The original three walled hotel, who was it that said, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery? Another, wizard of oz type hotel, copied Ladera's rooms but the feeling invoked is completely different. Wife and I entered the property and walked to the bar only to be stunned upon entrance by view of the Petit Piton looming like a mythical God in front of us- immediately bringing us into a state of humbleness and awe. When we got to our room, with the canopied bed, the small dip pool bordering the landscape of the natural fourth wall, the tiled bathroom with the cool lizard motif and the conch shell sink, it was like we were in a dream state. Awaiting us was a bottle of champagne and an actual handwritten note by the GM, Waddy, congratulating us on our recent marriage. From our arrival at reception and the warmth generated by the entire staff, to the GM's personal and genuinely heartfelt welcome and cocktail party, we felt like we were the most important people on earth.

The food in their restaurant is the best on the island and we were told that all over the island when we explored its beauty. We even indulged in amazing massages in the spa there. I fell asleep, my wife was like in a drugged state when she came out of the room.

We spent our days lounging in our own room, (we really didn't need to leave at all but felt we should explore the island) tanning by the pool, trips to the beach, the town, the waterfalls, the volcano (so cool you actually drive into the crater!) and ziplined our way through the rainforest tree tops. Our only regret was after we saw their new wedding pavilion with a view of the Pitons and Caribbean and awesome mosaic tiles. Is renewing vows after 3 months too soon?

Ladera is the only place for anyone to consider for a vacation. Seriously. It's Nirvana.

My husband and I spent 4 nights in an even more expensive resort in Antigua prior to coming to Ladera, and we were worried that nothing would compare to that experience. Within the first night at Ladera though, we were both gushing at how amazing everything was---the room (we were upgraded from a Hilltop Dream Suite to a 2BR Villa), the view, the food, and the friendliness of all the staff.

The room was the most amazing part of the whole experience. You will not find typical decor such as granite countertops and jetted tubs here, but instead hand carved wood, natural stone, and unique tile designs. It feels as if the decor is truly inspired by the surroundings, instead of catering to the expectations of the visitor. Our room (Villa E) was so enormous, with two full bedrooms, two bathrooms, a four foot deep pool that ran the entire length of our room with a bridge over it. We didn't really need a room this large, but it was one of many things that made us feel special on our honeymoon. We watched every single sunset from our deck while enjoying champagne or Piton beer from the mini-fridge. You definitely never get tired of the view, and as my husband said, why would you ever go anywhere else on St. Lucia now that you know this spectacular resort and view is right here?

We went on several excursions planned by the resort: Gros Piton hike, whale watching tour, and the "Soufriere experience" with stops at the volcano, botanical gardens, and two waterfalls. The coordination of this excursions was done very well by the resort, and we always felt that we were in good hands while on tour. I highly recommend the Gros Piton hike, but it is not easy! We went to Jalousie beach twice and loved the setting between the Pitons. The water there is crystal clear, and perfect for swimming and snorkeling. We were able to get a grass hut each time and ordered drinks from the bar there.

I've seen people complain about the food on tripadvisor, but we both loved every single meal. We had the all inclusive package, which I would recommend, as I think it would be more expensive to pay for dinner off package. They even included snacks or a picnic lunch if you were on an excursion, which included their amazing freshly made sweet potato and plantain chips. Dinners were all excellent, and our waiter would make an effort to find us a glass of wine we would enjoy even if it wasn't the "house wine".
The entire staff at Ladera was so friendly and accomodating. This was another big difference we noticed from the other resort we had been at. Even just having the bellman take us on a "tour" of our room when we checked in and explaining where everything was....it really was a giant room with lots of light swiches and such, so this really was helpful.

There were only a couple "negatives" we could think of during and after our trip. There was a strange smell that would sometimes come from the master bedroom sink area, but it was only in that spot, and since it is made of stone and a giant conch shell, we passed it off as a "natural" smell. Also when we would hang out on the deck chairs on the edge of the room, we could sometimes hear the people to the left of us if they were outside also---but since there is no fourth wall, this wasn't too alarming.

I was very nervous about how well we would sleep, would birds/frogs/bugs bother us, but neither of us had difficulty falling asleep at all. I also don't think we really even needed the mosquito netting, since I never noticed any bugs other than a couple moths. The geckos that come into your room and crawl on the wall are quite nervous around people, so they really keep their distance.

Having stayed in the north of the island for a week, we arrived at Ladera to get married at the beginning of November and we both agreed it was the most amazing place we had ever stayed at. We had a Hilltop Dream Suite which was beautiful - huge living area, huge bedroom and our own pool with an increadible open view. Pictures don't actually do justice to the views from this resort. Yes, you have to kind of get used to the 'open-ness' of the room, and the fact that, in the evening, insects - and occasionally a moth the size of a small bird - are attracted by the lights. But nothing detracts from the beauty and awe of the experience, in our opinion. The food was also incredible - hailed as one of the best restaurants in the Caribbean, we were almost counting the minutes between breakfast , lunch and dinner!

As for our wedding, it was simply perfect . The staff (Caroline especially) put everything in to making it a really special day. Because this is quite an intimate resort where weddings aren't going on the whole time, we were made to feel particularly special - not part of a conveyer belt system at all. The Executive Chef, Orlando Satchell spoke to us in advance before putting together a personalised wedding dinner menu for us which was absolutely delicious. Orlando was very visible and friendly - coming out after every mealtime to say hello to guests - and a great chef!

We simply loved our time at Ladera and will definitely go back - hopefully for our 1-year wedding anniversary if I can convince my husband!

My husband and I went to Ladera on our honeymoon and were blown away with the amenities and level of service we recieved at Ladera. We were somewhat hesitant because of the missing wall but the view was INCREDIBLE and the rooms were amazing. They kept things incredibly clean given the fact that the rooms are open to the elements and the staff will bend over backwards for you if needed. I can not say enough good things about this hotel and my husband and I will return there as soon as we can. I have never been more relaxed or pampered and they far exceeded my expectations. The food at the restaraunt is amazing and we couldn't wait to try something new each night. You will not regret your stay here!!!

While not saying, we always visit the Ladera when on the Island for lunch or a sunset cocktail. Today's lunch was yet another amazing feast. The staff are so friendly and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. They always welcome us and make us comfortable with minimum fuss, unlike their neighbours Jalousie. The view between the pitons is stunning and the volcano and waterfall are round the corner. If you visit St Lucai this is a must visit!

I have read the other comments about bugs, etc., but as a regular on the Island you are kidding yourself if you think tropical islands do not come with bugs whever you go. Good repellant is sold all over the island, though staying on the east coast, with the Atlantic breeze, is best for those really concerned about getting a few bits.
