First off St.Lucia is one of the most beautiful islands of the caribbean I have been to.....its hills, valleys, beaches, rain forest , waterfalls and so much more, its incredible how this little island is so diverse. After we decided to visit St.Lucia we researched this place for months trying to decide on a place to stay. We choose to stay at Stonefield...there were so many great things said that we had to check it out. The resort is most definately paradise. It is impossible to relate our experience to you.....its a have to visit to experience kind of place. The parrot, cocoa the little jack russel, the views of the pitons, the sunsets, choice of beaches, the villa was definately the highlight with its hammock, the private garden shower etc, etc. While we were there we checked out a few other hotels where we might have stayed, you know just to see for ourselves. First off castries is out completely...conjested and far from all you will want to see. Soufriere is definately the best part of St.Lucia and the place you really want to be. It is beatiful, with waterfalls, rainforest, snorkeling, scuba, the pitons, gardens. You want a romantic place definately choose soufriere. We checked out Ladera, The Hilton, and anschastanet.....they have their strengths but ultimately Stonefield wins it hands down. The charm of this place will sweep you off your feet. The pools in the villas are incredibly large, spacious rooms, excellent food and the staff which in most of the hotels were lovely. Hats off to the management and staff......can't wait to return.

My sister and I returned a week ago from a lovely 3 day stay at Stonefield Estate Villa Resort.

We had found Stonefield on the internet, and found that they had some of the best rates, most interesting rooms, and fantastic views of the pitons. When we arrived we were not disappointed.

Having had trouble making to the island because of issues with our plane we were a little worried if our transfer would be waiting at the airport. We had arranged this through Stonefield. No problems there - they tracked our flight and made sure they were ther to pick us up when we arrived. The taxi ride really is an hour and a half, through very wild, tropical landscape - a distance of only 26 miles. Some of the most beautiful, wild places I've ever seen. ($80 for the transfer)

We had also been a little concerned that there might be no one there to meet us given our late arrival (1:30am). However the night watchman was right there waiting for our arrival and wisked us off to our villa.

Knowing that we'd be arriving late (although we had no idea just how late we would end up arriving!) we arranged through Stonefield to have some meat, cheese, bottled water and bread stocked in our fridge for our arrival. As soon as we'd checked the place out we sat down for a lovely midnight snack (our dinner) serenaded by a chorus of tree frogs.

Then we slipped into bed, a lovely high king bed, lovely hand-carved four-poster bed encased by mosquito-netting. Very simple decor. High timbered ceilings with fan. Small kitchen area. The windows are thickly shuttered and do have screens to keep out thelittle buggies.

Nicely private. High fences in the right spots let themselves to the ultimate privacy; leaving open the view of ocean and Petit Piton.

Housekeeping staff were exceedingly efficient and descreet. We never saw them. Office staff friendly and helpfull. Highly recommend utilizing shuttle service to the Jalousie Hilton. Although close, I wold not recommend waling there unless you're in the mood for a good hike.

The mango Tree Restaurant. Great smells constantly waft down the hill. Everything we had there was lovely. Staff very friendly and efficient. Great, great view! Live music on Saturday night - very nice. The catch of the day was wonderful. Don't forget your coupons for free rum punches - it is very refreshing! Also, try the Cocoa Tea. A unique experience if you've never had it. Cocoa grated into boiling water, mixed with spices and served hot. Tates like a cup of chocolate. Yum!!
The atmosphere at the restaurant is nice, and the trees are close enough to hear the tree frogs in the evening. If you're lucky you'll catch a glimpse of small lizards chasing moths. And during the day birds flit through the dining room. I tried to capture a hummingbird-visitor on film, but wasn't fast enough.

Stonefield Estate Villa is not for everyone. Make sure you do your homework first. If you must have phone, tv, room service and airconditioning you may not like it here.

My sister and I agree that this was the best place we've ever stayed. We really didn't want to leave. The simple decor is lovely and elegant. The staff is great, and you just cannot beat the view. This is our Room with a View.

