DISCLAIMER: Don’t be a dummy like me and not arrange for transportation to the hotel. The hotel is about 45-50 minutes away from the airport, and my mother and I had to pay $70 for the ride. Be forewarned.

ROOMS: Wonderful! I recommend a beach-front bungalow as they include a free-standing soaking tub, vanity area, personal outdoor Jacuzzi, large closet, two beach chairs and a hammock. The bed was super comfy. A personal touch that I haven’t seen before was an iPad instead of a hotel information book to book spa appointments, learn about the hotel, plan activities, etc. Just great.

FOOD: The food was disappointing. There are three restaurants and an afternoon tea service. One of them is situated on the beach, which offers lunch and dinner in a casual environment. Breakfast is served in the main building, and there is also the option to have an upscale dinner in the Great Room. First of all, I was appalled that I needed to pay for afternoon tea ($33 for two). At all of the hotels I’ve stayed in, this was always complimentary to hotel guests. And the price was definitely not worth it, for two tea pots, some fruit and tea sandwiches. Breakfast was alright, nothing special. Dinner was also on the average side. For a hotel of this caliber, I expected to be wowed with the food as I have been at various hotels in the Dominican Republic (Tortuga Bay) and Turks and Caicos (various Grace Bay hotels). Not worth the high price at all in terms of food. $3 for coffee and $9 for juice? This seems ridiculous to me as staple breakfast beverages like this should be free. Make sure you get a reservation that includes breakfast in the overall price. We had a little hiccup at breakfast the first day, and the wait staff was unsure if our room rate had breakfast included. We did not. Make sure you take advantage of the view at the nearby Ladera hotel restaurant for dinner at sunset. An absolute must!

SPA: Heavenly! It blew me away. The thing that most caught my attention was the covered pathway leading to the reception area lit along the way by candles. It was absolutely beautiful and so calming the way the spa music kept getting louder and softer as you approached the reception. The treatment rooms are little tree houses connected by wooden walkways. Make sure you take an outdoor shower in the changing room – you’ll get a breathtaking view of one of the pitons! I recommend a bamboo massage with Dwayne. My only gripe about the spa is that they add on a “delivery fee” to services which I think is clouded as an included tip. The prices should have a flat rate to which the guest can add on a gratuity if he/she chooses.

SERVICE: Butlers are provided to hotel guests to arrange absolutely everything (dinner, activities, shuttle service) and this was a great perk. Mackenzie and Tyson were top notch! Every staff member at the hotel was super friendly and accommodating.

BEACH: The white sand beach is gorgeous, and perfect for lounging the day away on the most comfortable beach chaises that I’ve ever laid on. The color of the water looks like a green jewel, and not the usual crystal blue water you see in other parts of the Caribbean. Keep in mind that this beach is on the small side, and if your absolute top priority is long walks or runs on the beach, then you’ll be disappointed. It’s mostly meant to get a tan, have butlers wait on you, lounge around, and admire the two mountains that cradle the setting. There is also a spectacular pool right next to the beach.

PROPERTY: This is honestly the most unique and beautiful hotel I’ve stayed at in the world. There’s really nothing like it. The hotel is situated between two mountains (Gros and Petit Piton), and practically everywhere you look the view is absolutely enchanting. The grounds are filled with beautiful flowers and greenery, and it’s beautifully kept and sparklingly clean. What’s great about the property is that rather than having everything concentrated in one spot, the rooms, restaurants, gym, spa etc. are scattered along the hillside or down by the beach. That being said, there is a free shuttle service that you can call at any time (and you usually need to since some distances are a pain to walk) and they’ll pick you up right away and take you to your destination. So keep in mind when booking this hotel that guests with physical disabilities might have difficulty traversing around the property since it’s so hilly.

