“An excellent resort”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 March 2014

We have just had two weeks here and we have thoroughly enjoyed it! We had an ocean view villa with stunning views of the piton and the bay. It was so peaceful. Villa was very comfortable with good airconditioning, comfortable king size bed and tea ,coffee provided as complimentary. The plunge pool was lovely and given how warm it was a necessity. The staff at the resort where great, nothing was too much trouble and all were friendly. It is certainly somewhere we would go back to as it was also well positioned for exploring the southern part of the island. The only negative and it is small is that the decor and fittings are starting to look a little tired but we understood that they had started to renovate the villas so it would be interesting to see how this turns out. The Mango Tree restaurant is a real plus and we ate the majority of our meals there due to its quality.

Room Tip: We had Manchineel

Jacey,

Thanks for the brilliant review. We are working towards excellence in all areas of the resort, from the villas to the Amais Spa to the Mango Tree Restaurant. We have a new Executive Chef who is quite amazing. So I hope you get a chance to make it back here to sample some of the creative cuisine whilst gazing at the Pitons!

Cheers.

It's very hard to put our stay into words. But if you don't read any other part of my review, take away at least this: this resort is more beautiful than any of the other resorts I visited while in Saint Lucia- it tops Jade Mountain, Hotel Chocolat, and Anse Chastanet. And it was way cheaper! Stonefield is top notch value!

The resort is very centrally located. It is at most a 10 minute drive from anything you could possibly want to do in Soufriere. On that note, rent a car! The grounds are very beautiful, and views of the ocean and pitons are to die for.

Our villa, Flamboyant, was what dreams are made of. It had stunning views that could captivate you for days, a large pool overlooking the ocean, a gorgeous living room and kitchen, an outdoor shower with an overabundance of hot water, and a spacious bedroom. The structural and decor style was very local, organic, and colorful. It blended in with the gorgeous scenery and did not look like some obnoxious American high-end luxury villa forced onto the land.

Please be aware that there is no TV here, and the wifi can be shoddy in the villa. However, you don't really notice it since the villa is so beautiful.

The flamboyant villa also "came with" two host kitties that would hang out with us all day. They were super friendly and adorable. It was nice to have some extra company while lounging at the pool and hanging at the hammock. Feed them and they will love you ;)

Stonefield was really a dream come true and I'm so happy I bought into the groupon to come stay here. The value was incredible and I can't wait to come back. The service was great, the food was excellent, and the grounds were idyllic. Don't stay anywhere else when you come to Soufriere or you will regret it!

Room Tip: Flamboyant all the way. This room had absolutely incredible views (probably the best in the resort...

This is the perfect place to stay if you're looking to relax and unwind with your significant other. The property is comprised of 17 private villas, each with a private pool and outdoor shower. There is NO tv, but trust me you won't miss it. The resort is located on the southern part of the island and boasts beautiful views of Petite Piton. We stayed 4 nights in the Raintree villa, an oceanview studio with a small kitchenette, queen bed and private plunge pool. Although, this villa is very nice, we were not happy with the limited amount of Sun that shined on our deck and by our pool. Our last three nights we upgraded to the Flamboyant villa and all I can is WOW! Flamboyant has a full kitchen, living room, king sized bedroom, full pool, private sun deck with breathtaking views of Petite Piton and the horizon. My favorite thing to do was kick back with a drink abs watch the sun set from our hammock each night. (Definitely stop at duty free before heading into St. Lucia or ask your driver to stop in town during your transfer to the hotel).

One thing to note is this resort is not located on the beach. But a shuttle is available to Sugar beach and it is only about 5 minutes away. Beautiful beach!

A full breakfast is included in the rate. The food and staff at the on-site restaurant, Mango Tree will not disappoint. I highly recommend attending BBQ night.

This is the perfect place to relax and unwind from the hustle and bustle. We would definitely come back.

Sungal,

Happy you enjoyed the upgrade! I think you made a good point about "No TV". The views here are so excellent and the privacy so peaceful, it isn't very often that someone "misses" TV.

Look forward to seeing you on your return.

Last year, my wife and I stayed in a cottage at a similar hotel in Antigua. Stonefield was far superior. Although no modern amenities, other than wi-fi and good iPod docking stations, the accommodations were very good. As we did a late booking, we spent 6 nights in "Flamboyant" and 3 nights in "Frangipani". Both cottages had very private pools and spectacular views of the Caribbean and the Pitons from a delightful perch more than 1,000 above the water. Both were tastefully furnished and well-maintained. We actually preferred the smaller (no living/dining room and more limited cooking and refrigerator space) "Frangipani", which had a view from the bed through French doors and over the porch and pool. It was amply commodious and cozy. The staff was friendly, smart and readily available when needed. Spa and fitness room were well-appointed, very clean and offered all that was needed. An open-air restaurant offered three meals/day. Breakfast (included) offered a full menu and was efficiently provided under the auspices of Mr. Alcee, the dining room manager who could not have been friendlier or more helpful. As we had a car (which I would recommend through Cool Breezes) and are foodies, we only had one dinner at Stonefield. The ambience was wonderful, but the menu was somewhat limited and not the reason for a Stonefield visit. Overall, our Stonefield experience was "five star". And, if you are considering, be sure to coordinate with Sadia O'Neil in Reservations who is remarkably efficient and responsive.

