the sound of nature for it can be pretty loud outside at night.

Room Tip: There are no bad rooms they are all unique in their own way.

The hillside resort exudes charm and provides many lovely vantage points from which to view the stunning Piton mountains and Caribbean sea. Open-air accommodations celebrate the beauty of nature and the flora and fauna native to Saint Lucia, and my favorite aspect of our room was the large, al fresco shower encompassing a lovely tree. Our group is well traveled and enjoys good food. We were impressed by the large selection of breakfast options in the morning, the delicious cuisine served beach-side, and the incredible burgers at Anse Mamin beach, a relaxing and private cove reached by a short walking trail or a boat taxi. The main beach features dark sand, great snorkeling, many watersports options, and comfortable shaded chaises for relaxing and enjoying a cool drink. I cannot fail to mention Peter, the manager, who is a wealth of information about the island as well as the resort, and is quite entertaining as well. He is dedicated to the resort and the guests and works hard to ensure a most enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: Make sure to book an open-air room without the "4th wall" and have a burger and hang out a...

We've just returned from a week at Anse Chastanet and the only real down point was having to go home.

Beautiful location, fantastic room, excellent food and great beach.

Having no windows or glass sounds strange, but absolutely works - we had a resident fly catcher (bird) in the bathroom which seemed to keep us clear of insects, but he did leave mementos of his visits.

We visited Jade Mountain and while it does not really suit us, it is an absolutely amazing piece of architecture, at one with the environment and clearly a dream place to stay in.

The staff are very friendly and kind, with only the odd exception, such as a rather grumpy young lady in the beach restaurant, which is a real shame as one bad attitude counters that of a dozen of lovely people. It's not fair to single out from the vast majority of the staff those who make your visit special, but when you visit you'll have the same problem - from the gardeners up to the general manager our encounters were 99% very pleasant.

The beach and snorkelling we're great, as was the service from Abo and his team. Jungle is now my cousin and Meno's knowledge is truly wonderful.

If you need a water taxi, try "Let God Arise" which you'll see regularly on the beach - good value and again great local knowledge.

We thoroughly enjoyed all our meals and their quality. Again in the restaurant and bars the vast majority of staff were kind, helpful and fun to chat to.

All the steps are a chore you can easily put up with, but there is an excellent car shuttle service if you want to avoid the exercise.

I don't think a normal person can possibility be disappointed by a stay here or up the hill at Jade Mountain and it is hard to fathom how anybody can be disappointed by the resort. I can only think that they are serial complainers, never happy with anything or maybe trying to seek a discount or freebe - well don't believe or give into them !

Room Tip: We had 12a and were very happy with it !

Oh I have so much to say. Anse Chastenet is by far the Best Resort we have ever stayed at and we love tropical destinations and this Resort had it all~ We are an adventurous outdoor family with expensive taste for cuisine and being pampered and this exceeding our expectations!!!~ We lOur room was 9005 without a fourth wall which gave us breath taking views of the Pitons and the two bays~ the exoticness of the songs of the birds, frogs and the beauty of all the flowers enhanced our view!!!!~ Our room came with a full kitchen and the fridge was always stocked with beer, wine, fruit juices for our son and lovely platters of the island's fresh fruit~ It was hard to choose from the five different restaurants because the food was out of this world!!!~ We asked to see the chief to Thank him personally~ But we also came for the adventure~ Anse Chastenet has the best snorkeling on the Island no need to go anywhere else~ We kayaked to Anse's private beach and in my opinion ate the world best burgers~ We explore the nearby rain forrest by hiking or one can mountain biking and a guide to share his knowledge of the rain forest~ There is 150 different kinds of mangos!!!~ Almost all trees and plants have proprieties that the locals use~ If one was to get stranded on an island this would be the island!!!!~

Room Tip: "Deluxe Hillside has the Most Amazing Views"