Good day,
Thank you for sharing your comments about your recent stay at Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort.
We are delighted to know that you had a great stay and you enjoyed everything that we offered with the exception of your disappointments with our food and beverage offerings. Your comments have been communicated to the Director of Food and Beverage/Executive Chef to ensure that our guests are always pleased with our culinary offering.
I have also noted your comments about billing in the spa. All services at the hotel, including spa services, carry a compulsory, government implemented 10% service charge, which is divided among all line staff at the hotel. There is an additional line for gratuity where guests can reward their therapist, or other server, for exemplary service. I am sorry this was not explained to you at the time.
On behalf of the entire team, thank you once again for your comments and business. We hope to welcome you back to Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort in the not too distant future.
Regards,
André Boersma

This place is as good as it gets. You know how most places never really quite live up to the expectations that you have before you go? Sugar Beach met and far exceeded all of our expectations. My wife and I had our honeymoon here late last summer, and it was the best week of our lives. The food is excellent, the drinks are excellent, the staff is so friendly and welcoming. We stayed in a luxury villa, and our jaws dropped when we walked in. Our room also came with butler service which was second to none. On our last night, while we were out having dinner, our butler Moses left us quite a surprise. When we returned to the room, the entire villa was decorated in flower petals, and a bottle of champagne was left chilling on ice. This place is simply amazing, and we wouldn't have changed a single thing about or honeymoon. We will cherish the memories forever!

Hello and thank you for having my friends and I and children for the day last week. We were warmly welcomed from the start at the car park and escorted to the beach from there , kindly giving us directions and a briefing on facilities available. We had a lovely afternoon on the beach, with a good choice of drinks available at the bar. The children enjoyed snorkling whilst we just relaxed watching the world go by. We had an enjoyable lunch there albeit I can understand perhaps after three or four week stay the menu may get a bit tiring. I would certainly hire a car from this location and visit other restaurants in the area, of which there are quite a few and local restaurants far cheaper too if you need to balance out the cost a bit over time. The swimming pool is certainly lovely and has incredible views. I cannot obvioulsy comment on rooms and other facilities but we would certainly stay for a little time, perhaps not our entire stay on the Island at this hotel, as we tend to go to St Lucia for a month..and this hotel would be far too expensive for that length of time for us as a family of 5 or 6 depending on who comes with us that year. The loungers are the most expensive that we have yet found on the island. I would hope that this is complimentary should you stay at the resort ? Again, thank you for having us :)

Good day,
Thank you for your comments about your day visit to Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort.
We are really delighted that we helped make your short visit an enjoyable one.
In respect to the menu, you may wish to be aware that we are currently looking to implement new menus with a wider variety of dishes in the restaurants and on the beach. We also offer daily specials which mean our guests always have something new to try.
I am perplexed by your comments about the sun lounges being expensive. We actually are one of the very few resorts on the island that provide complimentary sun lounges to non-resident guests. These chairs are at the far end of the beach by the snorkeling area. If guests wish to use resident guest lounges, then we do implement a charge, a portion of which can be used as a food and beverage credit.
Although you did not have the opportunity to see any of our rooms or villas, rest assured, our accommodations and other facilities are as stunning as our location and the high quality service that you received.
Thank you for considering us for a future family vacation. We would be delighted to welcome you and your family back to Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort.

Sugar Beach has been one of the best places we have stayed, service and accommodation was second to none. We had villa 504 (I think) which has views over the Pietons and the Carribean. The villa had separate lounge, bedroom, bathroom with claw foot bath and large separate shower, another large shower and loo plus a large dressing room. Lounge and bedroom both have flat screens. Outside was a large decked area on two levels with a plunge pool on both levels and sun loungers. All our butlers were excellent booking anything we wanted either within the complex or restaurants outside. The buggy drivers pick you up within minutes and remember your names how they do this is beyond me though it did take a couple of days telling them to just use our first names. The beach is amazing, the greatest sun loungers ever, beach service and an endless supply of white fluffy towels. One thing they should do though is dredge where the sea meets the beach as in some parts there is about 2 meters of small shingle to get over. The main restaurant has a ridiculous dress code of long trousers for men which is ridiculous as no one can see legs under the table cloth surely tailored shorts and deck shoes should be ok as it is a beach holiday. This is probably why many people only ate at the beach restaurant. The food is ok but why do they insist on trying to produce European food ?. We did ask for some local dishes, goat curry, chicken rice and peas etc and full marks to the kitchen for doing this for us, problem was everyone else wanted it too also one of the chefs is Mexican and after a long chat produced a fantastic Mexican meal for us. Praise for this as the menu doesn't change. The hidden bar was trendy and cool the two bar guys are fab at cocktails as well, the bar lounge has 2 pool tables but I seemed to spend the first few days teaching Americans the art of snooker on a full size table. Everyone we met was great mostly Americans on honeymoon all of whom were great fun along with a couple of older Brits. If you travel up the coast for a day trip do it by speed boat there is a guy who runs a boat Eco tours very fast who will do whatever you want in your own time, the butlers know him so ask. Apart from this there really is to much to mention so just go for a superb relaxing holiday.

