“Paradise Found”
Reviewed 17 January 2005

We stayed at Stonefield in early December 2004 and it was absolutely paradise. We had a one bed villa without a pool (Jacaranda) with the most fantastic views over Petite Piton from the large verandah and a set of private steps to the pool and restaurant at the back. I could not have been more pleased with the place. The service was great, very friendly and relaxed and I was very impressed with the range and standard of the food at the Mango tree restaurant. Our pre-arrival dealings with the hotel went very well, the hotel organised a pick from the airport and having requested a villa with the best view (in that category) I was delighted that the cab driver commented on arrival that he thought Jacaranda was one of the best located. I would highly recommend Stonefield Estate if splendid isolation is what you are after and the one bed villas without a pool are an absolute bargain (we had the main pool to ourselves the whole stay anyway) when you consider the cost of some of the other hotels in the area. After a week we moved up to a four star all inclusive resort in the north of the island to attend a friends wedding and after counting up how much we'd spent at Stonefield, it still came to less per-night than the all inclusive. If all-inc/large resorts are your thing then Stonefield may not cut it, but if I were to return to St Lucia, I would not consider staying anywhere other than Stonefield, its a real caribbean gem.

We decided to stay at this resort based on all the fabulous reviews, however we had a group of indivduals staying in the next villa (only 10 yards away) who should have been in Fort Lauderdale during spring break. They drank excessively and were very loud as they sat on their balcony until very late in the evening. They also took the cd player out on the balcony and played the music very loud. They are no windows or any air conditioning in any of the villas and therefore the noise really does travel. It sounded like they were in the very next room. Maybe if we had a televison in our villa we would have been able to drown them out but the villas have no such luxury. They kept us up for 3 of the 6 nights of our vacation. We had complained to management the very first night and apparently they had then been told to keep the noise down but how can you control people who drink excessively. Management was unable to control this group of people so we decided to relocate to the Hilton that was close by. The resort is very nice however you have no control on who will be staying in the next villa and therefore could get the same type of loud people staying in the next villa. It was unfortunate for us that this had happened - we travel quite often to the islands on a regular basis such as Sandy Lane, Ocean Club and Atantis and have yet to come across this problem. I would hate to see a couple expecting to come to a relaxing quiet resort and experience this same problem. They claim this is a family resort as well as a couples resort but fail to have a childrens menu. Be prepared to spend 20-30.00 US on your childrens entree's. Our son was eight years old and complained that the food was too "grown up food" very spicey and exotic. We had a much better time at the Hilton - more relaxing, quiet and safer.

At Stonefield Estate Villa Resort we try to ensure that everyone enjoys their vacation as much as the next. These clients, who were very nice people, did complain about some noise the first night they were here. After speaking to all guests around this "noisy" villa everyone agreed that there was some noise for about an hour but that was it. I did speak to the three couples, who were a little perplexed about my request, but humbly said they would be quiet. It was their first night and they were ecstatic about seeing each other and being in such a paradise. They too were very nice. WARNING: WHEN YOU VISIT STONEFIELD IT MAY BE DIFFICULT TO CONTAIN YOURSELF!!! The entire time our "noisy" clients were here, no one complained, not even after being asked. I was never told about anyone bringing the stereo out on the deck which is allowed as long as you do not disturb anyone.

On the 1st of January at about 10:00am one of our “noisy” clients did shout “HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE”. It was very loud!! I was at the restaurant and everyone who was there laughed and chuckled with responses of Happy New Year to you too. I prayed no one was still sleeping at the time. Hey, what can you do. Luckily no one complained. I knew our clients would not have appreciated this kind gesture and it was then that they checked out on their last night. To my friends from Toronto, my sincere apologies for any inconvenience caused while being here. It was a pleasure to have you with us. Also thank you for still mentioning that this is a nice resort.

Note: Stonefield does reserve the right to remove the cd player from your villa due to excess noise levels after a warning is issued. In 6 years I have only had to speak to one couple who complied immediately.

My sister, nieces and I loved Stonefield. The staff were so friendly and helpful. The setting is gorgeous - the best views on the whole island, bar none. We stayed at the Coralita and really enjoyed it - the views and its location. The Mango Tree restaurant is great - either plan to eat there all the time or take the shuttle to Soufriere to get food to cook - although the local grocery is limiting in veggies and meats. I wouldn't recommend driving unless you've got the chutzpah - the roads are narrow, mountainous and with hairpin turns. The Stonefield can shuttle you to many areas and the local tourist programs will come and pick you up at Stonefield.

Stonefield....Well I feel like perhaps I should say something negative, that way no one will go to this paradise and it will be left all to myself. This place definately went above my expectations. The pictures on the websie; if you think they are wonderful they do not do justice to this place. The scenery is incredible....you cannot imagine it. Every thing i read on the site was exactly what was offered and more. The villa we stayed in was called Frangipani, it was so perfect. The garden shower and hammock in our large balcony was the high light of our stay with humming birds feeding off bannanas while we showered. The estate has remained in its natural state so you feel like it is all untouched. The staff were really accomodating attending to our every need. They even sewed our cloths without having to be asked....at no charge. I think what I remember most is stonefields historical feel. The old lime mill, the pre-columbian rock carvings on the nature trail, the old parrot that greets you every time you past by and the fact that it is family owned. They really take pride in ensuring that you were taken care of. Don't be surprised when you see Aly Brown the manager personally delivering you a message or checking your pool; its a special place. The mango Tree restaurant....very nice. The cooks are not imported from Austrailia, England or New Zealand. They are from the villages around St.Lucia and cook french and local food. Breakfast was wonderful with St.Lucian made coffee, stonefield made jams and I could really go on. Dinners...we ate at the surrounding resorts and frankly the food was better at Mango Tree. It may be because there are only 16 villas so they cook for a few and not 100 rooms. You can taste the quality in the cooking. We visited the rain forest and stonefield had a lot more birds. It was disappointing but reminded us of what a special place we were at. The water fall at the rain forest was wonderful but be prepared for the 1 million steps back. Soufriere was a lovely town but is somewhat depressed. A few beggers but all harmless. We were on a package which included massages which were very good. Overall this place is definately at the top of my list. I recommend it to everyone.