We can't thank Stonefield Estates enough for providing the most beautiful "no hassle" wedding! Everything was taken care of without the anxiety that can come with all the preparations.

Without having met anyone there previous to our stay, the staff seemed to anticipate our every need. We didn't have a care in the world the entire week!

The view is beyond compare and the people treat you better than family! Thank you Ali and your beautiful and very gracious wife for an experience we will never forget.

We would recommend Stonefield Estates without reservation to anyone and are certain we will return again!

We apologize for not having sent this sooner, but time got away from us when we returned to the "real world"!

Stonefield Estates is truly the Garden of Eden!

Most sincerely,

Janet & Dennis Stiver

We were only able to stay at the Stonefield for 3 nights, but we completely enjoyed that time. It was the quiet and scenic location we had been looking for. The staff had excellent attitudes and the shuttle to Jalousie beach was always on time. There are sufficient things to do and see in the neighborhood. I would recommend it to anyone seeking some peace and a fantastic view but still wanting some availability to recreation.

We went to St. Lucia for our honeymoon and stayed at Stonefield for the entire time.

About Stonefield - Excellent. On arrival they upgraded us to a nicer villa without us having even asked. The place is gorgeous, clean, and relaxing. Loved the garden showers! Would definitely stay there again. The restaurant is mediocre and pricey.

About Soufriere/St. Lucia - St. Lucia is a beautiful island with great people who are geniunely nice. Unfortunately the island relies on tourism. So their is no escaping the tourist trap. Taxi rides, dinners, excursions, beach chairs, and basically doing anything other than staying in your villa is absolutely overpriced. Stonefield is in on it, but so is everyone. I Don't like that the island regulates that 10% service be included in the prices of all your costs and then you have to trust that this gets to the people you want to tip.

We loved our honeymoon. We had a relaxing and luxurious time. But we're young and we felt a little trapped - not to many places to go and we always felt that it was costing way more than it was worth.

First, before I start, please make sure that St. Lucia is where you want to be. If it is, Stonefield is great. Getting back to my last point, its a third world country with a lot of poverty. It is hard to drive here as the roads are in terrible shape. I lived in Africa, and at least we had big Landrovers. Here the jeeps are small. It took us about 2 1/2 hours to get to Castries at the other end of the Island ( I think its a 30 mile drive) and there are maybe 4 road signs on the whole island so its easy to get lost even on the main roads which can start as asphalt but turn into dirt or rocky road in the blink of an eye. Castries, is nothing great to see and the duty-free shopping is some of the worst I have ever visited in the Islands. So in St. Lucia be prepared to be isolated and not really have many easy touristy options. If you like isolation and lush beauty who have it here. We ventured out with our rented jeep and visted the volcano and rain forest. So if quiet and scuba is your bag, by all means Stonefield is your place, only minutes per shuttle ride to the neighboring Hilton and beach where the dive facilities are good. Not many divers during the week we were there though. I was the only diver on three of the dives. OK, lets talk about the Stonefield:

When we arrived, there were only two hand towels in the bathroon and a dirty one under the vanity. As there are no phones, we had to walk back up the short hill to the reception desk, and they brought them out for us. The rooms are nice, open and spacious. And the bed, although hard, is very comfortable. There is a ceiling fan but no air conditioning in the rooms, but it was never too hot to sleep. We had a luxury villa with a small pool. The pool was extremely clean, and well-maintained during our stay. There were banana, plantain and papaya trees around the pool. What a truly great view over the green lush vegetation down to the blue sea below. Really spectacular. There is a table on the terrace and in the room to sit at. They supply a pretty good mixer for drinks, although ice was hard to come by, a small fridge, and a coffee machine. You had to buy your own coffee in town. There were mosquitoes and noseeums at night, which did get under the net and bite. Not as bad though as the bugs at the beaches at the Hilton and Anse ‘Jolousie’, where the bugs were under the shade during the day. We had no problem with bugs at Stonefield during the day.

