“Incredible!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2014

This resort is absolutely amazing! I knew it was nested between the pitons before we arrived, but it’s hard to really grasp what that means until you see it in person. It’s incredible. Both the location and the resort scream romance.

We had such a great stay here. We stayed in a Luxury Sugar Mill room and it was amazing! Loved the simple all-white décor. Both the room (room seems like the wrong term here) and lanai were huge and so beautiful. We enjoyed the nightly turndown service.

Food:
-We had breakfast in the mornings at the Terrace. It was simple and tasty. Eating out on the deck was overlooking the property was a great way to start the day.
-The BBQ at Bayside was excellent. Our favorite part was the ceviche bar. You can customize exactly what you want in yours! So good!
-We were disappointed in the Great Room. Service was so-so and they were out of their special even though we didn’t have a late reservation.
-Portion sizes for the food ordered on the beach are huge!

Activities:
-We highly recommend attending the Black & White Party; it was a lot of fun.
-Snorkeling was really good in the marine preserve at the base of the Pitons
-The sunset cruise is a great way to see the Pitons and the resort from another angle.
-The beach loungers are so cozy and we loved how the staff came around with a different little treat every day

Watch out for the mosquitos, especially if you take the rainforest walk or go to the spa. The spa is literally in the rainforest and each of the treatment rooms are individual treehouses. My massages was great, but I did get a couple mosquito bites during it.

It might be a good idea to bring some watershoes. The sand on the beach is great, but once you actually get in the water it’s more like small rocks than sand and can be tough on tender feet.

This is one of the most incredible places we have ever been to and we would return in a heartbeat!

Located between the two world-heritage pitons (and a world heritage spot itself) this resort has it all and then some! The location is stunning, the beach is lovely (warm water with nice snorkeling), there is excellent food at the restaurants, and fabulous service. But most impressive was the villa we had- a multiple room private cottage- with kitchen, 2 bathrooms, living room, veranda with personal pool, and a butler on call to meet your every need. For us it was a perfect vacation- many activities available on the island but little motivation to leave the perfect paradise that is Sugar Beach! Staff is lovely and the management runs the resort flawlessly! I could not possibly think of any dissatisfaction or complaint.

Room Tip: All the rooms are good but ask for the most private of them- some are c loser together than others.

I normally like to be steps from the sand when staying on a beach property but our bungalow was so amazing, I didn't mind riding the tuk tuk down to the beach (the driver arrives at your front door within minutes of requesting it). We had a large villa on the mountain - two bathrooms, one with double sinks and a long counter, huge shower, footed tub, super comfy bed with mosquito net, all decorated in white; amazing accommodations. Our villa has an amazing view of The Gros Piton and a private pool. While the beach area is too small for long beach walks, fish lovers will appreciate the abundant marine life just feet from the sand. I saw octopuses, trumpet fish, puffer fish, crabs, sea urchins, and lots of amazingly beautiful fish I couldn't identify. If you don't have your own mask and snorkel you can borrow from the resort (along with 1 and 2 seater kayaks and paddle boards). At one end of the beach is a marine sanctuary that draws snorkelers - great for viewing colorful parrot fish. I did a scuba dive with the resort which couldn't have been more convenient, just a short boat ride away to an amazing reef where we saw sea turtles. The dive staff was friendly and very helpful. The resort staff in general is extremely friendly if not always ultra attentive. On several occasions I had to interrupt servers' personal conversations to request water. Coffee takes a while to arrive at breakfast, but the slower pace is common in many Caribbean islands (Puerto Rico is an exception). Water taxis anchor right off the beach, they can get a little loud so I always chose a hut/chairs far away from them. We did take a water taxi ride one day, about an hour sight seeing tour where we saw the neighboring town, a volcanic beach, and fruit bats in a cave just off the water ($80 in cash for two of us, definitely worth it). Overall the staff was great, as was the food. Be sure to try the local beer, Piton. The spa is stunning and rustic, I had an amazing massage (use the spa's outdoor shower if you like intense water pressure!). The scenery and setting of Sugar Beach is breathtaking, like something out of a movie. Very romantic, perfect for couples (there were a few young kids who looked out of place, better for adults). I was quite sad to leave the last day. We would definitely return and recommend it highly.

This was our second trip to Sugar Beach. We visited 3 years ago when it was named Jalousie Plantation. It is certainly a five-star resort situated in the most beautiful setting. There has certainly been more villas added since our first visit-including the beach villas, and the addition of tuk-tuks over van transportion was a nice change. The resort also added personal I-pads, which was a nice amenity to have considering we do not travel with them. Our first stay in the 500s had a lovely view of the water from the infinity pool and both pitons. The property is immaculately kept. This stay, we were in the 900s. We only had a view of the petit piton, but it was by-far a more private location and we enjoyed having an added outdoor shower in this room. Our butler, Monti, was fabulous and made every portion of our trip effortless. We truly felt pampered the entire time by the staff.