Room Tip: The villas in the 500's all had good views or higher

Good day,
We are very pleased to know we were able to exceed your overall expectations and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your comments. It is feedback such as yours that allows us to continually improve the services we offer.
It is gratifying to know that our culinary team prepared personalized dishes to your satisfaction when you found the main menu lacking. I will be sure to pass on your glowing comments to them and commend them for a job well done.
You may be please to know that our new executive chef, Jacques Chretien, is in the process of revamping the menus in all of our restaurants to better reflect local flavours and produce. Guests will also see a greater variety of dishes to choose from.
Thank you once again for your valuable feedback. We look forward to welcoming you back to Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort soon.

Wonderful holiday in a truly stunning destination. We travelled with our two boys age 9 & 11 and chose a superior luxury villa. The journey from the airport was very easy - only 45 mins and we were driven directly to our villa. We visited the hotel 14 years ago when it was the Jalousie and were delighted to see the improvements, the new villas are really stunning and very comfortable but the lounge area with pull out sofa is very small for two children, so we had a roll away bed put up in the bathroom - which is huge.

The setting is really stunning, lush rainforest and lots of tropical flowers with aqua warm calm seas.

The boys had one of the best holidays ever as they made lots of friends and the kids club staff were incredible. The kids club has a wonderful array of new toys such as table football, table tennis, air hockey, basketball hoops, wii and pinball. They made tie die T-shirts, dancing and singing contests, archery and lots of other games. The resort is small enough they had the run of the place coming and going where and when they wanted, as its is so safe. It was great to give them that freedom.

We just relaxed and swam, snorkelled, read and eat. We took trips to the Volcano, Botanical gardens, waterfall, whale watching (only small dolphins seen), Hotel Chocolat - bar to bean tour and made our own chocolate bar and then up to watch the sun set at The Ladera resort (great view).

The villa has 3 butlers and Michael and Terry the buggy drivers who take you all around the resort were incredible and really made the holiday for us. They couldn't be more warm, friendly and helpful. They new all of our names from day 1 which was impressive.

Only one gripe was the menu it got a bit dull over the 11 day stay. It would have been good to have a bit more variety. Do bring smart clothes, long trousers and shirt required for men to eat in the Great room, we loved the food.. We didn't use the Cane Bar as its adults only in the evenings.

We stayed in 313 and the sunsets from there are fantastic. It's one of the quieter villas as its not own the road.

The rainforest spa was out of this world - make sure you visit. Bamboo huts on stilts in the rainforest!

Weather in July was wonderful very little rain just warm day and night with occasional brief showers.

Room Tip: 313 great views. Ask for a room not next to the road if you want peace and quiet.

Good day,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback following your recent visit to Sugar Beach, A Viceroy Resort. We are so happy that you decided to come back after a 14 year absence from what was the Jalousie Plantation.

We are happy that you enjoyed all of the new facilities, amenities and activities we have introduced as part of the transformation of the property. We agree that our luxury villas are truly special and offer very spacious accommodations for families.

Your comments about our restaurant menus are well-received. Our new executive chef, Jacques Chretien and his team are working hard to get new menus and concepts in place that we are confident will delight our guests and certainly help to improve the variety of dishes on offer.

I will be sure to communicate your feedback to the entire team and let them know how much you enjoyed your stay.

Once again, your comments and business have been greatly appreciated. We hope to welcome you back for a third visit.

Best Regards,