One afternoon, a threesome arrived at the villa next to ours. As the villas are very close together, you can hear others speak. These people turned up the reggae a bit too loud, and I’m no prude, but it bothered me that they had loud sex (like two seals) in the pool for all to hear. As I really couldn’t relax under those conditions of reggae and seals, I went to the reception and complained. I don’t know what the manager said to them, but he must have made them an offer they couldn’t refuse because we didn’t hear a peep from them thereafter, except for occasional music, at reasonable hours, but turned down to an ignorable level.

I thoroughly enjoyed the food at the restaurant and the chef is great. I especially liked the fish soup for $8.00 and root vegetable appetizer for $7.00. Overall, the food is excellent, but overpriced. Hard to believe that a Caribbean lobster would cost $34 in such a casual environment. The view is also really really great from the restaurant To digress a bit, the food generally in St. Lucia was a bit, sometimes exceedingly over priced. We ate at Camillas in Soufriere, the town close to Stonefield one day for lunch. This is supposed to be a local joint. However, we were the only ones there from 11:30 to 2:00. With one beer, the bill came to $65. That’s expensive when you feed on local fair like conch and flying fish. But, on the other hand, the conch was the best I have ever eaten in my life. The Humingbird, another hotel/restuarant in town is cool, but again, $8.00 for a small fish sandwich.

Taxis are also very expensive. A 3 minute ride to the nearby Ladara hotel costs $10-20 without tip. A 20 minute ride gets you $20-40. By the way, the view from Ladara is great so have a drink there, the food, although beautifully presented was tasteless.

Everyone at Stonefield is nice and always willing to please. One more thing. What I liked about Stonefield is that there are only 16 villas so you never get inundated by groups of tourists like you would at the Hilton or other large hotels, and with the exception of the incident with the seals, it is wonderful relaxing place to stay.

After lots of research, we choose this location to get married in April 2004. We arrived at the Airport and the hotel driver was kind enough to stop at the local grocery and help us shop a little since we were staying for 10 days. Then we drove what seemed like forever on these incredibly bumpy roads, through the small town of Soufriere and finally to our villa at Stonefield. We were anticipating a let down as everything in planning for our wedding had gone way too easy! Communication with Shanna and Francesca at the hotel was perfect (Shanna is the wedding coordinator). The website was so good that you almost thought everything had been touched up in some form or fashion! Here is the GRET NEWS.. this place was better than you can anticipate. We stayed in the Plantation house, 3 bedrooms, three bathrooms, formal dining room that seats 10 easily over looking the bay and the pool, private full size swimming pool, fully equipped kitchen (even a blender!), flowers and mangos everywhere, pet lizards by the pool, huge TV (never had time to use it), stereo system, VCR, 5 disk CD changer, and NO PHONE which was just perfect!

They have a shuttle to the beach as it is easy to walk DOWN to the local beach but the walk back could hurt you! It is very steep terrain and though we did not use the public beach, we heard it was not very clean. The shuttle takes you to the Hilton where you can access their beach and have use of all the snorkeling equipment for the wonderful coral garden at the bottom of the Petit Piton Mountain, which separates Stonefield from the Hilton. You can purchase food at the Hilton but you must pay cash (or credit card).

The Mango Tree was good and on most nights had entertainment. They will try to accommodate you for whatever your needs are. The service was relatively slow but hey, you are on the most beautiful island with the most incredible views, what’s the hurry anyway? It helps you get on island time.

Make the short trip to the pricey but awesome restaurant at the Ladera Resort for sunset. It is spectacular and the food and drinks are good too.

Please remember, there is no air conditioning and the accommodations only have plantation shutters. There are lizards (never saw any in the bedroom), bugs and birds would fly through the kitchen and living room. We made the mistake of leaving some food items on the counter and thought they would be taken away by all the small ants that attacked it! We learned that EVERY food item must be put in the refrigerator or in the oven for safekeeping.

We loved this place and have plans to return there SOON! It was the most relaxing vacation in that you can do tons of sight seeing or absolutely nothing at all but the pool or beach and you don’t feel like you missed out!

Highly recommended, highly missed!!!