First off St.Lucia is one of the most beautiful islands of the caribbean I have been to.....its hills, valleys, beaches, rain forest , waterfalls and so much more, its incredible how this little island is so diverse. After we decided to visit St.Lucia we researched this place for months trying to decide on a place to stay. We choose to stay at Stonefield...there were so many great things said that we had to check it out. The resort is most definately paradise. It is impossible to relate our experience to you.....its a have to visit to experience kind of place. The parrot, cocoa the little jack russel, the views of the pitons, the sunsets, choice of beaches, the villa was definately the highlight with its hammock, the private garden shower etc, etc. While we were there we checked out a few other hotels where we might have stayed, you know just to see for ourselves. First off castries is out completely...conjested and far from all you will want to see. Soufriere is definately the best part of St.Lucia and the place you really want to be. It is beatiful, with waterfalls, rainforest, snorkeling, scuba, the pitons, gardens. You want a romantic place definately choose soufriere. We checked out Ladera, The Hilton, and anschastanet.....they have their strengths but ultimately Stonefield wins it hands down. The charm of this place will sweep you off your feet. The pools in the villas are incredibly large, spacious rooms, excellent food and the staff which in most of the hotels were lovely. Hats off to the management and staff......can't wait to return.

My sister and I returned a week ago from a lovely 3 day stay at Stonefield Estate Villa Resort.

We had found Stonefield on the internet, and found that they had some of the best rates, most interesting rooms, and fantastic views of the pitons. When we arrived we were not disappointed.

Having had trouble making to the island because of issues with our plane we were a little worried if our transfer would be waiting at the airport. We had arranged this through Stonefield. No problems there - they tracked our flight and made sure they were ther to pick us up when we arrived. The taxi ride really is an hour and a half, through very wild, tropical landscape - a distance of only 26 miles. Some of the most beautiful, wild places I've ever seen. ($80 for the transfer)

We had also been a little concerned that there might be no one there to meet us given our late arrival (1:30am). However the night watchman was right there waiting for our arrival and wisked us off to our villa.

Knowing that we'd be arriving late (although we had no idea just how late we would end up arriving!) we arranged through Stonefield to have some meat, cheese, bottled water and bread stocked in our fridge for our arrival. As soon as we'd checked the place out we sat down for a lovely midnight snack (our dinner) serenaded by a chorus of tree frogs.

Then we slipped into bed, a lovely high king bed, lovely hand-carved four-poster bed encased by mosquito-netting. Very simple decor. High timbered ceilings with fan. Small kitchen area. The windows are thickly shuttered and do have screens to keep out thelittle buggies.

Nicely private. High fences in the right spots let themselves to the ultimate privacy; leaving open the view of ocean and Petit Piton.

Housekeeping staff were exceedingly efficient and descreet. We never saw them. Office staff friendly and helpfull. Highly recommend utilizing shuttle service to the Jalousie Hilton. Although close, I wold not recommend waling there unless you're in the mood for a good hike.

The mango Tree Restaurant. Great smells constantly waft down the hill. Everything we had there was lovely. Staff very friendly and efficient. Great, great view! Live music on Saturday night - very nice. The catch of the day was wonderful. Don't forget your coupons for free rum punches - it is very refreshing! Also, try the Cocoa Tea. A unique experience if you've never had it. Cocoa grated into boiling water, mixed with spices and served hot. Tates like a cup of chocolate. Yum!!
The atmosphere at the restaurant is nice, and the trees are close enough to hear the tree frogs in the evening. If you're lucky you'll catch a glimpse of small lizards chasing moths. And during the day birds flit through the dining room. I tried to capture a hummingbird-visitor on film, but wasn't fast enough.

Stonefield Estate Villa is not for everyone. Make sure you do your homework first. If you must have phone, tv, room service and airconditioning you may not like it here.

My sister and I agree that this was the best place we've ever stayed. We really didn't want to leave. The simple decor is lovely and elegant. The staff is great, and you just cannot beat the view. This is our Room with a View.

We can't thank Stonefield Estates enough for providing the most beautiful "no hassle" wedding! Everything was taken care of without the anxiety that can come with all the preparations.

Without having met anyone there previous to our stay, the staff seemed to anticipate our every need. We didn't have a care in the world the entire week!

The view is beyond compare and the people treat you better than family! Thank you Ali and your beautiful and very gracious wife for an experience we will never forget.

We would recommend Stonefield Estates without reservation to anyone and are certain we will return again!

We apologize for not having sent this sooner, but time got away from us when we returned to the "real world"!

Stonefield Estates is truly the Garden of Eden!

Most sincerely,

Janet & Dennis Stiver