We chose to only do the package that included breakfast, as we wanted to visit nearby hotel restaurants as well for dinner (boucan at hotel chocolat and dasheene at ladera-both only mintues away). Our butler arranged the transfers and the drivers were always on time and waited for us to complete dinner to drive us back to the resort. We enjoyed the multiple restaurants on Sugar Beach's property: the Cane Bar for sushi and the Bayside bar for dinner on multiple nights and lunch almost daily and Bayside for breakfast, as well as The Terrace for breakfast. We enjoyed all of our meals on the resort, and I highly suggest visiting the Cane Bar. The beach service was very prompt for drinks, and they brought complimentary juice once every morning (nice touch). You should know the waiters work on a bit of "island time", but very on par with any other Caribbean island. My only suggestion would be to have a better and more affordable wine selection.

We also visited the spa for a couple's massage and watsu pool on both occasions on our visit, this time was definitely as good, if not better than last.

There is plenty to do and see if you wish to venture outside of the resort. So far we have visited the botanical gardens, the warm waterfall, the diamond waterfall (must see), the sulfer springs, drive-thru volcano, mud baths and hiked the Gros Piton (advise you to be in VERY GOOD shape for this, but view is amazing). All of these things are mere minutes from the resort and avoid a lengthy ride in a car if you were elsewhere on island (windy roads are very easy to get car sick on). We also traveled up to Marigot Bay and ate a local lunch via water taxi, which was a quick trip and gave a wonderful view of the bay and island from sea. I highly suggest taking one, they pull up to the beach daily and their fees are very negotiable.

Although we have stayed elsewhere on island, and been to many other 5-star resorts in the Caribbean. This picturesque resort is one we will continue to visit. Amazing! Worth.every.penny.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with privacy. Some of the villas can overlook another's pool, etc.

My wife and I had a superb holiday here and can highly recommend. The views are breath taking with both Pitons at either end of the bay, white sand, blue & turquoise sea. The pool is very large and superbly fitted out with relaxing sun beds and next to the beach so moving between the two is not a problem. The service throughout was first class and although a little busy because of school holidays, standards did not drop.

Room Tip: We stayed in a Superior Luxury Sugar Mill Room, which are very close to the main house and have a la...

AMAZING, AMAZING, AMAZING! If you are thinking of booking this hotel just do it! The hotel's setting is breathtaking and needs to be seen to be appreciated. The Villa was incredible. Private pool, outdoor shower, indoor shower, free standing bath, four poster bed, living area, sun deck, a butler....... the stuff that dreams are made of! We ate at Bayside every morning for breakfast and some lunches and dinners, the food here was very good and the staff are so friendly. Fresh mango juice every morning while looking out at the Bay! Paradise. We also ate in the great room. The food here is perfection, the presentation was immaculate! This hotel has the little touches down to a fine art and we will, and cant wait to return! Heaven on Earth.

....we stayed in all 3 and, for us, Sugar Beach won hands down.

My wife loves Plantation style; white, luxurious linen, check vs coloured check;and white sand (imported or otherwise) vs dark, so Sugar Beach was always going to have a significant head start.

What kept it in front all the way was the attention to detail, the service, and the stunningly beautiful pool and grounds. oh and the food, which was brilliant too. We only ate in the formal restaurant once, but much preferred the casual beach dining for lunch and dinners. Breakfast on the terrace was equally fantastic.

The butler service of packing and unpacking was great and everyone was really personal and friendly. We were only there 4 days, but from early on, people remembered our names, and our orders/ preferences.

So, what about the budget bit? Well, normally I'm obsessed by getting the best room with views etc. This time, I wanted to try the best hotels in the area without the extra price, so we stayed in a Sugar Mill Room which was a lot less. Obviously it lacked the view, and extra space, but for us (sans enfants for a change) the 55 sq mtrs (600 ft) was perfect. It was also great being close to everything, no buggies for us, but we did walk all round the resort by choice a few times, and the views are absolutely stunning.

We also went room only - It just felt like poor value to go HB, let alone FB and I knew I would struggle to resist temptation of food/ wine if it was free! For us it worked out perfectly.

One final mention of the choice of hotels - if you want a more authentic St Lucia experience. then this is probably not it, but we got what we wanted and absolutely loved it!

Hmmmmm, can't wait to go back.

Room Tip: 1/ Sugar Mill rooms are great! 2/ If you chose a Hillside room, be aware that some have obscured v...