A friend and I did a volunteer trip around different parts of the island then stayed at Anse Chastanet for a couple of days afterwards. We liked that it's not near the more hustling capital city of Castries. It's located near the laid-back fishing village of Soufriere if you want to take a water taxi to town - the 2 mile road is very bumpy and takes longer. You can also take a water taxi to the Saturday morning market in Soufriere or to the nearby Seafood Party held every Friday night. You can drink the tap water, but they also provided a large bottled water each day. Room had a fridge with complimentary fruit the first day which we ate for breakfast the next day. Great big bathroom with toiletries, good water pressure, and hot water. The best part was the private patio that had a hammock over section of sand, 2 chaise lounges, ceiling fan, couch, table, and 2 chairs. The A/C worked but the room wouldn't get as cold as my friend would like - I was fine with it. We loved the location because the marine reserve is right in front of the hotel so scuba diving was only a 2 minute boat ride away. The staff was superb - everyone on the island is so genuinely friendly. And the food was excellent. Be sure to get a beach room if you can - the hotel is on a big hill and some rooms require lots of steps to get to the beach. There is a restaurant on the beach as well as one higher for the "tree top" rooms.

Room Tip: Be sure to get a beach room if you can - the hotel is on a big hill and some rooms require lots of s...

we had no idea, but this hotel is pretty much Techno-Free. there is a tiny guest area that people congregate every morning to check their email and surf. I really liked the staff and they were super nice - we even had arrangement for my 9 year's old birthday and they brought a cake and sang a song for her. It was a complete surprise to us that they brought a cake for her! and she was thrilled. the hotel is incredibly limited in food choices. we did visit every one of the restaurants but don't count on this island to be a epicurean trip. Overall, the drinks were cheap and in a couple of occasions downright awful - the mohitos were meh, the island drinks were nothing of the type of Rum you'd be boasting about, and even the fries sucked majorly. if you count the awful food throughout the island and the hotel out, all else was great. Bring your expectation down a notch and you'll be enjoying the beach that was lovely and full of colorful fish to see when you scuba dive or snorkel. The sister hotel to the Anse Chastanet did not allow children so we were not able to go and see it. our room was quiet and tucked away inside the trees which was pretty much a bungalow with cover. The staff was super nice and attentive. No pool so if the kiddies don't like sand... oh well, they have to deal with it.

We stayed at Anse Chastanet for a week of diving on the all inclusive package. It was fantastic. From the minute we arrived to the minute we left we were treated like royalty. The dive operation and operators were there for our every need. They made it so easy the diving was good the coral were so healthy lots of critters to see. The food was incredible lots of selections and very well presented. Everyone at the resort were so friendly and helpful I don't think I have ever encountered such a friendlier staff. Any problem was taken care of immediately. The views from the rooms were just spectacular and they cooled down at night to a very pleasant temp. Go all inclusive it is the only way to go!! So if you want great diving, great food, and friendly people this is the place to be!! Loved it and would go back in a flash.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Tranquility, Romance, Adventure: What were Caribbean hotels like when you sat watching the sunset instead of cable TV? You can still find that Classic Caribbean at Anse Chastanet on St. Lucia’s quiet southwestern coast where two magical peaks, the Pitons, leap from the sea and the mountains are covered with luminous greenery.Architect owner Nick Troubetzkoy believes passionately in nature. So he created a hotel that makes the foliage and the flowers, the perfumes and the peaks, the sea and the bird song an integral part of your vacation experience. The estate encompasses 600 lush tropical acres bordering two soft sand beaches. The resort’s two crystal-clear bays are part of a designated marine reserve protecting miles of colorful coral reefs teeming with tropical fish. With such a unique setting as his canvas, Nick Troubetzkoy was inspired to design a one -of-a-kind resort. A dozen rooms are tucked in behind the coconut palms that line the beach and the remainder tip toe up a flower decked hillside, taking advantage of the captivating scenery all around. Anse Chastanet’s ever growing art collection provides a visual feast of its own. There are impressive wooden sculptures and plaques, earthy burlap compositions, painted “sky ceilings” and vibrant acrylic paintings invoking memories of Matisse and Picasso. And while the sensuous seclusion of the rooms provides some guests with the perfect excuse for lolling away the day on the balcony, others head out to partake in the many activities on offer; yoga, snorkeling, scuba diving, tennis, sunset sailing, sea kayaking or jungle biking, hiking and bird-watching among the ruins of an 18th century colonial plantation. ... more   less