Hi,

Thanks for the glowing review. By what you have written, it is clear that you absorbed the essence of Stonefield. Happy that you got to know Sadia. She is one of the big reasons Stonefield has a sparkling guest service record in the travel community.

Looking forward to seeing you on your next trip to St. Lucia!

My husband and I couldn't have asked for a better honeymoon. The staff at Stonefield are extraordinarily helpful and kind, the estate is breathtaking, and the villas are superb. This resort is literally in the jungle, with stunning views of the ocean and Petit Piton. I would not recommend staying here if you want an antiseptic experience of the natural beauty of St. Lucia. There are occasional bugs and wildlife (geckos, cats, insects chirping at night, etc,) that may appear every once in awhile -- it's all part of the charm of being in the heart of such a gorgeous country. In any case, you certainly aren't "roughing it" at Stonefield. My husband and I stayed in two different villas, Casaurina and Jacqaranda (I'm never sure if I spelled it correctly!) but both were gorgeous, with private pools, outdoor lounge space, outdoor showers, and mosquito-netted canopy beds.
The estate is in reasonable distance of town and walking distance to a zipline tour. Shuttles run daily to the beaches, and the staff are willing to set you up with mud baths, scuba diving, whale and dolphin watching, and hikes. We never had a boring day while we were there.
We ate at the resort almost every day and the food and drinks were really superb.

The best indicator of the service was toward the end: I had a medical emergency on the day we were scheduled to leave and the manager gave us extra free night at the villa while I recuperated. That sort of kindness deserves to go a long way. I truly can't speak highly enough about Stonefield.

Coming from the Northeast winter of 2014 and arriving here was something truly remarkable. From the southern airport to the resort took 40-50 min with an excellent driver named Dave. We turned off the main road and arrived at the reception porch where they welcomed us with a simple fresh non-alcoholic beverage made from a local fruit that was refreshing way to get in the spirit. The staff was helpful and friendly in this oasis of beautiful views, perfect weather and complete relaxation by design. Having just flown in from NYC the tranquility was almost a shocking. The rooms have no TV's to reinforce the notion of relaxation. The Wifi worked well to stay obligatorily connected and the rooms had iPod players for music. Our bungalows had a private perfectly maintained pool (someone came every day to clean). The view from the porch was intoxicating. You could move from lounge chairs, to rocking chairs to hammock to pool and repeat... The rooms were simple, spacious, included a small kitchen and well maintained. The shower was outside in a very private alcove. We left the doors opened at night with almost no bugs and perfect temperatures for sleeping.

The Mango Tree restaurant located on site was one of the best features of the place. Alcee is the manager and takes extraordinary care of all the details, helping even mentor the young servers. True St. Lucia culture and warmth. In front is a beautiful pool (if you get tired of the one in the bungalow) with chairs to lounge and always ready to bring a drink or beer. The breakfast that was included was varied and well prepared. The fresh fruit is both unusual and delicious. All the meals were terrific with the dining area having a perfect view of the Pitons and the harbor.

Sugar Beach, where the shuttle from the facility takes guests, is a beautiful beach embedded within one of St. Lucia's 5 star resorts. Though as a place to stay, I would rather staying at Stonefield Estates.

The one only shortcoming is that the walk into town is not quaint nor is the town itself. It is very much a town where locals are getting by and doing their best. We did walk into town one morning for the farmers market where we were able to purchase great produce for a reasonable price from vendors at the roadside.

Overall I would very very highly recommend Stonefield as a true get away for peace, quiet and relaxation.

Room Tip: The trip to and from the airport is long enough that having a good driver in a nice car is a real pl...

Dear Batch,

Thanks for the amazing review! I understand the feeling of leaving a "cold" place and coming to the tropical paradise of St. Lucia. If one can say this, it is like a most "wonderful shock". It's like moving between two worlds, isn't it?

Yes, our maintenance team works hard to make sure all the private pools are well-kept. The Mango Tree Restaurant, as you have outlined, is one of the great features of the resort. Our Executive Chef, Thierry, is always working diligently to create extraordinary fare that guests will remember well beyond their stay at Stonefield.

Thanks again for taking the time to review our resort!

Best Regards,

Stonefield Management

My boyfriend and I travelled to St. Lucia in December. We were looking for something beautiful and relaxing and different. Did not at all want an "all-inclusive", "resort-y" experience. Stonefield seemed just yet. Our one-bedroom villa overlooking the Pitons was gorgeous. Truly. We really felt like we were on our own. We liked also that it was owned and operated by local St. Lucians. The resort also seemed to have a good reputation among locals which is great. Everyone who worked there was lovely and helpful. We even met up with a couple people who worked there in town. The restaurant use some work. The prices for dinner were very expensive considering the quality of the food and the selection. One night we went to Boucan restaurant just down the road (found in another hotel) for an extremely memorable meal. The food was delicious and the prices exactly matched the quality. We only ate a few nights at Stonefield for this reason.

The resort is very, very quiet. So if that's what you are looking for, that's what you'll get.

All in all a beautiful place.

Elizabeth,

Stonefield is geared toward privacy and relaxation, so I'm happy you were able to find peace here and to leave us a top review.

Since your stay here, we have procured the services of one of the best Executive Chefs in the Caribbean. On your return stay, I would invite you to sample some of Thierry's creative, unique fare. I am sure you won't be disappointed!

Thanks again for the great review.
